£87 spent on Thursday & yesterday, between W8rose & the market; I'm slightly horrified as that didn't even get us everything I'd hoped for! I wanted a £5 gammon joint (they're very good) but the stallholder hadn't been able to get his hands on any this week & I didn't fancy spending £12 for a similar one at the supermarket. I may still have one in the old freezer... which reminds me, I can switch the new one on now, and start transferring some of the stuff over tomorrow. (The old one is becoming a grain & flour store, though I'll run them both for a little while. Only "new" stuff will get transferred over.) So - just under £200 left, and quite a lot of stuff in the old freezer to use up, plus starting to stock the new one.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4

Hi Everyone, long time no see!
I'm going to casually throw myself in here with my £80 per week budget... I actually started last week when I realised that we had reached an average of over £100pw
It's not a case of needing to cut back really, but given that I have come from a place of having £20 a week to feed us, I cannot allow myself to spend that much! Anyway, I have a huge stock of healthy stuff and I want to get to using it, instead of relying on convenience options.
This morning I have started some bread rolls for everyone's weekly packed lunches (currently proving), and setting to with making some flapjacks/brownies etc for snacks... because packed lunches can get ridiculously expensive when you need to source (vegan) snack bars for 3 people! I'm also going to make some carrot & coriander soup (with some red lentils thrown in for protein) for my lunches, as I work from home and am quite easy to please
Oh and I've spent £5 yesterday (chippy tea as a treat) as my budget starts on a Saturday. So we have £75 left.
Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday

Will have to look out for those frozen sprout, chestnut and bacon when I'm next in Lidl. We eat a lot of sprouts anyway but absolutely love them with chestnut and bacon.

I ended up working all weekend, and too tired to cook. Was so tempted today to go and get a load of ready meals.
Finally persuaded myself to throw some spuds peppers and onions in the slow cooker with some tomatoes with a tin of beans, which will be some kind of lunch, I think. I'm also soaking some pinto beans so I can boil them up for refried beans, I have wraps and salsa in the pantry. And I made a small chia choc pudding. So not a huge cooking day, very low effort. But avoided extra spending.
Urk. I hate effort.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24006 -
Morning all, checking in for spends yesterday, big weekly shop totalled £63.54p... so that's £11.46p left and I really don't need to buy anything else. The plan is to keep hold of any extra, for the weeks where you inevitably need to stock up on something, like cleaning stuff that you don't buy every week.
Menu plan for the week looks like this:Pumpkin pesto tart Roast pepper & Chickpea cous cous Cottage Pie Sweet Potato burgers Tofu Katsu Curry HM Pizza
I've fallen out of the habit of cooking from scratch recently, so it's nice to have something different planned, and that's actually inspiring me to cook
I have made a batch of soup for my lunches as planned, and also made hummus for the kids and husband. I used to make it all the time, but recently we have been spending a lot on premade, but this homemade batch is amazing! It can go with the HM buns and HM treats that I made
Have a great day everyoneDebt Free Journey started 21.05.20174 -
Right so my final shop for the month this past weekend and I have come in slighter under budget £149.74 / £150. So very pleased with myself as usually I just exceed the budget. This is the first time ever I have stuck to spending what I said I would. I will not be going to the shops again for the rest of the month, and will have to make the food last come what may.Starting Total in September 2019 = £38287.77
Current Total = £25534.10

Well we collected the pork on friday, so now have both freezers full again. Did well sorting the freezers for this, didn'tdo so well on sorting the budget! Cost to slaughter, butcher and vacpack 2 pigs, £150. Worth it to know we are eating meat that had a happy life. So spends so far £231.28/£200. Now to try not to go much further over for the rest of the month. Mumtoomany.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.4
