     Yes, I know.
    See what others think.

  • I would take the comment of:
The only thing I can guage products by is the rate that we get them returned and after reviewing the past years data, they seem to have a similar faulty return rate as the rest of the range that we sell.
to mean that they think that Sovereign products are no more unreliable than any of the other makes sold by Homebase.
  • which is why ive asked homebase  why are they selling such unreliable  , not fit for purpose products

If that's how you interpret it, then how do you explain the use of the word "they" in their quote?
  • you could even take it as meaning homebase sells lots of different ranges of lots of different products...and they all equally unreliable as customers keep returning them
  • Personally, I've found most strimmers to be unreliable.
I've had a few B&D and Bosch ones that failed fairly early in their life and the only reliable one I've owned is one of these:

I bought it 3 1/2 years ago and it's still going strong and although it's only got a small battery, it lasts a good 20 minutes which is more than ample to do all around a fairly large garden with a few flower beds.

I think you've fundamentally misinterpreted what they've told you. They're telling you that the rate for this brand is no worse than any other that they sell. They're not telling you that everything they sell is terrible and they have lots of returns to deal with [why on earth would they say that to you, even if it was true?].
