Thanks for the reassurance Dusty
And don’t be bothering with Latin names now, I’ve trouble enough keeping up as it is! Thank god the RHS website isn’t pay per go, that’s all I’m saying
Gawd gb, 5am?! What did you do with the body? And what did you do with the slug?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
I thought it was a Goldfinch in twopenny's thistles?? Lovely pic anyway.
The wall isn't mine, unfortunately. I wish it was. I love anemones, but it's one of those words that won't come out of my mouth properly
My waterproofs and wellies are being delivered this morning (allegedly), just in time for the lovely weather that YBE mentioned. Temperatures in the 20s and no rain. Whoop!! It'll be short-lived though, because it always is.
I'm going brambling this afternoon, fingers crossed there's some left.'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Dry and sort of OK weather, not any good for sea swimming but no need for waterproofs either. There were half bottomed mares tail clouds earlier, but even they were not worth finding my camera for.pink_poppy said:That's a pretty plant, Farway, the leaves as well as the flower.
When will your carrotty carrots be ready?? We were gifted some homegrown carrots by lovely neighbour a couple of weeks ago, along with a leek, some tatties, an onion and some curly kale (I think). They all went into homemade soup (I'm back eating soup after my food poisoning of a few weeks ago) and very nice it was too.Shoo fly would have loads of flowers if grown properly, it's really a house or conservatory plant, but being in Soft Sarf it self-seeds in the garden, just germinates late, so never really gets huge.If undercover, it can devour a greenhouse and obliterate every thing in there, a pretty & poisonous monster, ideal for the Death Border combining them with Foxgloves, & daffsUp watering the volunteer pots this morning, then on to MorriesFound a spot to plant my Home Bargain Tete a tete, a foxglove in a pot near the main door has departed for the fiords, not surprised being a biennial and flowered this year.I'll plant the daffs Saturday, maybe.Morries, a bit of a jackpot, they had big reductions on the last gasp plants, so it was a large Achillea 45p and a named honeysuckle 25P
Achillea, probably destined for DS Boot / daisy hill,Honeysuckle, I think in volunteer patch, I planted a bay there years ago & now it is going well, a monster in fact, and adjacent to Drs' wheelie bin bit. If I can get a honeysuckle scrambling there,it should look good and take care of itself.YoungBlueEyes said:Doesn't the nasturtium look well among your toms Farway? How's the canna this morning - has it Opened Grandly yet..? I like your Shoo Fly flower too, seems like an awful lot of leaf for that one wee flower though… I'll have a look at your pic link in a min. Reminds me, did anyone see Countryfile on Sunday? They've got a vote open for the front page image, jeez they're all beautiful. Some have pleasing captions toohttps://www.countryfile.com/countryfile-tv-show/countryfile-calendar/competition-2025
, just waiting for a few more and then I'll post a pic
I like the nasturtiums, easy and self seed, I leave them to just scramble, with sometimes a bit of a guiding hand to point them the right wayLooked at the pics on your link, I like them, but the work must have been painstaking. Wasn't there a big hoo ha a few years back someone cheating, stuffed door mouse or something?Today it is Lucifer seed pods, imitating Red Arrows StarburstEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Slim pickings with the brambles/blackberries
loads still to come, so maybe this sunny weather we're due to have will bring them on. I got rained on while I was out, which was doubly annoying because I've got washing hanging outside on the whirly for the first time in I don't know how long
I'll wait a couple of days and go back to see if I can pick more brambles. I did see some sloe fruit - does anyone on here pick them?? I've heard of sloe gin and have an unopened 1L bottle of Gordon's that I was gifted a few months ago so I might have to google how to make it.
Nice bargains at Morries, Farway. I've noticed a couple of the shops have got bulbs in now (tulips etc) and a local garden centre was advertising snowdrops. I've actually got a plant pot full of daffodil and bluebell bulbs that I dug up when we were attempting to landscape the garden (that ground to a halt because of the weather) so I should really get them planted somewhere else before they rot.'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
I was quite pleased that the cat woke me up to tell me about the slug YBE, otherwise I might not have found it (just the trails on the carpet). The slug went down the loo. The cat had early breakfast.5

I had a bargain in Morries yesterday, but it wasn't plants; they were mostly dead!
I picked up 45kg of top quality charcoal for £11.25!
That's at least 2 season's worth. I've never seen the stuff for sale there, as it's been the instant light variety, or the horrible aluminium trays, for some time now.

Big rain coming most people's way today and tomorrow. I'll try to get a picture of neighbour, Mr Canute's privacy fence, blocking the stream, before the deluge starts!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity5 -
Ooh I like the Red Arrows starburst seed pods
A bit jealous of your morries half-dead bargains, the lean to that our morries calls it's gc has been shut for a wee while now. I swung in yesterday on my way back from Posh Town just to check they hadn't reopened it and not told me. Still shut. A honeysuckle scrambling through a bay sounds heavenly.
The brambles aren't anything to write home about round here either pp. The numbers are ok, but the size and colour and taste aren't up to much
How's the building work going @taff? Have they cut your internet off cos you can't afford to pay that and 150 teabags per hour..?
I expect 2p will come back with loads of beautiful photos, now the tourists have gone and she's got the place to herself
Been raining on and off all night here and it's still drizzling now. You'd not think there was anything left up there after all the 'intermitant showers' we had yesterday. Cool and damp and humid with it. Not a fan. Cloudy and dry today, they say. Maybe they mean after it stops raining it'll be dryAutumn sure has arrived here.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Wet & windy this morning, Dusty Big Rain has arrived!I had intended picking some more runners, inspecting apples & blackberries etc, all of which will have to wait & see if it brightens up.Sounds like Morries is having a GC clear-out, in time for Halloween & that beginning with CMince pies were out in mine, with the price of them they would've made a nice extra gift from the Three Wise MenYesterday, on way back from Morries I had to pop in and book the car in, sobs gently
. The bonnet release pull thingy has broken, so can't "pop" the bonnet to check water, washer etc.
Years ago I would've repaired it myself, but the body & bones no longer allow me to stick head or torso in passenger's foot well & look, or work, under dashboardGarage had a look, the bracket is brokenAnd that was when I knew my garage choice was the right one, scrapyard down the road. They said they'll find something there to cobble up carefully adapt to fix it, rather than send of for new, no doubt out of stock, bitBooked in for next ThursdayI like the ginger lily Dusty, coincidently I was only thinking of getting some for next year, not really looked into it, but it is a plan brewingSampled my first Rubylicious tomatoes yesterday, lovely, not too sweet or sharp, just right for me. Given the nice long trusses & blight resistance I'll grow that again.Today is Divinity, not tasted, also blight resistant, the toms are decent salad sizes, not beef steak or cherryBush type, but not flopping everywhere, deep keeps green foliage, looks quite attractiveEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Went missing in action yesterday because the sun came out, no wind and warmish so got on with the pruning etc.Enjoyed the photos, sunsets I haven't seen for a while so a nice reminder, healthy looking plants all good.I was going to post a photo of Garlic Chives flowering but Dusty beat me to it. They look so good bursting into bright blooms when everything else is on the way out. Taste good in scrambled eggs too
Can't get them to grow in the flower beds oddly but they are currently trimming the winter veg bed and there are no white fly on those so it's a theory I'll have to try and plant some in the other bed where my broccoli is being attacked.
Pouring down at last here - just when it's time to get out and about and what hasn't grown won't grow.Yup, blight on tomatoes, still green as green, brocolli curling up with white fly. Even the Cabbage Whites won't lay their eggs on it, Runner beans the leaves are curling up and falling off as if it's winter.I've trimmed down the rose over the arch and severely where it hung over the fence and my neighbours bins because the flowers do make a bit of a mess. Didn't like to say but it's always been a bit of a mess there, ho hum.So I've got some vases of wonderful scented roses now that cheer up a wet, dark, cold day.Just been going through my 'garden & blooms' photos for tomorrows showing. I'll post a few later so we all think it's still summerGlad everyone seems to be in one piece at the mo.Posting may be intermitent because neighbours building is due to start tomorrow. They are having a toilet put in at the back but the note says '2 months'You can build a house in 10 days so goodness knows who they've got and what they are having done!
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
