Here's my October budget... (tracked with Yolt)
Income: £ 1746
Car Loan: £ -600
Unsecured Loan £ -100
Credit Card £ -324
Savings £ -100
Food £ -150
Petrol £ -150
Bills £ -100
MOT/Service £ -180
Two adults - he pays the household bills and I do the food shopping. Luckily he owns house no mortgage etc. Car loan is unsecured at 21% apr and unsecured loan (previous debt consol) is at 7%. Barclaycard is interest free and I pay balance off in full each month, used for when i forget my bank card, those adhoc purchases and birthday presents. I'm trying to reduce this but i also fall on it when i'm low on other budget areas towards end of the month.
If car fails MOT, repairs will have to come out the emergency fund in my savings.

Hi @alt80 - a couple of comments from me
credit cards - not sure of the exact situation but are you making sure that you throw the money at the highest interest cards first?
beauty treatments - it's an obvious one but I suspect that your wife is wanting to keep them because she's angry at the situation. Hopefully she will come round a bit
groceries - this does seem very high as your wife is at home. I think I remember seeing that she cooks from scratch? My OH and I spend a lot on groceries compared to some budgets as it's our real splash out and we are fortuante enough to be able to afford it at the moment. I have managed on a lot less in the past. We get all our meat from a local organic butcher, so it's not cheap. Plus we get out fruit and veg from an organic veg box scheme so that costs too. We also like treats from the deli next door to the butchers! Our dry goods etc do come from Asda, which offsets some of the cost. Overall though, we still spend less than £300 a month (I can do £200 if I'm being very thrify). I would say that you probably should be about to cut the groceries to at least £400 overall. Perhaps not all on one go, but it's easily doable, even if you're getting things from Waitrose/Ocado. I would have a look at what you're buying and separate food from treats and make them separate budgets. i.e - although wine might go on the shopping list, it's not food!
Also, is your DS not fed by the school or is he having packed lunches?
petrol - this is just discretionary driving? Not sure of your mpg for the RR but we spend about £160-£200 a month which includes my commute (but I have a 1litre Suzuki Vitara!). I'm sure your car must have some driving style algorithms. If you can't cut the milage, can you challenge yourself to drive as economically as possible?
Beauty - yeah probably lol.
Groceries - other stuff 2x bottles of champagne (£42/bottle so not massively expensive lol) bit of wine / beer etc covered in this. We aren't massive drinkers though. Also counts a few Starbucks which can't be expensed etc. so not strictly just food there. Son eats lunch at school.
Petrol - yeah just personal miles. RR does 15mpg sometimes 18 on a run it's the 5.0 litre supercharged V8 so economy not its finest point haha.
@AdsWhoAdds thanks.4 -
Sorry if it wasn't meant to be like that but I took it as being very judgey.ditty1234 said:@alt80 I wasn't trying to compete on low income, I think mine is actually pretty decent. I was just gently trying to indicate why people might find your budget a bit of a cornucopia.
@AdsWhoAdds the catering in my college is doing a great job, I just don't like their food, so it's unfairly easy for me.
@determined_new_ms sounds like a lovely and productive day.
Finally managed a walk at 9 pm, the dog thinks I'm just breaking all the rules, but I love walking in the middle of the street in the evening, and the road is in much better repair than the sidewalk!2 -
Afternoon all,
In good news, ds1 has had a negative covid result
In not so good news, we are going into a local lockdown on Sunday
Today we have..
* made a big batch of chili con carne (used up a pepper that was looking sorry for itself!)
* cooked 2 chickens at once in the oven (gave my folks most of the 2nd chicken) also roasted a dish of peppers, tomatoes and onions to make the most of the oven being on. Blitzed and will have with some pasta and cheese over the weekend
* Used the carcass to make a chicken stock which I will use to make a soup over the weekend.
* Found that we hadn't fixed the leak in the shower but have since found it so grout done and left to set, hopefully tomorrow afternoon we'll be able to check its sorted and put the room back together!
* All together for lunch so it was a fridge dive - we all had a different topping on jacket spud - nice warm lunch on this cold wet day.
* Banking all checked and spreadsheet updated.
Thats about it, I think tonight we'll dig out the scented candles and fleece blankets and watch a film from our stash.
Take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Morning - I'm working today so small things will be at a minimum...
* Hang up yesterday's washing & do another load
* hem two skirts - I am going to be wearing the skirt I made yesterday
* all meals from stores
* go through bags of clothes for charity collection. Currently we have about 5 bigs bags of clothes for charity but due to lockdown charity shops are groaning with stock and not accepting items so these doorstep collections are helpful!
* get chicken out of freezer for dinner tomorrow
* depending on how work is might make a cake with madam
Ok that's all I can think of, better go and jump in the shower and get readyDF as at 30/12/16

Good morning all!
@1LuckyLady - excellent news about DS
We are having a bit of a lull at work at the moment so I took the opportunity to have a week off. You'd think that after having 8 weeks off during lockdown when I was between jobs that I would have gotten to the end of my "to-do" list but nope! Here it is, as long as my arm!
On the plus side, thrown a wash on this morning and the machine seems to be making normal noises again. I did fish two guitar plecs out of the filter baffle (one was actually in the drainage pipe between the drum and the baffle and I had to puggle it out). OH was hilarious when confronted with both this evidence, and two more plecs that were fished from trouser pockets in the washing bin. He sounded like Austin Powers with his Swedish-made enlarger pump - "those aren't mine baby! How did that get in there?!".
He had me in stitches this morning though because he said that maybe Rishi Sunak should put his budget up for us to balance
So what to do today? Well we are in a local lockdown, although to be honest, that doesn't really affect anything that OH and I do. My friends all live quite far away so I don't see them much anyway and OH's friends only meet up for a big drink every few months. The weather is gorgeous so I'm hoping to drag OH out for a walk a bit later. Would be nice to wear thick tights and my 70s felt hat and scuffle through some leaves
Other than that, sock kinitting is on the agenda. I'm so pleased that the second sock is proving to be much faster to work on than the first! I'm hoping to have it finished tomorrow and popped away for Christmas. Then it'll be onto the ghost!
Have a lovely day all

Morning!Sounds good @carrielovesfanta!Today I’m helping my dad at work, I’m hoping I can work off some of the money I owe him for renewal of breakdown cover, it was cheaper to be added to a policy and split it than to both get our own 🤷🏻♀️Then not a lot else! Might do some journaling and start planning Christmas presents!Light bulb moment & debt levels: 01/02/20 £15,140
