joedenise said:Needed to pop our to the Farm Shop to pick up some more potatoes so while I was there decided to pick up some extra veg to batch cook a veg curry - 8 portions ready to be bagged and put in the freezer. Two portions will get used some time this week so another 3 meals worth in the freezer for next month or December, alongside the 3 meals worth of beef stew cooked yesterday.
So another £4.99 spent.
Need to check my YNAB to see how much I have left for rest of the month but it's still over £200.
£227.02 for the rest of the month but hopefully won't need much this week or next although I know I need to buy pasta as only have enough for one meal left but we don't eat pasta very often.
Will need to spend some of the bulk fund probably next week as will need some more coffee beans.

@mumtoomany, thank you for explaining how you manage to feed a large family on £200/month. What type of sheep do you have?
My budget isn’t as tight - and we’ve increased our Grocery Challenge money by £20 recently - but our grocery spend is still less than most people’s. If it helps anyone, back in May’s Grocery Challenge, I set out how we do it. I operate the “pantry principle” and shop to restock, usually not for specific meals. We’re a household of two adults who’d normally take our lunches to work. Our total housekeeping budget is £250, split as follows:-
£140 - General groceries, including meat when bought at the supermarket
£ 40 - Meat fund (spent when we go to the butcher shop)
£ 40 - Bulk fund (for Costco, wine and when we bulk buy)
£ 20 - Christmas food (usually spent on a goose)
£ 10 - Garden Fund (seeds, plants, compost, tools, etc)
We did our first shop of October today. £33.41 spent in L!dl. We stocked up on veg, some ham, mozzarella, rice noodles and egg noodles. Received 9p of coppers in our change, so that’s gone into a money box.Spend for October: £33.50/£140. Leaving £106.50 for the rest of the month.

2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge 66 coupons - 39.5 spent.
4 - Thermal Socks from L!dl
4 - 1 pair "combinations" (Merino wool thermal top & leggings)
6 - Ukraine Forever Tartan Ruana wrap
22 - yarn
1.5 - sports bra
2 - leather wallet7 -
Made 6 portions of a fennel, mushroom and lentil stew in the slow cooker today using up bits from the bottom of the fridge and larder and also had lambs lettuce salads to accompany it for lunch and dinner so I haven't needed to buy any additional ingredients. Am hoping to keep this type of eating up for most of the month, fingers crossed.

Hi all, Could I be put down for £450 please, have increased the budget slightly to allow for half term week and youngest son's birthday.
I've mostly done a meal plan for the month based on the meat/fish available in the freezer, so hopefully that will keep costs down. We've got plenty of bread/rolls in the freezer so will utilise those for lunches. I'm currently eating my way through the tinned soup. Does anyone do anything interesting with tins of spaghetti in tomato sauce, got loads but not keen on it as it is.
We're managing well on 1 main shop and a small top up each week at the moment. Although I need to batch cook tomorrow to use the short dated mince Tosco sent yesterday and will freeze the sausages ( I complained and they refunded me).
