Day 97. Good day on the work front - busy. Wife had her hair done and we went for lunch together quite nice really but she is a !!!!!! liability where the spending is concerned. Never really thought she was a problem tbh until I stopped buying she’d point something out I’d buy it way back when or if she bought I didn’t pay any attention but we’re another £110 down the !!!!!! drain today on a silver Balmain hairbrush the hairdresser told her about on lookfantastic and wife had to !!!!!! buy it whilst having her hair done. Reckon the £ pocket money per year for the Mrs is the way forward fml. Had the how many sets of nails chat response I get is not like we’re doing so badly she can’t buy a hairbrush fml have to laugh, keep things positive but it does annoy me. She can’t see it’s not even about the hairbrush just it keeps !!!!!! happening when agreed not to, it’s £110 I get it not a fortune but a lot for a hairbrush imo convinced she thinks she’s got some !!!!!! magic money tree and this !!!!!! she buys doesn’t need to be paid for or something idk.Possibly being on here thinking about the spending but it all just seems really unnecessary sometimes.4

£110 hairbrush shocking
Ask her how much better that can make her look that using the dog brush.......
Had to laugh at the other half this week wandering round the shops in Liverpool she left a Berghaus jacket somewhere(I was in the pub waiting).
Did a back track to try to find it, nothing.
£1 from a charity shop so not a big loss.

With property to live in the real skill is finding something that fits your needs better than the one you have that is cheaper(or just much better value)
Being an insider that should be you using your experience to spot the hidden gems.
Does not have to be like the old days of living in a building site you have the resources to buy/fix/move.

Maybe do ask your wife about the magic money tree, ask her how she wants to manage her spending best, accepting that the right solution isn't for you to "just earn some more money" to cover her spending?
This might take you both some time but you and she are doing a lot of growing so hopefully you can find a solution together in time.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.1 -
£110 ? Does it come with a person attached to it ? I was muttering about having to pay £5 for one at center parcs when I realised I’d forgotten mine

I think it is the poor value for money you now get when it comes to your wife's spending that troubles you unsurprisingly. She is incredibly susceptible to people suggesting she needs this or that and she must be an advertisers dream. The hairdresser is no doubt on commission for how many hairbrushes she can sell and she probably knows your wife and how gullible she is. The only reason they can justify that amount for a hairbrush is because of the Balmain name.
The thing is though until there are consequences for her overspending she will carry on doing it. I have said before give her her own account and all personal spending comes out of there then she has to learn to manage her own money. Just make sure there is no overdraft attached. Or a pre loaded card. If she acts like a child then treat her like one. I bet your FIL wont be impressed with her spending that much on a hairbrush.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Wow. That’s an impressive hairbrush price. Didn’t even know they did hairbrushes that cost that much.Think she really does have as big an issue as you did. She’s still in denial though. Hopefully you can sort the budget. Your wife really is a sales dream.September 2017 Debt = £25330

Is that the Silver brush set? Less than 30 seconds on Google I found it for £88, which I think is also a ridiculous amount to pay for a hair brush!!
These impulse buys that aren't planned aren't budgeted for are not even the cheapest available, if she's insistent on these purchases and you are going to let her then having the decency to shop aroun for the best price is the least she can do.
Personally with me being the only breadwinner I'd be telling my Husband to get a job for such frivolity.
For all this online shopping do you use Quidco or the like?
