Just to add the meter reading submitted on the 25th/09 is not showing up on their database however my readings after that are shown. Apparently GNE think the reading supplied on 25th is not acceptable?

I explained the 6 and 9 difference in an earlier post - 9 is the total ; 6 four times is Rate1 (daytime) - press a fifth time gives R02 (nightTime) ; R01 +R02 gives the total.
It may be that GNE auto reading is taken at a different date to you - they ask me for a reading on the 26th - I ssume you are reading yours on the 30th/31st.
Does anyone know if the 26th is their end of month ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Does anyone know if the 26th is their end of month ?I doubled checked as above and there is only one reading coming up and that reading is lower than the one taken by myself earlier today by 210 units. We only have a single rate and not a dual rate. GNE read the meter about once a week. However I am now thinking that perhaps the meter was not configured correctly when it was changed from E10 to standard rate. Perhaps the meter still thinks it is on E10, but there is no reading for the lower rate hence the difference. If GNE responded to emails it would help as obviously there is an issue with the meter readings. Ovo read the meter correctly for the closing read and it more or less matched my closing read. Obviously GNE used the correct opening read and from that point that is when it all went pear shape. Both reads on 6 & 9 should match up

Is the difference between R01 and Total always a constant value? I would expect it to be and that will be the value of R02 which although it's no longer incrementing or displayed, is still held by the meter from it's E10 days.

Forget pressing key 9 as OVO instructed you to do and use key 6 as you have been instructed to do by GNE, as this is what the DCC is reading with the new updated firmware.Surley you know what the reading was when you switched from OVO to GNE and can check that your billing is correct from switchover from the start reading to present.I believe that it is common for suppliers to ignore customer reading when a smart meter is operational and with some suppliers it is not possible to enter reading online when smart meters are providing reads.0 -

Fair enough comment however why were readings okay with Ovo from 9, but GNE now use the reading from 6? Were Ovo reading my meter incorrectly ever since we switched to standard rate? Why is there a difference between 6 and 9? Surely they should both be the same? I am not sure how to verify which is the correct reading for our consumption. What we do not need is that when switching suppliers we end up with a very high bill due to the meter being under read. Happened previously with Npower who wanted us to pay them nearly £600. We were then stuck with Npower for another year while we paid off the extra.0

The correct reading for your consumption is from button 6.
Thankfully for others in a similar situation in future, we now know the correct energy company and the correct procedure to read GNE secure meters. If it has a keypad (Manufacturer - Secure)
- Press 6 on the keypad four times
- You will see the word ‘IMP R01’
- Your meter reading will follow after
In this example, the meter reading is 23541.
If you have a two-rate (Economy 7) tariff with this meter, to get your reading:
- Press 6 on the keypad four times
- You will see ‘R01’ – this is your night reading
- Press the 6 again until you see ‘R02’ – this is your day reading

Thanks. GNE did a reading on 26th which was 27100 and today's reading is 27190. Shows I am using average 22 units a day. Using my figures over 5 days from 25/09 average is 20.5 units a day so about correct. At no time did GNE inform me that they had reconfigured the metering and it was only when I queried it they mentioned button 6. I was going by the handbook supplied by Ovoenergy who had fitted the metering.

I am not sure how to verify which is the correct reading for our consumption. This has been answered already I think. The meter has programmable registers R01 and R02 (and probably more that have never been used). When the meter was on E10, one register (probably R01) was programmed to count for 14 hours a day, the other (probably R02) for 10 hours a day. The Total register would indicate the total consumption measured by the meter. When you switched away from E10, register R01 was programmed to count for 24 hours a day and register R02 wasn't used any more. All subsequent consumption has been counted by register R01. The Total register continues to measure all consumption and doesn't match R01 because some of the electricity consumed was counted by R02 and not R01.Looking at it another way, if the meter had never been used on E10, registers R01 and Total would be the same. The fact that there are two registers (R01 & Total) in the meter independently counting consumption is irrelevant, provided you always use the same register. If I read what others are saying about GNE correctly, it looks like they're reading register R01. As long as when you switched to GNE your account opened with an R01 reading, everything is good. If the account was opened with the Total reading, and they've subsequently swapped to using R01, then you've gained free electricity amounting to the difference between the R01 register and the Total register (probably equal to the value in register R02 which you can't see any more). So everything is OK and at worst you've gained some free electricity.

So short answer was that Ovo told you how to read the meter wrong and Green Network Energy aren't as muck of a joke as they seemed?1
