Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Likewise with Dusty weather yesterday, I was just sparking myself up to sort out the wheelie bin, apples etc, and it tipped down, forever. So zilch done except wander about on YT, checked on the photos into art site, not for me, CBA these days, once I would've spent hours poncing about on carefully editing an image, but no longer.Actually had another non garden problem anyway, my little phone, wot I always have in pocket should I fall into a flower bed or worse, not charging.Bummer, it is only a cheapo £20 knock off, so not like hundreds of pounds gone badLuckily, I switched to emergency just in case cheapo knock off, so I'm safe to tumble into flower beds againNow slowly looking for cheapo knock off MKII, spoilt for choice once you realise old-fashioned refurb is just fineOut first thing, with more rain likely, and a Cold Snap on the way decided to pick what's left of the outside toms to ripen indoors, and remove the plants, it being Garden Bin day tomorrowactually not too bad on the toms, the Rubylicious turned out well in the end, just to my taste, especially with a pinch of salt. I'll certainly grow those again.Bit of a mini mystery, I have what I thought was Veranda Red, but it's yellow. Could be a Balcony Yellow I suppose from when they all fell on the floor early in their life cycle.twopenny said:Sheesh Farway, I had one of those and it never bloomed. Gotcha. Right. This is what 2p's pic reminded me of - the Moon Garden at Drenagh house. (This is where I wanted to get married, but their idea of a "small wedding party" and mine were too far apart.)
https://drenagh.com/
You can married in the Moon Garden, but times of the year when you'd be bathed in moonlight are r-e-a-l-l-y expensive
Edit - anybody looking for a business idea, there's a gap in the market for small wedding parties. 150 is not small, a couple of dozen is small.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
I'm with you on the short posts take longer YBE... in fact any post takes me too long as I suffer from self-editing disease (otherwise known as tweaking) - reminds me of a well-known author (can't remeber who) who said they dreaded having to write notes to send in to school (e.g., can my child be excused PE today as has a sprained ankle), as they could take half an hour to compose, edit, recompose, etc, to get the wording just right... Will stop now and resist falling into that trap!Except to say, OT, it rained a lot yesterday, in buckets and spades, plus some intermediate light damp, ditto the day before, when it was very dark all day - does cloud cover seem to be getting thicker- seem to remember it was like that a lot over last winter ? (i.e. July 2023 to June 2024) (Answers only on a postcard, or risk banishment!). Lots of sun today too (and have washing out
)

2p who would even think of drugging spiders 😳 and the poor elephants.
Farway had to laugh at the squirrels with handbags 👜😂
less imp hope your washing dried. The day here, what I’ve seen after work is bright but very windy, which at 5.30 am when I went was cold and rainy.
I like the moon gate idea, the photos are a perfect way to show a snapshot of beyond .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
By the light of the moon Bluey is going to be tricky. It's a long time since it's been visible so you'd need a vicar on stand by. But any spot will do where you might see it.Thanks for the heads up about Countryfile, seldom watch it because it's rare they get to us and when they do it's never the best and short. They hop straight to DevonThat's funny about wakeIt brightened up unexpectedly today but made me sad because the builders are digging up and cutting down my lovely deceased gardening neighbours garden to put in a second toilet. The soild is all dumped on the pea shingle and plants. I'm sure I felt her swirling around angry and shouting.I've made some pesto with the bug infested Basil, and put the pruned plant in a less invaded space.Stewed some apples from generous neighbours. The squirels or rats have had the rest of the apples despite the bags and my late strawberries have vanished. Not sure if the winds and rain helped, so strong they've got rid of all the blackfly on the beans!I'm off liking my garden at the mo, I'll stick to enjoying the lovely pictures on here. Unusual rainbow there Farway, I like the setting. And Dusty, I like a photo like that. Framing the subject.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Farway said:Nice mystery type pic Dusty, is that an overgrown path?Yes, it's the path from the foreshore into the nature reserve. Not exactly over-used!Lured by the promise of sunshine, we went on a further adventure yesterday, to another stately-home type pile, offering a walled garden and a tramp through woods to the beach as two of its charms.
I forgot to take a photo of the front. This is the rear, with a substantial cover of Virginia Creeper, just turning autumnal red.
The house would have been interesting enough to spend a wet afternoon in. However, having been warned by two guides I must not take photos, (the lens cap was on!) and then told off by another for finding one exhibit amusing, we didn't hang around very long. The amusing thing concerned a certain princess, sitting in a bath, naked, except for her tiara. The blurb said how her husband had been mortified when their children sold the tiara to pay death duties, although by then he'd long divorced her.
I felt the sentiments expressed were a little strange, giggled, and that was obviously very offensive.
I forgot people with considerable means are never weird, but 'eccentric.'
The walk to the beach was pleasant, dry underfoot and nearly sunny. It was pretty bracing when we arrived.
Five minutes surveying the scene and taking a few photos was plenty. No seals visible. And the sunshine? Hmmmm.
The walled garden was the best part, but I'm keeping that for later!2p, was that 'framed' photo taken at Greencombe?"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity6 -
Dry at the moment, rain on the way down from T'NorthGarden highlight, the garden waste wheelie has been emptied, and the bin men waste recycling technicians also put it back where they found it!twopenny said:It brightened up unexpectedly today but made me sad because the builders are digging up and cutting down my lovely deceased gardening neighbours garden to put in a second toilet. Such a pity when we all know how much work & love went into it.Bug pesto sounds tantalising, very Heston BI think I may also be apple stewing at the weekend, starting to get, a very welcome, glut now.Rats will be strawberry culprits, if not birdsVery nice bit of framing there 2P, apt because I recently watched a YT photographer, emphasising the subject is the most important part of photography, not the cameraDustyevsky said:The house would have been interesting enough to spend a wet afternoon in. The sitting in bath bit was on TV, The Crown, not that I watched it, just searched on the tiara. A bit of Sherlocking on a dull morning. No real gardening today, did most of it yesterday clearing the tomatoes and cutting back some over hanging buddleia, and removed dead lily stems.Today is my sweet corn, bought as young plants on whim from Morries, swelling but will they make it in time?Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
The princess in the bath story reminded me of this picture I saw in a local tat tourist shop - I'm thinking of buying it for my DD for Christmas
Pesto with added protein, twopenny, I hope it tastes nice.
Congratulations on the sweetcorn, Farway, it looks good, so fingers crossed it gets to the edible stage.
The beach looks quite rugged in your pic, Dusty.
Wet, wild and windy here today - the fire is set for tonight as temperatures plummet...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Late to the party today, I was up and out to miss the awful weather they'd predicted. It's arrived properly now, having just been a bit of thick drizzle with the odd splash of fat rain in between times. My connie roof sounds like the goddamn Gaza strip atm but with less protection
Windy it is too.
New system - I'll read all the new posts carefully and try to remember them, and then type a reply. It's the tweaking and going back and forth and up and down the page and adding/subtracting bits that's taking the time, you're right Less. I also need to remember to refresh before I click 'post', I think I've missed a few from posting at the same time as others.
It's jumper weather here too today pp, but there's better weather waiting in the wings for next week apparently
That's a cracking rainbow Farway and look at the leaves just starting to change. Lovely. I do love a framed pic, makes it more interesting than just a normal pic. Yours was a good one 2p, it feels very warm and calm and secretiveI had to read your post twice Dusty, the bit saying you only got the shot from the rear and the colour of it, made it sound like you were talking about your walking friend rather than the house
"I forgot to take a photo of the front. This is the rear, with a substantial cover of Virginia Creeper, just turning autumnal red." I would have been giggling at that tiara story too!
The Moon Garden - you can book a time slot when the moon will be full or nearly full and they're dear. The nights when it should be shining through the Moon Wall are laughing-at-you expensive. You take your chance on the weather by the time your slot comes round for those, but if it came good it'd be amazing! Considering how far in advance they're booked up it's not putting people offMore money than sense some people.
2p could you pop next door and just ask if it'd be alright to rescue some plants if they aren't keeping them..? Are they pleasant neighbours? It'd be hard to watch all the work go to waste
Good luck with your phone, and the sweetcorn Farway. Did you see Calum with his on t'Grove the other night?
P.S. New system is no easier. Well it would be if I hadn't reverted to old system half way through
P.P.S I didn't get talking to Cissie last night. She met someone at the wake she hadn't seen for donkeys years, and her granddaughter had had a wee girl, so she was up and out this morning with a bottle in her hand to go wet the baby's head and wasn't back yet, said Beloved Cousin. God love her
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Hello everyone,
I've MIA a little as I've been experimenting with working form home - which in itself has been great but for some weird reason I struggled to reply to any threads on MSE site.
I've been reading along and "liking" but my laptop grinds to a halt when I try and post. So very irritating.
I've nothing to report by the way of gardening - more gravel was shared with YBE at the weekend but the weather was so grotty I couldn't cut my grass or trim the privet (both of which are desperately in need of doing).
I noticed my Rowan had been stripped of it's berries - on one hand I was chuffed as it meant I've got wildlife in my garden to eat the things but on the other the glorious red colour was a joy and now it's gone.
I'm WFH whilst at my Mum's today - she has dementia so it's lovely to see her face every time she remembers I am here beavering away in the kitchen!!
I'm using the time to plan plants for my new growing area for next year.
I'm loving reading everyone's updates - keeping me motivated - even if it has taken me 45 minutes to do this short post!
