i bought a Sovereign lawn mower couple years ago but it only lasted a year..the motor seemed to have burnt out..Few months ago i bought a Sovereign strimmer from homebase too...It was only £15 but thats stopped working too..im assuming its the motor again..I googled a bit and found reviews that said DONT buy Sovereign products as they are rubbish..Is it asking too much for a strimmer to last longer than a few months. Ive emailed what seems to be the manufacturer ALM manufacturing asking them if i just stick it in the bin .. I said if i take it back to homebase they will ask me for till receipt and its not homebases fault if Sovereign products are rubbish.. Just had reply from ALM saying they dont make the products and that Sovereign is owned by Homebase

Have you a question? The only one I can see is: "Is it asking too much for a strimmer to last longer than a few months?"The answer to that is "No," because I bought a Honda strimmer/brushcutter in 2009 and it's still going fine, despite hard use. The difference is probably down to the fact that I paid £425, not £15.Cheap tools, like the electric pole saw I bought from Lidl for £50, are sometimes fine for occasional use over a few seasons or perhaps to do one specific job, but once you're down to a retail price of £15 you're in the toy department. There's still no need to behave like a child though, so stick receipts in a box file, even if they come as part of your grocery bill: Lidl honour theirs, mostly for 3 years too.0

Your contract is with Homebase so you need to return it to them.

my original question was sort of saying ..has this happened to anyone else....but i guess £15 is a cheap toy for few months..and not something to treasure for years..0

i was sort of saying..even at £15 its not fit for purpose0

I agree that Homebase are responsible for what they sell, but my point was that you can only hold them responsible if you keep receipts. Lidl go way beyond most sellers by guaranteeing most of their electrical stuff for 3 years, but they require proof of purchase. It's easy to overlook that when it's been mixed-in with the grocery bill.I know my MiL took a faulty kettle back which was only days away from 3 years old and Lidl replaced it without question. That was about £15 new.Strimmers are notorious for going wrong, but unlike kettles, they have moving parts that whizz round at up to 8 or 9000 rpm, so I think it's worth spending more to allow for that.0

You can but sovereign products from Argos too.....
£15 ? What the hell did you expect was going to happen to a piece of junk brand that you paid so little for?
When it comes to tools you need to buy based on how often it is used , if you are using a trimmer every week , it needs to be a decent quality one doesn't need to be top of the range just a decent quality one
Buy cheap tools buy twice0 -
i expected it to last longer than 3 months......they need to put a disclaimer on the box saying...dont expect this product to work for more than a few months0
