pink_poppy said:Ooh, I'll look out for that plant, gollygosh. A bit disappointing that it only grows to 4 feet high as I was hoping I could use it as hedging (it looked quite dense in Dusty's pic) I'd still like one though.
Hope the wedding was fun, Dusty. I haven't been to a wedding for ages, it's just been funerals lately.Note that the Lophomyrtus is only hardy down to about -5c.The wedding was a break from funerals for us, too.The opportunity to find a cutting or two that Farway mentioned, wasn't there, unfortunately.
Plenty of willows, I suppose.
Here's a blow-up of the background in a photo I took. It's not very hard to work out roughly where we were!

Lovely skies, Bluey, and good to see Robin has tidied himself up.
We had an amazing red and purple sunset on the way home last night, but as I was driving, there's no photo.
Those 'socks' look like good camouflage for your burgeoning grape harvest, Farway. I shan't need to buy any myself this year, but it will be interesting to see how yours fare.
No rain yesterday to spoil the occasion, but it was dull, windless, and humid. Same here today, so far, but we're promised 24c and sunshine later. Could be a 'white leg' day then!No specific photo for today, so here's a wee pond in someone's courtyard sitting area, viewed a few weeks ago.y

Thats the pool I want Dusty!Wow it's hard to keep up.Sills and flags take 2 weeks to see if it's done the trick. The chemical stuff has kept those I did looking good still. But it's a case of waste not want not as I have the gentler stuff left. Those skies are lovely Bluey. Thanks for reminding me what blue sky looks likeFarway, could you post the link for the bags again please. I must learn to bookmark with this thread! The rain predicted for 2 days ago arrived briefly last night aparantly but not enough to wet the soil which is now like compacted sand, a lot of which is under my nails! I've mowed and trimmed and some slightly medative weeding.Cool here and still grey cloud but not as humid so it's finishing off the garden stuff painting today, maybe clean the windows while there's no sun.Autumn Cyclamen blooming - what do they know?
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

More blue sky for ya 2p -I’m sat in the shade with a book, the sun’s fierce here now but it’s not hot thank god.I reckon I could have room for that pond Dusty, could even be a plunge pool
Did the wedding go well? Even I recognise where you were!
Wondering if I need apple socks. Also wondering if those fruit+veg net bag things you see in supermarkets would do the same job, bearing in mind I only have 5 apples…Also wondering if I should fire up the laptop and see what’s for sale in that French France…I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.9 -
It's baking out there, picked a pile of blackberries & finished off pruning the apple tree, still have the pear to do but garden waste wheelie is full now, so job for another daytwopenny said:Farway, could you post the link for the bags again please. Once the bank robbing is over.
They may be too tight and squeeze the growing fruit IYSWIM
And I also recognised the wedding spot Dusty, one place I've wanted to go but with my legs it would be a bit pointless now.I'll have one of those pools as well pleaseEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -

Also wondering if I should fire up the laptop and see what’s for sale in that French France…Yes, that pool wasn't a huge project, and it brought life and movement to the area it was in.The wedding went well, considering....I won't elaborate on the considerations! Some key players were unavailable, and many of us barely knew the other team, so it was a little reserved at first, but by mid-afternoon things were livelier.
We had to leave early, to arrive home at a sensible hour, so I can't say how the event ended, but apart from a few younger folk on our side, we looked well-outclassed in the liquid refreshment section, pre-hog roast.

Sheesh it came out hot and muggy all of a sudden.Painted stuff mainly in the shade but lots of little spiders and flying ants.Did likewise with the book and pot of tea in Sitoorie 1 where it was shady with a cool breeze.Good book Bluey? Great that the builder is of the same mind re interesting materials. Waiting in anticipation to see what you getThanks Farway, I;ve bookmarked it in 2 different places so fingers crossed I don't loose it this time.23c here tonight at 10pm
Saw a small flash of lightning and ages after a little rumble of thunder.
It's Persidies Meteor Shower best bits tonight and tomorrow if you have somewhere dark to go.Sadly too much cloud here and the car not working.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The apple tree is one of the pair that Lovely Neighbour bought us as a house-warming present Farway, they're Discovery if I remember rightly. I think they're nearly there tbh so I won't bother with socks. I'll look at the sm net bag things tomorrow when I'm out to see how holey they are. If not then I'll pinch your tights idea - the feet would work I reckon. My apples look better now since I nipped off the leaves so the sun could get at them, they've reddened up a treat
I can't wait for a taste, I've never grown fruit before. Well tomatoes I have, but you know what I mean.
Glad the wedding went well Dusty, and you can tell us the interesting considerations if you like - it's not like we're gonna tell anyone ha haa!
The book is hard going tbh 2p, it's Nella Last Writing In War And Peace, the collected diaries thing. I'm hardly 100 pages in and I'm struggling, which is rare for me. So I read The Reader instead by Bernhard Schlink. Much better, I swallowed that in one go. They made a film of it with Kate Winslet. Ever so good, highly recommend.
I didn't catch any of the meteor shower even though it was clear here, it was too late for us. No thunderstorms either so you got more than we did up here 2p! It has just rained a wee bit mind, so maybe that's our shareHopefully everyone manages to avoid the worst of it.
There was a dragonfly (?) swirling about the garden yesterday, and I got a pic. Actually 2 pics! Both decent! I did literally take about 100 photos just to get these two.... Doesn't look half as colourful as it does in the air, looks more like a wee bit of bamboo to me but here it is anyway -
It was just going from stalk to stalk on my Lamb’s Ears. It's lucky himself was roasting himself like a turkey on the grass or I'd never have spotted it.
OT warm already and desperate heat to come, 23'c already and a high of 30 this aftI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Supposed to be a hotty today, way up in boiled alive range.Checking V'sky the geographical differences are amazing but not unexpected, there was 20F between where DGD is [Aberdeen] and me at 0800. Mid 70 here that early, but I slept well, having been deprived of sleep the previous night. With the good night's kip I was out watering in the relative cool first thing, all pots at the front done, ready for their toasting later. Also trundled garden wheelie bin round & ready for collection tomorrowAnd, put netting socks on the rest of the apples, well not quite, there is Elstar near the house, but I want to get the figs covered firsttwopenny said:Did likewise with the book and pot of tea in Sitoorie 1 where it was shady with a cool breeze. Thanks Farway, I;ve bookmarked it in 2 different places so fingers crossed I don't loose it this time. It's Persidies Meteor Shower best bits tonight and tomorrow if you have somewhere dark to go.Sadly too much cloud here and the car not working.I was up and did check for meteors, clear starry night but none spottedCar due back with brand-new MOT later today, hope so because I want to water up the volunteer place tomorrow, with the heat the pots soon dry outTime permitting I may pop along to Home Bargains for a garden bits mooch afterwards, I need more diesel as well, I never top up prior to MOT, just in case IYKWIM, tempting fate etc.YoungBlueEyes said:The apple tree is one of the pair that Lovely Neighbour bought us as a house-warming present Farway, they're Discovery if I remember rightly. No sporty setting on my camera Farway - mostly cos it's only my phone and all I do is press the camera icon on the front screen and then go clickclickclickclickclick CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK and then delete the detritus. I'll be careful when putting their tights on, won't be 'til tonight mind cos it's h-o-t out there already. I've 2 loads of washing done and back in already and a third is swishing round as we speak. Sure it's a grand drying day altogether
The apple tree is a Tesco one, Lovely Neighbour bought us that and a pear when we moved in
Lots of meteor shower and northern lights pics about today, Norn Iron got the best of it last night it seems.
And oh aye, I forgot to mention that someone has set up an official Sitooterie. Did look good, and worth it despite the conditions they suffer under. I wonder if George will go after them for using his word....
I really need to get me erse in gear and start Domestic Nonsense but am mafted!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.9
