I think you need to add 'hold your nose' to that 'down in one', DustyI forgot to add, brush teeth afterwards, if you want to keep them!
No news from the garage yet.I've spent the morning refamiliarising myself with bat legislation. We're hoping to submit a planning application at the end of the week, but if we can't, it'll be next June, all courtesy of bats. Unfortunately, we can't get hold of Bat Lady at present; she's out on a job with.....yeah, you guessed!

A Vicars son owned it before me, I found his stash of prophylactics in the steering wheel well behind the logo cover...One of my pals was a vicar's son. I sympathised, especially when his Dad, outraged by their lascivious content, burnt his entire collection of Rolling Stones records.
The Stones outlasted him, and his Dad. He killed himself passed away in the '90s.
Rain still to arrive....correction: it's here.wort said:Dusty I thought the shrub was pittosporum Tom Thumb with its shiny crinkly leaves, hope you enjoyed the wedding, and had a dance, keep the joints in order. Great sitooterie for our inclement weather. The last time I danced was in 2019, when DD got engaged. I'd consumed a considerable quantity of 'pain relief.' Last Saturday, I'd an 'engagement' with the M5 to consider!OK new challenge. Basic sitooterie on top of a slope, but what is the large plant framing it? (And why does it need a pallet???)

I think you need to add 'hold your nose' to that 'down in one', DustyThat was my thought as well, looked like a DIY Mayo kitUp watering volunteer spot first thing, so only recently back & catching up on fresh posts, seems MOT time around here, I think mine had a narrow escape, the washers are not working this morning, I've had it before. I bet it's a manky connection in the French Fuse box, fuse 8 IIRC.
I'll have to sort it before winter but no urgency now, I've still got the spray bottle I used to squirt out of the window beforeMaybe your car will be as easy, or not, to fault find with the new garage 2PDustyevsky said:Car delivered. Rather naff (orange) courtesy car with 123 thousand miles on the clock supplied.Probably as reliable as my Hillman Imp, but looked a bit betterBest of MOT luck BTW.That's a lot of work WM, but looks like it will be grand once finished, are we invited round? Bring a plant party!wort said:Farway very diligent netting the grapes, that’s the sort of thing I don’t get round to. I’ve still no sign of raspberries 😏I wonder if they’re autumn ones would they be setting flower now though?Seems Autumn ones are odd, both mine are Autumn ones, different varieties, one is fruiting, the red one I showed, and one is just opening its flowers, so goodness knows.pink_poppy said:Anyone see the Aurora or Perseids last night?? I didn't. I was up at just after midnight and the stars looked good - I was too tired to stay up though.I spotted a "blink or you missed it" meteor, but too far south for Aurora & I CBA to try using a phone camera the time of night-taff said:DOn't worry about the fig, it gets fruit on last years brancehs I think[ farway?] but it doesn't flower, it just sends out litle blobs that get bigger and eventuallly turn into fruit. You may have some yet.Farway, congrats on the car passsing, 2P, fingers crossed an old fashioned one can find the problem...With Global Boiling we may get two crops like they do in warmer climates, I have some young ones that could yet grow & ripen if weather holdsMeanwhile, a fig not far off ripening. The green ones may or may not make it, weather again. And with the bird / wasp netEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
I was thinking salad dressing too Less
I know what folks mean now when they say the thread is moving fast. Loads of new posts!
Alice - thanks for ID'ing my bamboo bug. I only got the pics because I sat r-e-a-l-l-y still and clicked away on my phone, then did the same again when it moved. I took 118 photos to get 2 good ones, so it really is luck not skill (in my case).
Woohoo for Pirate Patches on cars and figs Farway, and fingers firmly crossed your Old School fellah can get your one to behave 2p
Your picture made me chuckle pp, and 'boak' made me smile
Your garden's really dong well eh Arb. What you got to harvest next? Have you got sweetcorn too?
Bob isn't here taff, he came the other day to drop off his cement mixer and work will start at the weekend. He's happy with the bricks we got, and he's impressed with the rope top tilesHe was talking about putting them across the top of the wall or something, but he'll not be. I want them for doing a swirly floor sitooterie something or other. That's a bu99er about your water butt
Are you due any rain..?
Glad to hear you're alright wort. They treating you kindly at work?
An orange courtesy car Dusty, well at least you'll never lose itHave they given you an idea how long you'll have it?
I love your water feature wm, you could sit all day listening to thatI'd have to get it level by shoving carefully maneuvering a stone under one side though. And I'd have to sort out the bottom left hand corner of the bottom right hand square of bricks... even if you couldn't see it you'd always know it was there
You can't have much left to do then have you? You've made such a difference on so little money. It all looks great to me
OT Apparently last night the Northern Lights were visible all the way down to Cornwall, did anyone get a look? Warm here again at 24'c, and the humidity's as low as I've ever seen it - 44% and still a bit of a drop to come. It'd be lovely to let it blow through the house but I don't want all that heat in hereI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
I just had a request from the system suggesting I might like to add an avatar - never been asked before, though I've been on here for nearly 10 years... so, having done so, here's a test post, just to note that our over-20 year old Fiesta recently acquired it's second pirate patch, at its MOT disappointingly out of synch with the rest, back in May...OT it started raining pretty much on cue, c. 3pm, according to Devonians... so that's a point to them...(doesn't do much to counter the thousands of points previously deducted tho...

I can see your test post and your avatar Less. Couldn’t tell you what it is though. A close up of a….. pile of pretty coloured stones? Please god don’t say it’s your toes or something or I’ll never look at this thread again!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8

LessImpecunious said:just to note that our over-20 year old Fiesta recently acquired it's second pirate patch, at its MOT disappointingly out of synch with the rest, back in May...No piratical patching here on our Fiesta-derived 16-year-old Fusion, but a corroded brake pipe and two rear Bong-ho Crappigrips need replacing, as predicted. Then there's that EML light which 'might' go out when the oil's changed..... or it might not.
Anyway, it's not coming home tonight.
In other news, Batwoman hasn't returned to her base, so we're getting nowhere fast on our planning application.Farway said:I always fancied those orange wedge shaped cars, Bond Bug? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bond_BugProbably as reliable as my Hillman Imp, but looked a bit betterOurs was from Guernsey, so LHD besides generally dangerous!
Luckily, the only time I put it on 2 wheels, I'd the option of going straight on! The gear lever used to come off in one's hand, and just to add a frisson of extra excitement, it would periodically emit a loud farting sound and die. We learned that meant taking the jet from the carburettor and blowing the carp out.
No, the Imp was all round nicer and civilised. If I'd wanted to sit 6" from the road to feel the speed, I'd have opted for an MG Midget.OT: As Less says, the rain was accurately forecasted, and now we have dribbling for the rest of daylight hours, so no more mowing or bracken spraying. I guess it's pick the toms, fix the hens' feed and water, and hope for a better day tomorrow.Hope 2p has her wheels back and firing on all cylinders.

No fear - no toes...it's a pile of squashes, from several years ago... (including, for those interested, a Buttercup type - large and green, some small green Hokkaido/Uchiki Kuri ones (I think), and the curled-up one at the front is a Summer Crookneck - a sort-of halfway between a summer and winter squash, which I've not found satisfactory seed of since...)
On 3-wheelers, my Dad, who would have been in his late 90s by now, often (whenever one, or perhaps a Bubble Car was spotted) said he'd never get into a Reliant Robin, or any car with the single wheel at the front - a Morgan would be the only sensible choice, with the single at the back...

I can't zoom in to see your squashes, Less, but they do sound very impressive, you sound like a squash growing extraordinaire. I laughed at the 'salad dressing' comment, but actually you're right
I got that avatar notification too, so have added a pic of 'Elvis' from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow as a wee nod to someone no longer here.
Hope Batwoman appears today from wherever she was roosting, Dusty. It must be extremely frustrating for you and DW. Was this a survey that you had commissioned pre-planning application, or one of your 'lovely' neighbours?? I think the surveyor adding something that wasn't relevant, but that could cause problems sounds deliberate, or is that just me being cynical?? Hope it gets sorted this week.
YBE, I didn't notice the out of sync bricks in WM's garden until you mentioned it and I then had to go back for a lookBtw, I think it was you that had been to Filey recently and seen a boat called 'Life of Filey'?? We were watching an episode of 'Yorkshire by the Sea' last night (Channel 4 on catch-up) and it showed that very boat
Apologies if I've mis-remembered, I'm half asleep...
Talking of which, I've been awake with stomach ache and a headache since 3.30am. I think the headache is lingering from a retinal migraine I had yesterday afternoon. The sore stomach is possibly from last night's dinner - it was just chicken fajitas, but maybe one of the ingredients hasn't agreed with me. Mrs Neverwell strikes again...
I was hoping to see some Perseids, seeing as I'm up early, but it's too cloudy out there. Forecast for today is dry with sunny intervals and a moderate breeze - sounds like an ideal 'washing out on the whirly' kinda day'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -

Hope it gets sorted this week.If you open a person's profile and then click on the avatar to open in a new window, it appears full size.....on a computer. Don't know about tablets, phones etc. I must say, Elvis has some interesting features....I didn't realise he was so bow-legged!We commissioned the bat report. They're a must-do for any barn conversion. The people who do them may be naive about planning, so may say something unhelpful about the history, or the structure itself. I won't elaborate further, but awkward references may be removed in the final draft. The lovely neighbours have fallen silent. Two weeks ago, we whipped out our front hedge bank, just before the digger and dumper left us. It was all done and dusted in 2 hours flat, and none of the awkward lot saw it happen. I was going to post a picture, but in view of the last sentence, decided not to.It was prep work for front garden changes we'll make when we have the £. We're learning to fight dirty, too!
Still drizzling here, but we're promised better weather later, and into the next week or so.No takers on the big-leaved plant in the last sitoouterie picture? Here's another view:EDIT: Just noticed. Mrs Dusty didn't quite hide, as instructed, for this shot!

To be honest, i couldn't really see it
I'd hazard some kind of tetrapanax, that's the only big leaved thing I know though besides gunnera and it's not that
Thanks for the shot glass leveller recipe, I'm thinking to give it a miss though, underberg will do at a pinch..
ybe, you have what my sister would call compliance eyes...Just a side note, my car passed it's MOT last week tooIt's been drizzling since long before I woke up, which is nice for the plants, not so nice for the builders, hopefully the empty butts, which are big and don't lie, may fill slightly. I've got the greenhouse doing it's very small bit at least for water saving.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7
