In this situation, you have the right to dam or divert the watercourse but you still must not affect the quality or quantity of the flow of water downstream. You must maintain the natural flow of a watercourse and you may remove trees or shrubs, whether damaged or not, but only if they might cause flooding downstream. Solicitors.Or does this help DustyI'm pretty sure what he's done isn't allowed.Dark, cold and still raining. I'm in winter clothes and fleecesMore cheery notes later

Do you think there is some confusion, or is it deliberate?According to that organisation it's the global, and European, temperatures that have been the hottest averaged over a year and/or over the summer, while the UK has been anomalous in having the coolest summer since 2015 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/articles/c93p5kz9elro). Simples!Am intrigued to see how you subvert your neighbour's territorial boundary - wire snippers, digger, or some other cunning plan...!?

I was going to get a canna pic but much too soggy right now

Thanks 2p.
I knew something official existed, and I've read that gov.uk advice before, but I'd rather not go full legal if it's possible to avoid it. Relations are already strained.

I can't cut the neighbour's wire fence! It was installed to comply with a deed in 1989 he knows nothing about. He probably just sees the main post and strainer are on his side of the wire, which suggests strongly that he owns it. My strategy will be to nip down and dig a narrow channel to the boundary, concentrating the flow and let the stream do the rest.....
...Sorry, dropped off for 10 mins after a late lunch,Pity about the blackberries pp, but you have a lovely sunset and a bum, so that's 2/3 of Utopia!

Alls quiet around here, hope that's a good thing. So the rain is supposed to have stopped for the morning but everything is soaking so it's a case of do what you can. Hope to get all the random plants and cuttings sorted and repotted this weekend. You can hope.Envy the people able to put washing out...........It's around 14c here, thankfully no wind just grey and wet. Lights on, fleeces on - neighbours alarm gone off so they must be awake. Other neighbours building stopped due to rain and Saturday, reckon it was an excuse to leave all their tools and digger somewhere over the weekend.Todays photo is is an out of focus Garlic Chives in bloom along the veg bed. Even they look a bit daunted by the massive drenching even though it is needed. They don't get eaten by slugs, the insects like them and they last well in a vase so you don't have to eat them. Not easy to get going initially but don't mind the wet or dry but once they're away they look after themselves. Very mild flavour.Right, off to get the shopping before the hoards.

Definite autumnal feel here this morning, it's been thick with fog these last few hours. Lifting now but the humidity will hardly drop below 90% all day
That's a bu99er about the brambles pp but look at that sunset! Deffo-lutely calendar material, and/or screensaver thing
It's getting a bit spider-y here too wort. I don't usually mind them, I leave them and their webs alone to catch the flies (flies are dirty little beasts with no standards) A tip if you hoover them up though - secure a bit of clingfilm or a sandwich bag over the end of the hoover before you store it away or they'll just walk right out again. Speaking of hoovers I put a few bits of dried lavender in my hooverbag (who mentioned that on here..?) and it makes the house smell lovely
Bladdy 'ell Dusty, what is the matter with your neighbour?! Other than 'hard of thinking'. I'd dig a deeper channel under it and let nature take care of the rest. I did think it was illegal to mess about with watercourses though, like 2p says, I thought it was a whole Thing. You know, for individuals I mean
They were talking about Scampton on my news last night, ixnay on the migrants but that's ok cos they're for putting houses on it instead. Wrong again, you heard it here first. They're keeping the airstrip though, which is good I think.
Beechgrove last night wasn't worth the watch really. The 'let's go over to a happy punter' section in the middle was alright though, a woman with a beautiful house and a great view who'd created a lovely garden. That part was nice to watch but more for the pretty of it than learning anything. Still no Georgeand is anyone else getting more and more sure that the awful Lizzie is pregnant..?
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -

At present, the stream is just a trickle.
If the blockage becomes an ongoing thing, we'll look for ways of upping the anti without going nuclear and alerting the Environment Agency. This person is sensitive about water. They bought at the bottom of a hill, without a proper survey that should have highlighted the potential for surface water flooding. That's occurred several times. The stream is no threat to their house, though.Did someone mention spiders? On Tuesday, I saw this wee garden spider, hiding in a rather tired-looking mint leaf :
Warning Graphic Arachnid Content!!!Misty and moisty out there first thing, and none too warm with it today. We're supposed to be walking, but the fields and paths will be very wet. It's cheering-up now. Adventurous routes are off the menu, I think. More rain tonight!

Rain has stopped, it tipped all day yesterday, and looks like more of the same today, very grey & dullStill hoping to pick my runners if it keeps dry2P, nice photo, very arty, even got name, Intentional Camera Movement, make a virtue out of it.Actually you could sell it to Specsavers, drum up business triggering people to get eyes testedI have garlic chives somewhere in my jungle, I hate garlic, but GC are nice to look at.YoungBlueEyes said:They were talking about Scampton on my news last night, ixnay on the migrants but that's ok cos they're for putting houses on it instead. I'll have a double peer at Lizzie to see if she has been propagating or fertilised.Well done on Channel Tunnel Dusty, and getting the spider shotI popped out early to get a pic of the canna, but came back with my split toms.Just shows how real rain must give more water, I've kept on top of the watering, but the rain must be Carlsberg rain, reached parts other water does not reachI've picked them and following close inspection and a wash they'll be OK to eat.The flies, without any standards, have washed off.I'll pick the remaining ripening ones & finish off on window sillEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Those split tomatoes look like red Pacmans, Farway
At least you can still eat them after a good wash. I think I'll pick the biggest tomato from my outside plant and put it on the windowsill - it's been green for weeks. I thought it would ripen with the sun we've had over the last few days, but nope.
We had a massive cobweb on the whirly yesterday (thankfully no massive spider) I took a pic, but there was no morning dew, so too difficult to make out on a photo. That's a colourful spider you've got there, Dusty.
YBE, I haven't watched this year's Beechgrove yet, I'm still on catch-ups from years ago.
twopenny, do the garlic chives smell of garlic when they're in a vase?? Hope that's not a daft question.
We had another gorgeous sunset last night - the midges were a bit of a swine though. It's lovely and sunny again today. Happy days'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Still not raining but OMG it is looking dark & gloomyAnyway, managed to pick my runners & collect some apples, just need to get the nearly ripe toms in nowpink_poppy said:Those split tomatoes look like red Pacmans, Farway
