Awful weather - typical Brits talk

I saw this very successful spider's web on the whirly this morning - I've made it black & white as it was difficult to make the bugs out in colour...
Just shows how many gnats and midges we get, but that must have been one heck of a sticky web'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Looks to me like the spider has caught a cat PP
Your new phone is clearly giving you a great deal of pleasure.6 -
Farway said:Managed to book an electric buggy at Wisley for next Tuesday
, so fingers crossed Hurricane Kirk remnants don't meet the jet stream. The long range is unsettled, maybe rain & sun, so who knows? As long as it's not persisting down, it'll be OK
As prelude to Wisley I went up to Morries, really just to see if my car is still in starting mode and has not reverted to sulking, yep, first turn of the key.Morries plant area is a sorry place now, just a few trays of small violas and some boxes of daff bulbs, but at least the Deli cheese person has returned to cutting sensibly priced portionsHope the relatively benign spell holds on for you, Farway, so you get all the way around Wisley this time.I offered a trip to Rosemoor to Mrs Dusty, but she's in hedge cutting mode and needs something more unusual to lure her away from “sorting it all before winter.” A trip to Spain or the Highlands & Islands may be beyond our reach, though!
I visit 3 Morries. The one on the coast still had some decent wee plants when I was there last week: gooseberries, redcurrants, and figs, plus the usual pansies and polyanthus etc. I haven't been back to the 'huge slabs of cheese' one. It's getting a wake-up call in the form of a Lidl, 200m away, but there again....Lidl for cheese?I tried for a photo last night/this morning pp, but son in law's car has something that glows in it and the security light was working overtime next door.I could see the Plough really well, even if eclipsed by the other light sources. Maybe there won't be any Partridges on Benbecula, as I see the locals have bought a large chunk of the island from a sporting syndicate.
No matter, the wildlife looks to be wonderful and average temperatures are usually OK until November, but I expect you know that!

Glad the birds are chowing down ybe, as long as they don't look like mutant conkers like pp's
[I honestly thought it was a conker!] not anywhere near the end yet, painting has to be done before lights go in otherwise painting round them is a ball ache.
pp, lovely trees though!that's a good idea to add mixed spice, i may steal that idea for the foota too. OMG, how many bugs?!! I do like ybe's suggestions for partridge misuse too, oo, what about a nice cherry sauce
and a very cool shield bug [ never stand on them, they'll stink the place out, or your shoes]Farway, good to see you've let them know in advance royalty is coming for their popemobiles [ mixing my metaphors there] That prairie panting is lovely, I may have to try something like that on my allotment don't you know... well, anything to take up some space. Apparently it's half plot, bloody good job too because if I had a full one it'd be ginormouse. Hooray for starting cars too. But I did get seduced by T&M onion sets and a few other things so I blame you for that too. Hope the weather's good for you next week. And I had to google benbecula, what were you doing there? was it military gubbins? can you tell us but then have to kill us?I've had clear views of the Big Saucepan Plough the last few nights too...but no photos.I've chucked some green toms in a bowl with some salt, I'm attempting italian pickled green toms, just something instead of chutney for a change. I didn't pick the apple.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi4 -
Hi all, lots of news. Love the photos and chucklesJust popping in to say I was listening to a podcast called Slice Bread today and the topic was Slugs and slug repellants so may be worth a listen. Finally we had a dry warm day and I got to mow and trim the lawn - along with gutter clearing and such. Supposed to be dry for 3 days so may get some garden clearing done! Though the big black clouds that hid the sun tonight don't seem to agree.I'm going to have to cut the tomatoes off. Seems the ones that were ripening have vanished. Bet it's the rats again. A Purple Sprouting is diseased and I have no idea what it is. This really has been a carp year like I've never had before and I'm sulking
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Have any of you a weird comment box this morning, or is it just me?2 -

That made me laugh, greenbee, I hadn't even noticed the (ornamental) pussycat in the background
Dusty, any chance of taking advantage of family being there so you and Mrs Dusty can have some time away, even just a couple of days?? The weather this coming week is looking pretty rubbish, but it is October in Scotland, so... wet weather clothes will be getting packed
taff, yes, a mutant conker!! It definitely has a spiky look about it
Don't sulk, twopenny, there's always next year. Glad you're getting a few dry days (fingers crossed).
We have rain here this morning, with more to come. I keep getting notifications about a potential BIG Aurora on Sunday evening/Monday early hours. Should be visible up and down the UK (except where I'm going to be) but obviously depends on weather conditions.
No weirdness for me, Dusty. I can click on the 'spoiler' thing, but I'm not going to...'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Thanks both. I will have to try a re-boot or something, then.
I can post, but I have a strange comment box at present
with all the control bits piled on top of each other!
EDIT: Hurrah!
Cleared my cookies. (ate 2!
) and fixed it. Yesterday's problem was the mouse. Easy enough to replace.
Sadly, no holiday for us pp. Mrs D will get a break soon, though, albeit only in the next county. 2p knows, that's not too shabby!
I might get a day out quite soon.....
Today looks good here, and even the coming week or so isn't looking too challenging, barring some strong winds tomorrow. We'll be much more relaxed when the hedges are done, or at least the ones that matter in the garden. Others will take all winter to sort out. Also, there's at least half a dozen trees to come down, which will be a help in winter 2026!
I must take some more photos. Today's is just some seeds I spotted on a pittosporum. They're very welcome, because rooting from cuttings is hard, but seed germinates well, if fresh.
Hurrah, for the happy-starting car, Farway! I rang about the van yesterday. The man on the other end sounded rather sheepish: "Ah, yes, we have not progressed your repair as quickly as we'd hoped..." In other words, "It's in the top yard, and we forgot about it!
EDIT: Why are my smilies oval?

I was going to ask if your smilies had been having the Ozempic jags, as they're looking very skinny
