Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Still alive but tired & knackered, braved a cuppa this morning, and it was very welcome.I had planned to make a milky rice pud as a gentle return to solid food, but someone has stolen the rice.2P, ta, I do have bananas, though, so may try one later. Also noted Dusty nonmedical remarks, good idea, I was speaking with someone yesterday & apparently “everyone” , like me, has tummy bugs & a cough around here.I blame Morries 'cos that's the only crowded place I've been in the last weekSome wonderful photos today, I love the sitooterie, could spend hours thereAnd YBE cracker of the plough, just right capture, and the sunrise, I missed mine, still fast asleep.Pyracantha are mixed as your photos show, I only have a few berries, I'll try for a photo once fit enough to venture outside2P I have GW to watch later today, so will be pleased to see buddleias, I like them even with the seedsYoungBlueEyes said:Brandy Farway, a good gobful. There's a reason they used to say "purely for medicinal purposes". That was not legal advice etc. Fingers crossed it lifts for Tuesday
Have a good hol pp, hope the ferry is bearable. As someone who was desperate sicksea as a child I was always told to focus on the horizon, and eat ginger biscuitsWhen Larne/Stranraer was still going we'd often be on it. I'd get pushed up on deck and stood at the front of the ship no matter the weather because "you're not sugar, you'll not melt". #MoreStuffWotKidsTodayWouldNeverBelieve
Bon Voyage PP, and as one who has sailed steamed some of the seven seas, the reason to stand near the bow [front] is to avoid a face full of someone else's carrots & tomato skinsWisley is now looking a bit shaky, not only my troubles but companion has sore froat and cough, plus weather might be wet & windy. Decision day tomorrow. It's black & gloomy outside right now, but big rain is not expected.Only gardening is watch GW with buddleias, and stick a Covid up my noseEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens9 -
Managed 2 hours of chainsaw action before the big rain came.
That's plenty at my age. It's easy to get tired and careless.

The sitooterie is a bit public for my tastes, but the owner must like it that way, because they've cut back the trees so they can see the main street.Ah yes, carrot and tomatoes always seem to feature, even when one has not eaten them!I learned a similar thing on a train through Belgium, when one of our student number decided to jettison the awful lunch provided by our hosts. Fortunately, he hadn't consumed it, but the liquid part, a very gooey chocolate drink, caught me full in the face.
Briefly, the sun came out, and it looked like it was clearing up here. Foolishly, I believed the inebriates, went off to the other end of the land, and got soaked. The squirrels have definitely had our walnuts too.Never mind, here's a Comma butterfly spotted in yesterday's late sun. Apparently, they can be seen all through the year. It's to make up for the fact that no flowers, fungi or unusual fauna were spotted on Friday's walk. You'd think with all the different habitats we passed through, there would have been something unusual, and I'm sure there was, but we missed it.8 -
Fabulous photos! Love a butterfly and some like to be where they can say hello to neighours. I always have 2, one for when I'm feeling sociable and one for hiding awayAmazing to get the star formation between the clouds Bluey. I'm envious.I forgot the rememdy for sea sickness, may work for Farway. If not at least he won't care. It's the Canadian cruise suggestion - port and brandy mixed. I tried it once
But prefered the port and guinness that was lovely.
Well it was fine this morning despite the forcast, though nothing to write home about. From 11 the volume of rain increased and darn, wasn't it cold when the sun went down around 5! Guess we have to get used to it. But no gardening.Half a day tomorrow to do something - we won the quiz Saturday night(the old bats team) and I got to take home the swish prize so I have to go to TTennis tomorrow to share it. Shame......
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Hope you're in fine fettle for your garden !!!!!! Farway...does that mean Morries dead plant section will no loner be frequented? That's a fab photo ybe, the gap in the clouds was well spotted! And what a lovely sunrise...That's way too early for me [ even if I have to do it while the builders are here, I don't like it, getting up early that is]I liked the sitooerie but probably because needs must with some properties, or just nosey, which is also fine
and who knew there were so many bridge groups? I bet they have a secret handshake.
That's good about a sterile buddleia, I normally dislike them apart from the pom pom onesIt dried up over two days enough for me to mow the grass [ I wouldn't say lawn any more] and I made it tot eh allotment today. Spent two hours cutting back a walnut, an almost dead apple, a nut tree of some descrition a vine [ Farway, that ones for you] and some brambles, and raspberries..I also bagged up everything rubbish in the shed and prudly affixed my new lock to it. My sitting down camping chair is now firmly ensconced and I met three other people, one is a newbie like me, but he was tooled up with a rotavator and everything [ it lasted a little while before it went !!!!!!] and I got told good luck in dubious tones by another one...I didn't clear any of it, just piled it up in same type piles to decide what to do with it next time..I'm thinking a compost heap type thing in the middle so I can not trufge all the way to the bototm every time I want to chuck something somewhere...Then it started raining again...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8 -
Morning all. How you doing today Farway? Hopefully a bit better after your cuppa/s? Imagine someone stealing your rice! Swines. Get well soon to your companion too
@greenbee I asked thingy's dad last night about partridges. He said the thing about partridges is they're lazy s0ds and don't fly as much as people think. They often stroll about the place like nosy toddlers. So if you've a hedge round your garden get some chicken wire tucked in there so they can't just walk in and that'll cut your numbers by a good degree. There was also a bit of advice about air rifles (that was his first suggestion actually) but maybe that's for a pm if you'd like it?
Thanks for the kind words re my photos folksI just take absolutely shedloads of pics and choose the best ones. Definitely a case of practice makes perfect better. I did like the Plough one though, it's lucky I was outside and spotted it. I thought with the improvements they were making to the forum they might have enabled it to take sounds as well as images but sadly no. I've some great recordings of birds on my bird app thing. Mum and dad have got a Brambling, that was a new one on me.
Bluddy squirrels eating your walnuts Dusty, they've no shame. And what were you doing believing the inebriates?! That one's on youThat's a beautiful butterfly pic, you can see every colour in the sunshine. Lovely
Port and brandy mixed.. what's that called... I used to go drinking with a fellah and he drank that by the half pintHe was an animal. Woohoo for winning the quiz!
:clapping: What was your swish prize?
Have you taken to using bad language taff? There's a lot of exclamation marks in your postSunrise here isn't early, I took that photo just after 0700. I'm 2 hours in by then
How are your builders getting on? Sounds like you got some good prep work done at your unexpected allotment
Being wished good luck in dubious tones wouldn't be welcome though
OT cloudy and wet after all the over night rain. Humidity's dropping though and there's a bit of a breeze so the washer's earning it's keep. I think we've been lucky with the weather being mild and temperate but after tomorrow it can do as it pleases cos the boiler man's comingI don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.6 -
It sounds like your prize was edible 2p. Well done to the Old Bats, whatever it was.
I'guess some Bats do table tennis too, (makes sense!) hence no option but to share. Bet it was cake.
Well done for getting stuck-in with the allotment, taff. In future years, when we're all so happy about having not a lot, you will at least have a lottie!By then, our fields will be back to strip lynchets, and I'll be renting them out to the peasants in the barn conversions for extortionate sums, like 5 groats a month.
Bluey, my excuse for believing the inebriates yesterday, is they've had most things right for a few days....well, apart from the lack of sunshine on Friday. Yeah, I know, build up the population's confidence for a while, and then destroy it in an instant.I'm sure I've seen that recently somewhere else....can't quite put my finger on it.
With all the brilliant photos accumulating here, I'm thinking my policy of 'proper' camera may need a review. Phones are getting so good now. Last night, walking friend sent me a few pictures she'd taken last Friday ....and many were better than mine. For example, I didn't show any from our trip home along the edge of the moor; they were just too dull. Yet while I was prancing about, trying to get the right angle on this or that and dodge the flare from the sun, she shot these clouds through the car window:
Grrr!Hoping to hear Farway is on the way back to wellness this morning, with or without the port, brandy, and other medicinal products recommended mentioned recently.I'm off now to reduce our laurel hedge again..... while the sun shines here.7 -
YBE - no hedge, just post and rail fence and a fabulous view onto the marsh. And no, we’re not allowed to shoot them in the garden. As your friend says, they are lazy, so if the lazy keeper moved the release pens it wouldn’t be an issue.5
-
All different sorts of biscuits! That's some fancy prizeUsually we get post it notes and pens for which I'm grateful. I've all my life come second in everything so this is the second we've won for quiz, it would have been the 3rd if someone had listened to me grrrrrrr! And I'm now sought after for teams. They must be desperate or it could be the mental improvement of keeping up with you lotSunny this morning which is welcome and not cold but everything is sodden from heavy overnight rain and the clouds are gathering again as we speak so I don't want to be hoiking out finished veg plants and storing them in the garage wet.My little Maple tree from the supermarket is looking just grand having turned red. I have no idea if they eventually grow to full size or just stay small. But the colours are so good and the leaves stay on for ages so I'll get another the same next year if I see one.Managed to get 2 raspberries yesterday and some tomatoes are ripening which I'm picking early before they get snaffled. Bit of a difference from Taffs allotment..........central compost sounds a good idea. You could plant herbs round it or pollinating flowers and make a featureDusty I don't think it's the camera. You need to know when these things will happen and be ready. I have some smashing ones once I realised that sunny spells and cloud make great light effects on beaches and skies and then you have to nip out quick.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Morning folksDustyevsky said:Hoping to hear Farway is on the way back to wellness this morning, with or without the port, brandy, and other medicinal products recommended mentioned recently.I was not able to do a COVID test, the liquid capsules had evaporated, so nothing to swirl the pad in or drip on the sensor.
The kits I have are from original panic issues, so well out of date.
But checking symptoms I have had, and dismissed, over the last few weeks, leads me to think I did, or have, CovidHowever, the decision was made yesterday to cancel WisleyErring on the side of caution really, tum is still not 100% plus forecast weather is mixed
We'll book for later in the month, have to miss the next fortnight or so due to getting jabbed and allowing for after affects. Last jab left a lot of folk with aches for a few days.Wet night but bright & sunny right now, if it keeps bright I may just toddle out for fresh air, postie has put a neighbour's letter in my door, could be important because it's from France.Well done on the prize win 2P.Good cloud shot Dusty friend. I think some phones have AI assistance, but as 2P says, you have to be aware of what may occur ahead of time, I know here that when sunny at front [SW] & dark clouds with rain at back [NE] it often means rainbows. And 2P little maple tree doing as on the tin, great stuffMustn't forget Taff and all the hard work, the chap with a Rotavator may regret it if there was bindweed in thereWhat's the !!!! in your posts? Doesn't seem to blend, but MSE is quirky.I had my allotment compost heap to one side in the middle, for exactly the same reason as you. I left mine rough over the first winter, supposed to get frosts breaking down clods etc. It may have done, but also allowed couch grass to regrow. No gardening, watched GW and loved the gabions with succulents, wish I had space, they'd make a lovely wallEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
congratulations on the quiz win and very posh prizing! We do a twice yearly one at the village hall with the farmers...we won once, three years ago maybe, but we have steadily got stupider...You're heading in the opposite direction, I need to know your secrets
A compost heap feature?
well, I could do a keyhole garden I suppose, the herbs would definitely be easier to reach with no bending.
The exclamation makrs were for p o r n and p o o f...I didn't think the latter was used as a description anymore, it's just gay now isn't it?2 hours in by seven? I think I just fainted...I accidentally got up at six today and that was enough, I need a nap now. I think you'd have to upload the sound and then link to it but it's possible...Dusty, I read it as goats a month, I'm not sure which is worse..That's a lovely pic, such a big big sky [ why i like it here instead of Wales, the sky is always on your head where I'm from]
Glad you're better Farway, it's no fun feeling like dog poo..yeah, go to Wisley when the sun shines...I had a look and it's about an hour and fifty from me, we can scoot along in popemobiles together...one day maybeNot much bindweed luckily, I only found a little bit under the vine trying to dsiguise itsef.
Messaged the bloke who runs stuff about a dumpy bag for the stuff from the shed, he said he'd drop one off tomorrow so, first thing, let the tiler in, then take my car to be fixed at the garage, then I may stop off there before or after the tiler goes if it's fixed in time. I unearhted some treasures, like ground pegs, metal rods, many short bamboo sticks but there was an awful lot of dross. Sad really, the bloke who used to have it developed dementia and his wife is trying to keep up the plot next door with various people there pitching in. She gave up mine because two were too much to handle but the dubious tones neighbour the other side of her told me mine was kept beautifully before. Her current one does have some really good fuit trees on it, there are two pears, a massive apple tree[ that overhangs but it obviously quite ancient], a huge walnut..The dubious tone neighbour also made a very big point of telling me I had to mow the pathways...I can see me wanting to be violent at some point in the future...Mybae I should grow more 'herbs' to deal with thatNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi8
