I hope they're feeling better now. There are some nasty bugs going the rounds.
Sleeping when they are sleeping is probably the best thing you could do.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Hope everyone is feeling better now.
And well done for being the husband and father figure and looking after them when they needed you too.
Hope you are taking some time to look after yourself as well.5 -
Day 222
Had to laugh at todays calendar ' switch off all your tech at least an hour before bedtime' - managed that for the last few days apart from yesterday although did get a decent night's sleep last night. Will give it a go.
Interesting to read how we all buy cars. My more sane purchases I tend to keep a while and I get value from. Appreciate it's probably not a lot of people's on here idea of value but something I've had to consider is what is value to me - I don't think there is any right or wrong answer to that tbh whilst I understand some of you on here live lives that are a lot more modest than mine, rightly or wrongly I still like to enjoy an element of lifestyle.
@Cherryfudge they are ok now. Tbh I was absolutely whacked haven't been sleeping that well anyway without them being ill probably needed it.
@RelievedSheff I needed to step up mate. Years gone by I'd have somehow got her to her parents' and used it as an excuse not that I needed one really. 100% I would've spent a significant sum of money on a gift for my wife like that made up for anything. I don't like how I've chosen to live my life and the way I've treated my family. I'm not going to say I'm some saint and it didn't cross my mind because it did but I did the right thing by them for once in my life. Tbh I've used the fact I earn well to excuse behaviour that can't be.6 -

When I did my massive read of your diary (no hardship, apart from having to learn the language of your financial world and look up a lot of abbreviations! If you publish a book, please could you include a glossary?)... when I read your diary I was often struck by the way you talk about yourself, but surely that is increasingly how the 'old Alt' talked about himself, and the Alt you are today is almost like a new generation who deserves a fresh start? Your 'old self' is still posting suggestions but there's a whole other self who says the right thing is to look after your loved ones even if it's at physical cost to yourself.
For much of the last year you've been this new person. Would it help to say the old you was someone else and, while you can look back and decide not to act the same way as they did, the 'you' that you are now is not the same person and makes different choices?
(Hope that makes sense, I'm down with a lurgy myself so not at peak writing ability!)I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Glad they're feeling better and you felt able to look after them. Cherry is right in what she says, the old Alt belongs to the past, you are now the new improved version of Alt. You've learned from past mistakes and using that experience to be a better person.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

I've found I have to strictly follow a set wind down routine, otherwise I find it takes hours to drift off and I don't get enough sleep.
For me that's turn off the tablet no later than 10:30, last check of mobile, watch a few episodes of something on tv (catch up not live), possibly a little youtube as well.
Then when I'm all warm and sleepy (usually before 1am) I turn off tv using phone (smart plug), drift off quite quickly and sleep well all night, waking naturally around 8:30\9.
Definitely learned all that the hard way!1 -
