Awful weather - typical Brits talk

It's only 210mph winds here...
We do have snow on them thar hills this morning though...
We didn't get to see the Standing Stones yesterday as both DH and I got a bit wobbly on the road thereHe's a very good driver, but has this issue with certain road conditions (when it looks like there's sheer drops for instance). I was still feeling on edge from the day before, so not a great combination. He's actually talking about having hypnotherapy or something to try and get over it, which I think is a very good idea, as his reactions definitely affect me too. We HAVE to do the same road tomorrow as that's the way to the ferry, so we might get to see the stones, but I'm certainly not looking forward to the drive
It's a shame, because we've both wanted to come to Harris for so long, but the roads have defeated us. We'll certainly never come back here
Anyway... the sitooterie is lovely, twopenny, as was your riverside one the other day, Dusty. Both a bit too open for me, but lovely spaces. Well done on winning the quiz and getting that rather splendid looking prize.
taff, that was an amazing apple - super shiny
Farway, hope the dodgy tum hasn't come back again.
The wrist sounds very sore, YBE. Good idea to have the chilled cloths around it, although not directly on the skin if the cloths are frozen. I think it's RICE, isn't it... rest, ice, compression and elevate. Get thee to the minor injuries unit if you need to.
Another Aurora glow last night - this was taken just after midnight. I didn't hang about because the wind was so strong and icy cold...

What a shame about roads PP, can't be helped, but it takes some of the pleasure out of your holiday I'd think.Next hols in East Angular then ?Looking very autumnal now, yellowing leaves and just soggy in general, but far better than Tampa right now, so a lot to be thankful forTum is more or less back to normal now, even feeling properly hungry. I hear a lot of folk have coughs & colds, so general getting on for winter malaise around.Only gardening is maybe pick last of outdoor toms as I get the wheelie bin ready for tomorrowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6

Another productive text error, or a cute way to suggest less extreme terrain? Not a bad day here. No sign of the 655mph winds predicted by the BBC. Indeed, it felt like the beginning of September as I carried on hedge reduction. One benefit of our late springs here, is a couple of weeks longer without much sign of autumn, compared with 2p's area. You win some etc...No one here has yet claimed to have registered a back garden chicken with DEFRA, but apparently, so many have, their website has crashed several times.
Quite a few of these chickens appear to have originated in Tesco (other supermarkets are available.) As I pointed out earlier, it's sad millions of game birds will go unregistered.
Here is a rubbish photo featuring 9 of them I took on last week's walk. I'm sure they would all love a sponsor, but none would come close enough for me to get even a first name.
I did say it was a rubbish photo! If you open it in a new window and enlarge, you might be able to spot all nine.

Indeed autumn is well and truely underway in this part of the world. So much so the ever reluctant Highways have sent out drain cleaners because there are so many leaves down. The colours are wonderful reds and golds but it's 6 weeks earlier than normal and quite sudden. But we've had a bit of sun between the black clouds and rain and my green tomatoes are taking on that colour before the orange so fingers crossed for some more sun and reasonably mild weather. No gardening today because of the dark and rain this morning so I did some batch/use up cooking ready for the day when I can get out there and start clearing.Pleased you're feeling better Farway. Best to stay away from crowds for a while until you toughen up some more. Then it's your trip to get reorganised.Darn about the wrist Bluey. I couldn't do with ice on my skin no matter what the reason. You're really stoic.Yes Poppy, we have a road that I won't travel, well I would if you could guarantee no one was coming the other way. In fact I was meant to look for a footpath from the top that I might hobble down because it's beautiful at the bottom.Neighbours massive building project is half done. Blocked a lump of sky from my window. Hopefully it will block some of the NorthEasterly wind too.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

What a beautiful autumnal pic, twopenny
Just popped on to say there's a big Aurora due tonight into tomorrow (weather conditions permitting - don't bother looking at the BBC weather forecast though)...
We're on the move again early tomorrow morning so probably won't get back on for a couple of days - wish me luck with that road tomorrow - I'm dreading it...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Good luck with that road Poppy. Hoping it won't be so bad now you know what it's about. Thanks for the heads up about the Aurora - but just after I'd posted about it being mild with some sunshine black clouds came over and it was dark before 6pm! Rain and a Northerly bitter wind and the temperatures dropped. Just solid cloud now

Temperature dropped to 4 or 5c overnight! Very wet, windows all covered in condensation and I haven't dared check the tomatoesI did nip out across the sodden wet grass to put a new fat block out for the birds who must need it.But this morning we have sun.The weekend starts here. Depending on what the weather does in this weird new climate I may even get some gardening done.Fingers crossed for you Poppy
Hope the sun is shining up there so it all looks lovely and not scarey. Give youself some hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows when you get to the other end.
Dusty, don't get carried away with the sunshine. Pace youself - as we are constantly being told.Farway hope you're feeling fine this morning. Lots of good stuff to eat to get yourself back on track. Yoghurt is good, especially with a drop of Vanilla and a spoonful of honey. Just like ice creamBluey, not sure what you're up to these days other than tech detox I'm thinking. Time to plant pots of bulbs to cheer up the spring.Morries full of dead plants with yellow stickers on them. Not that cheap either. A lot of packs of bulbs about but nothing inspirational and not cheap any more either.Christmas stuff has been out for ages, must be nearly time for Tete a Tete to appear on the shelves along with Easter Eggs!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Well, I had a go again last night. I may have caught the Aurora this time, though it's faint compared with Scottish sightings
:
The stars moved during the 1-minute exposure! Fortunately, no security light came on, nor did any car pass.I'm wishing you well with that road, pp.Hopefully you'll find easier journeys at your next location.
We seem to have somewhat better weather than you, 2p. It's surprising what a difference there is just 30 miles north or south of here. We've had a slight ground frost this morning. I'm hoping covering the courgettes with fleece will have saved them. They might go on for another week or two if it has. Mrs Dusty picked tomatoes again yesterday, and wrapped their frame in fleece as well. Some could continue well into November. She also made 12 double helpings of concentrated soup, so we now have a huge quantity of frozen tomatoes in one form or another. This is as far as I've gone with the laurels. I'm tempted to leave them for a while and press on with other tree/hedge work. I've already begun reducing a hornbeam hedge."Everything's just f.....ine!"6 -
Morning all. An actual short post this morning cos my router’s died so I’m on my phone on my data.Apart from that bit it’s a wholly OT post. I finally put a duvet in the cover last night - I had to, the BBC said it’d be -80 😆I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.8

Here's the hornbeam hedge 'before' picture, taken yesterday. Comparing this with 2p's lovely autumn photo, a few leaves have fallen, but most are still to turn. Maybe last night's frost will hasten things along.
