  • Happy New Year Alt you should be so proud of how far you have come in your recovery journey.  I have always enjoyed when you have put the daily quote from the happiness calendar in your post (hint hint!!) All the very best for 2022.

    Day 212

Thanks all, sorry I’ve not responded to messages properly I’m totally whacked. Have been out for a walk, dog !!!!!! crazy as ever. Not managed to do much else apart from let my Mrs half kill me in the home gym apparently that is ‘good for me’ fml I can hardly move and son thinks it’s hilarious. The energy that girl has is !!!!!! unreal anyway I should quit the moaning, clearly not down on my list of new year’s resolutions lol.

I have again been thinking about putting this diary to bed and starting a new one for the new year ha. Have started journaling, not really a new year’s resolution either as I started back end of December and also it was something I did when I started with my recovery properly. I am going to think over the next few days of habits I can hopefully start to develop to work on the stress levels and avoid getting into destructive patterns. I am hoping 2022 will be a time to consolidate. Right now I cannot see myself planning anything that requires much in the way of risk or effort beyond the usual; I’m just too whacked to do much else than work on my recovery, family time and consolidate the gains made in business over the last year. I have to keep reminding myself things ARE getting better and my family is much happier. Tbh might start putting some bullet point targets / achievements on here - did this a little bit when I started this diary and also something I do as part of the journaling but from time to time I am finding it a little difficult to write on here after some of the things I have written on here in the past - what’s gone is gone ultimately ha and I’m very grateful and thankful for the advice I’ve received on here, do want to keep posting. I think the different perspectives are good for me to hear whether I agree or not.

Just for @Four_Seasons today’s calendar activity was ‘find three things to look forward to this year’. Mine have been 1. The evenings getting lighter and days getting longer. Has been on my mind a fair bit recently haha 2. Making a recommitment to my wife who has propped me up throughout the last year even if she does get !!!!!! off with me from time to time lol. 3. Getting the team back together again this coming week. There was also a quote shared on there: ‘Here’s to seeking out joy in the waiting, beauty in the ordinary and hope in unexpected places’. Had to laugh at the first one - joy in the waiting haha fml I’m no good at that, something to aim for lol. Beauty in the ordinary, as I am trying to include some practice of mindfulness in my day-to-day routine (not a lot just 10 mins one, haven’t gone full hippie yet ha) and also have a technique from pros to help deal with the anger / anxiety noting five things your senses notices at that moment in time, I’m starting to get the second one and the third hope in unexpected places first thing that came to my mind was being on here.

  • Thank you very much appreciated.

Your choice about the diary - people usually put a link to the new one, but some just kick out a new one and see who salutes it.

I did one for a year then set off on a one I intended to hold for longer, which is now 2 years out of 5 - but your last year was transitional and I think a fresh start narrative wise is a good plan - your call what you plan for it
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

@Four_Seasons I could make it a regular instalment ha.

@mark55man I did have a ‘new’ diary but least said the better about that tbh as for what I plan I’ve no !!!!!! doubt it’ll decent into random rants/ whinges sort of thing my Mrs will tell me she’s not listening too haha.

@RelievedSheff fml that’s a bit of a scary post … I’d be worried you’ll be turning up on my doorstep if I didn’t know you were literally stuck in a field in the middle of !!!!!! nowhere ha seriously if I do I’ll post a link.

I’m actually heading to bed now lol, early but I’m stupidly tired so better to just switch all the lights off and put my book on, hopefully get to sleep early.
  • That would be lovely!

Up early today. Went to bed early as planned woke up at 5am no alarm, been trying to get back to sleep but given up. Always happens if I go to bed before midnight so maybe I do need to accept that’s my natural wake up time and just start going to bed earlier ha. Cal today is make time today to do something kind to yourself. Sounds mad but I think that’s going to be coming to bed at a reasonable time again or I’m going to be back on the can’t sleep cycle and the merry go round starts all over again.

Goals for today aren’t too strenuous:
    10k steps
Some form of exercise other than walking (still recovering from yesterday ha)
Write priority list for coming week
