In that case make sure you have 999 in your phone in case someone you know starts showing signs of difficulty breathing after contracting the virus.Uxb1 said:

@-rpm-24 .I believe the government are going to announce an extension to the “ I am exempt “
It is a great big badge that says “ I am a selfish B****** and I don’t give a flying squirrel about anything expect my own situation and pleasure “
If it is your position wear it with pride .😊1 -
Which I think is where there while scepticism of masks comes from.
If they were actually that essential and effective it would be law to wear one - no ifs no buts.
Too many “get outs” make the whole process much less effective.
distancing is your best defence - but people seem to thing wearing a mask raises an impenetrable shield around them (clue: it doesn’t)0 -
Plus those masks with the valve to let the air out, by design they do nothing to protect anyone else.ToxicWomble said:Which I think is where there while scepticism of masks comes from.

If they insisted on medical grade it would no doubt impact NHS and care home supplies, hence why they havent.0

That's really the reason face coverings weren't mandated earlier. At the time there was no evidence that a face covering could prevent the spread and while it was known medical grade masks provided protection there was already a shortage of them for those who needed them, so the government telling everyone to wear one would have meant the NHS and care home crisis would have been even worse.bradders1983 said:If they insisted on medical grade it would no doubt impact NHS and care home supplies, hence why they havent.1 -
If you're talking about the dust masks a proper one (and even some of the cheap imitations from China being sold on eBay) has two layers of fabric between the valve and the face with a pocket to insert a filter - making 3 layers in total. The idea isn't to let the air out through the valve, it's to only allow air to enter via the valve when you try to breathe in, meaning the filter then filters out dust particles before the air is breathed in. If a filter isn't inserted then there's still two layers of fabric between the valve and the face which is more protection than a piece of fabric sewn in to a mask (which also meets the requirement.) Boris actually instructed people not to buy dust masks as they are specialist masks which workers need to do their job, so if everyone buys one there's a risk of a shortage.silvercar said:
