Now that this account has been highlighted as a top account in the weekly MSE e-mail, I can't see it lasting long. Let's hope, in the event that they do withdraw it, that they do a Marcus - existing accounts continue, no new applications.

Not mentioned in SaversFriend's weekly e-mail today.
  • First time I've banked with Skipton and I must say it was very easy indeed.✔

Made a deposit of £1 just to make sure everything is ok ( transaction is now showing)✔

I've also downloaded the app and now waiting for details in the post.😉

I opened an account in 5 minutes and immediately moved the money from Halifax, Natwest and Santander savings accounts which have all 'under the radar' diminished from 2-3% a year ago down to fractions of that. It's still minimising my loss, but I will need easy access to the cash sometime in the next 12 months.
Hey, I'm new to all of this, and haven't moved my ISA for years, so just wanted some advice. I've just opened this new Skipton Savings account (as the interest rate is better than my measly Halifax ISA 0.05%!) and would like to transfer my full Halifax ISA amount to this Skipton savings account. Do I need to do an official ISA transfer via Halifax and have this account closed, or can I just simply transfer out all the money in it to this Skipton account without having to do anything official? Just wondering whether there was a sensible way of doing it? i.e. will I lose out or be charged if I don't officially close the ISA? Many thanks for the help :-)

You are free to withdraw all your money from your ISA and then deposit it to wherever you want.

If, however, you want to keep your ISA wrapper, you'd have to find an ISA to transfer to, and ask the new ISA provider to transfer the money for you. The Skipton account is not an ISA.

Opened 2 accounts this morning. Straight forward. Can’t remember the last time I opened accounts that didn’t ask for Nat.Ins numbers. Transferred a small test amount by debit card and it shows in the account instantly;...however, as stated up-thread, payments made by debit card will only start to earn interest from the third working day after you have paid in,  which is a tad disappointing. I know NS&I get some stick about how they run certain aspects of their accounts but they do pay immediate interest on debit card deposits.

I hope Skipton’s  mobile App works consistently better than Al Rayan’s!;...Al Rayan’s app has let me down far too often at crucial times.

Is it necessary to have the App to operate this account?

I guessed answer would be No, so as to guarantee correct answer as opposed to apparent wrong answer given by someone else I asked Skipton on Facebook "we can send an alternative called a Grid Card which is an offline second factor authentication. Is this something that would be of interest"

I've internal messaged them to send me a grid card. Today's FP got there quickly enough. Received e-mail confirmation as well.
Very happy with them so far  :)

I have a mobile phone, but it is not a smartphone, so I cannot download an app. Is this going to be a problem?
