Dispute with neighbour - they want to attach their garage extension to our detached garage??

  • So frustrating for an extension so small but it’s the principle and the workmanship is already questionable and causing concern for future issues.

I know this is not all that relevant but what on earth is the point of such a small extension?  (Make of that what you will)  Surely they could find somewhere else to put a loo; if it is for storage, why don't they just get a shed?  Your parents' neighbours sound like a load of words not allowed on here, OP; I wish you and them luck but think the neighbour is heading for a fall if they just find some legal advice from somewhere.  Judge Rinder would, I think, have a field day.
  • You can see here how the newly erected left side and rear wall has already been attached to my parents detached garage!

I really don't think they can just do this without permission and, again, what on earth is the point of it?  I stand to be corrected by those who know more but it looks like a damp magnet to me, for both their and your parents' houses.  Talk about impractical.

It's attached to each other garages, not their houses, but it still isn't a sensible thing to do.

I still would not want new damp problems caused by a neighbour even in my garage, especially when they did not even ask my permission, let alone get planning permission (should it be required, I don't know) to build a tiny, little box attached to my property.
  • I've now been told by someone else today that because they started work without consent it's a trespassing legal issue.  I am planning to approach them again to point these points across so thanks again.

Why are you letting them do this?  You have every right to physically prevent this happening.

Have you checked on whether your parents have legal cover with their insurance?
  • Is the neighbour doing this as a DIY job, or have they got builders in? Any semi decent builder should know not to do this.
