I can smell those roses from here, twopenny. Gorgeous.
Your toms look good too, Farway. I've put my indoor plant in front of the window to ripen mine (fingers crossed).
Dusty, I like Mr CanuteIt'll be interesting to see if the stream does flood, hopefully not on your side though.
YBE, your Autumn has arrived just as our Summer has arrived!! We're forecast wall to wall sunshine today, tomorrow and Saturday with temperatures up to 25 degrees!! Overusing the exclamation marks a bit there!!Sunday looks okay too, just a bit of cloud, then a drop in temps and back to rain next week. Ah well, it'll be nice while it lasts and I did get to wash my grubby windows at long last this morning.
I've been processing some apples that lovely neighbour gifted me the other day - not sure what they are, but he said they're not eating apples. I've peeled and chopped them and zapped them in the microwave to soften - will be nice with my porridge for breakfast. The brambles I picked yesterday have been washed and are now in the freezer - I'll probably shove a few of them in my porridge too. Or make an apple and blackberry crumble?? Yum...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Very steady rain here for hours now. Had some chaps working for the water authority poking about nearby. Apparently, they've lost the pressure relief valve. They focused on our horsey neighbour's place over the road, where her stables are built somewhat contrary to regs, over the main.
I'm hoping....well, perhaps I'd better not say!
The stream isn't running yet, which shows how much we've dried-out. At present, the land's just having a good, long drink. It should benefit the apple crop and help our new hedges and grass establish.twopenny said:I was going to post a photo of Garlic Chives flowering but Dusty beat me to it. They look so good bursting into bright blooms when everything else is on the way out. Taste good in scrambled eggs tooMy photo's very close-up and doesn't show what the whole plant looks like. Anyway,
Farway and I often post similar things.Farway said:Yesterday, on way back from Morries I had to pop in and book the car in, sobs gently. The bonnet release pull thingy has broken, so can't "pop" the bonnet to check water, washer etc.
Years ago I would've repaired it myself, but the body & bones no longer allow me to stick head or torso in passenger's foot well & look, or work, under dashboardNow, the motor is squeaking on the blower, which is buried even further in, but I'm just living with it for now!
Your Divinity tom looks like a show winner, so I'll be interested to hear how it fares. We need one new variety, having trialled and rejected 'Gardener's Ecstasy.' Mrs D will be the final judge; I'm just the gardener. Those roses repeated well 2p !"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity4 -
Sorry to hear about your car Farway. I too used to service the thing quite easily. My friend paid some £200 for a service from the dealer! I didn't like to say she was ripped off but..........what the heck do they do for a service now that there's no points, the plugs stay clean with the new fuels. Battery is just sticking a probe on. Or is it all the new gismos that need a seeing to?That rose flowers massively all year till Christmas. The area is full of fragrance but for that reason it drops a lot of petals as it goes. I'm ok with that. After all, people pay a fortune to have rose petals scattered on something, these come free
Think it's Blush Noisette. Keeps a size that's easy to manage and deals with all weathers.
Dusty I'll get the photo when it's not sodden out there if there's anything left after the wind and rain. Like you its been chucking it down all day and the ground has just soaked it up. Wonder if the neighbours builders will turn up in this weather?I also found that I'd left my strimmer outside last night and it's been drenched. It's in the garage and I'm hoping that it will dry right out. Won't be needed for a week or more according to the forcast. So meantime here's a cheery one for my 'Gardens and Blooms' set tomorrowI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It's true, it's little things like "not a bother, I'll dispatch a minion to the scrappy" that are the sign of a good garage Farway :clapping: And I'm not a bit jealous of our toms, really I'm not
2 months to put a toilet in 2p?! Sounds excessive does that... Hopefully they're not Radio1 at full volume sorts too. Those roses are so cheering, and a very pretty jug tooWhat's the animal in your pic - a polar bear..?
According to the weather last night you've got the best of it up there pp, Glasgow is to be 26'cMind you deserve it after all the cold yous have had. And you'll be able to see it now through your clean windows
Don't be having mean thoughts Dusty, think of your karmaWhat's coming for ye will no pass by ye. Or them
Titter ye not!
Have you suvveners all survived the biblical rains and flood wot they said about on the weather? Desperate state of affairs it looked like. We had drizzly humid damp rain 'til mid-aft, then it slowly eased and was dry by about 1700 ish. It's the humidity I want to lift really, I can't get me windows open. Sunny today with a high of 23'c or sunny/cloudy up to 21'c. They say. I need to go bulb shopping, again, cos I planted all mine, I forgot to keep some aside for mum and dad :rolleyes:I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -

How upset we get is under our control, too, so there's much to consider......What I'm imagining would be hilarious, though!
Rain was just persistent, not Noah quality, and fortunately, little in the way of wind. We shall have more of the same until lunchtime, I believe.Stepping outside this morning, there was a definite autumn feeling, with added sogginess...."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." It makes a change to have lovely weather and clean windows, YBE
there was a nip in the air first thing though.
I've discovered what happens when you remove an anthill... they swarm elsewhere in the gardenI went for a wander in the garden last night and there were hundreds of them swarming on the path, over the compost bags and in amongst the stones
I noticed quite a few winged ones too, with some taking off while I was out there. I think flying ant day has been and gone for some of you, but I think ours was yesterday. Urgh, makes me itch just thinking about it
I'm going to have to get some ant powder or something to get rid of them - I did pour some boiling water over them and then cold water with tea tree oil (I saw peppermint oil mentioned as a deterrent but the tea tree oil was all I had), I need some heavy duty stuff. My worst nightmare is them getting into the house
Anyway, it's beautiful sunshine out there so I'm off to (hopefully) pick more brambles. I was going to pick some for lovely neighbour but he's already been out and picked some himself - honestly there's no stopping him'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Not read back everything yet. But on the subject of cheese 🫣I know ! Any left over though like wine when is there left overs. If you grate it and stick in the freezer it can be used in cooking. I do this when going on hols.I’m more like Gromit I think 😂
love the erigiron on masse , mine self seeds in any little crack , so I think the best solution is neglect, like rosemary and lavender.
Been chilly, but today is set for a scorcher already hot out there and warning for keeping windows shut.Spiders are everywhere , just had a good Hoover and bedding has just finished in machine ready to peg out.Not many bees though had quite a few of those that look like wasp on the yellow daisy flowers.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Another wet & rainy morning, dull & gloomy. At least no need for my Friday plant pot watering today.Dustyevsky said:Your Divinity tom looks like a show winner, so I'll be interested to hear how it fares. Or is it all the new gismos that need a seeing to?I think it's labour costs + the gizmos, all this eco and emissions stuff. Just watched a YT on why some modern diesels are unreliable, down to all the eco stuff, more to go wrong. It was fine when we could just puff stuff out of exhaust for lungs of pedestrians & cyclists to filter, but now the stuff clogs the gizmos of the carsGood luck with bramble picking P P, I think mine will be mouldy with our wet. It's late for flying ants, I wonder if they have second broods?Isn't a chalk line supposed to stop ants?My mum was always worrying about getting ants inside, drove us up the wall in her later, dementia, years, which made a change from people breaking in and stealing her tea bagsCan smile now but infuriating at the time, despite trying very hard to be understandingWelcome back Wort, in time for spider seasonReported this morning on Beeb, they've turned gaslighting up to max and report this summer was the hottest ever.Phew, no wonder I nearly melted here in my extra jumper during Junuary

That's because he was tight and impatient. When I arrived with my cement mixer to do the floor slab one weekend, he hadn't ordered enough concrete making material. I protested, but he said, "Make it do the job!" So, I did, but I knew it was a bodge!
He kept forgetting he had ant powder, so he amassed quite a collection of those puffer packs! When I inherited them, being tight myself, I didn't throw them out. They came with us here, where we soon discovered carpet beetles.
People told us, "Nothing works!" but they were wrong.
The ancient ant powder had some banned substance in it, so saw the carpet maggots off in no time!
There's a theme here: old ant powder worked, old diesels worked, old spider mite spray worked, old fence post treatment worked, and old potting compost worked. Now we have 'safe' alternatives, which are 'good.' Hurrah!Yesterday, the same organisation you mention was telling us it was the carppiest summer since 2015. Do you think there is some confusion, or is it deliberate? Here is my neighbour's attempt to prevent the stream bringing autumn debris into his garden when it starts running. Having thought about it some more, I think he may be attempting to leave me with a huge pile of detritus. Whatever his motives, I now feel honour-bound to subvert his plan!

Another disappointing bramble haul - I think someone is getting there before me. I might try again tomorrow, but probably need to take a stick because the nice ones are always at the back.
I had sheep poo to contend with and this extremely vicious looking plant - this bit was dead, but there were plenty more that were alive and kicking...
Spotted a bum on neighbour's chimney pot this morning... (not a cloud in the sky)
And a stunning sunset from last night when we were out for a walk...
