Dispute with neighbour - they want to attach their garage extension to our detached garage??

Have you spoken to them at all?

quite honestly if it were me , that would not be there in the morning13

Can’t you call the police for trespassing or criminal damage?0

You surely want to get this resolved as painlessly as possible. A letter from a solicitor often sorts things out. The last thing that your parents would want is a full blown legal dispute over this.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

No need for a solicitor. Write them an LBA stating that their building work has illegally encroached on your parents' property, and if the encroachment is not removed within 7 days then it will be removed without further notice by yourselves or your contractors. All costs arising from this (and repairs to your parents' garage where they have illegally inserted that RSJ) will be recovered from them, by legal action if necessary.
You need to do this without further delay before any more work is done. I'm just amazed that they've been allowed to proceed this far: the initial account you gave seemed to indicate a 'modest' encroachment. But tieing in a huge RSJ to the garage wall is just blatant p1ss-taking. How do the neighbours think this is even remotely acceptable? No free lunch, and no free laptop15 -

Just wondering - how on earth is the roof going to work? new trusses? From their existing garage... or a flat roof, but still requires proper guttering etc. That is going to down-value both properties big time. All that effort for what? an extra 50cm once complete - incredible, never seen anything like it (shanty town in bangalore maybe) -

Once was a detached property, has now become a link-detached -2
-
A link-detached property or house is a term given to residential units that share no common walls with another house or dwelling. They are, however, typically linkedtogether by a garage.
