@mumtoomany that looks an amazing haul. Not sure if £2/kg is good for chicken - our little whole one last week was £1.85 for a 1.4kg bird but I guess chicken breasts are more expensive (I usually bet thigh packs as meaty, tasty and easy to freeze). Someone locally sells carrots in nets like that - amazingly they are described as horse food but they are just large carrots - and guess what? Once peeled, chopped and cooked they are just carrots!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Hi Suffolk_lass, yes these are sold as pony carrots. £2.50 for a sack or three for £6, even we can't eat that many before they go off! We buy whole chickens too, and cull our own, but sometimes it's easier/quicker to use the breast fillets. Cooked a whole chicken yesterday in the slowcooker whilst busy all day. Did roast for eight of us last night, with plenty of vegetables, today will be curry and will make a pie with some too. Also boil up the carcass for soup. Chicken breast "bashed" flat and breadcrumbs makes cheap chicken burgers. Mumtoomany.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.4

I might buy chickens when I go - they are so versatile (I wonder if anyone remembers the old rubber chicken thread where the leftovers just keep bouncing into other meals?)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Another £8.95 in Aldi. Last night's turkey stir fry with odds and ends out of the cupboard was stonkingly tasty!
Feel like a genius today for using up 1 portion of yellow sticker salmon trimmings bought on Tuesday (riskin' me life!) in scrambled eggs. Oh the luxury! Some cherry tomatoes and a bit of salad to be posh.
Curses, forgot to buy tea bags. Oh well, only have a million boxes of fruit tea and some decaff as well to get through. Be nice to have a bit of a change. I may go shopping again on Saturday, I may not.
Anyway, so far, so much better this month.
Plan for the rest of the day is a bagel with ham, cream cheese and rocket for lunch and then a basa fillet with some mushy peas @Suffolk_lass it has been a while since I've seen horse carrots for sale. Used to see them at farmers markets when visiting family. I think I'm a bit too in the town. Even if they are a bit rough, they are fab grated for bulking out a spaghetti sauce, or making into pakora.

Forgot to put the total, dog food was included in yesterdays total, (but shouldn't be, working dog, so different budget). Total stands at £81.28/£200. Will go up tomorrow when we collect the pork. Justmum, I only shop about once a week, but tend to visit 4 or 5 shops each time. Mumtoomany.

Had a code for Icyland £5 off £40 so decided to do an online shop which includes free delivery. My total spend was £36.50. I was a bit annoyed because they insist on charging you for carrier bags and don’t give an option to opt out, so that was an unnecessary 50p. But otherwise a decent haul for my £36. I added all the stuff I wanted to the basket and then ruthlessly culled until I got close to the minimum spend for free delivery lol. So that brings my total spend for the month to £106.64 / £150. I still have a few bits to get but I am hoping I will come in budget.Starting Total in September 2019 = £38287.77
Current Total = £25534.10

Starting a bit late this month.
@elsiepac would you be able to put me down for $400 please? I have to restock on a bunch of basics this month like toilet paper, toothpaste, bread, cheese, nuts, meat, etc. Plus my husband is coming to visit at the end of the month for about 5 weeks and I’ll have to get some stuff for him. He’s also vegetarian so will want more things like avocados, and we’ll have to double up on nuts. We haven’t seen each other since last December due to coronavirus causing visa issues, so it’ll be good to be reunited. Also just remembered that he’ll have to quarantine for 2 weeks when he lands here in NYC, so an end of the month stock up is definitely in order. Good luck everyone and I’ll catch up on the thread later today!
