Not getting old, just more of an understanding of where you're at in life.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2

The weather is rubbish today.
I'm hoping that we get a break in the weather at about 5.45pm. We forgot to fill the water tank up on the van last weekend so need to do that before we can go out and I can't get the hose in where it is parked on the drive. Guess it will be me standing in the pouring rain while it fills up and the other half gets a shower
You know the car makes financial sense even if it isn't exactly what you wanted to own. Just think of all the money it will free up each month.1 -
@MovingForwards ha yeah that’s a better way of thinking about it.@RelievedSheff fml downsides of the van life ha.Can’t really get excited about the money it’ll free up tbh mate all that’s going towards is clearing my credit cards in the short term. Ultimately idk if it’s the right thing or not but it’s done now. In less than a year I’m down from a Supercharged RR, 440i and a Supercharged F-type to the Range Rover and a !!!!!! milk float. 😢2

Don't forget they have Haddock F&C in Scotland
Been raining all day here, going out for a bit of different air.
The water butt is full again used in the greenhouse
Just hope the promise of it clearing up a bit next week happens we are on a mini trip and like to doo outdoor stuff in the day.
I had a look at EQC lease options with only ~£100pm difference in models my guess is you have gone for the AMG premium plus1 -
Short-term pain for long-term gain.
Took me 3.5 years to clear my debt, it was more than I earned in a year. At the same time I was saving to buy my own home and trying to replace things I left behind as I couldn't fit everything in my classic. Occasionally I think about wearing something or using something in the kitchen, look for it and realise it's what I didn't bring up with me, making a mental note to think about buying a replacement; as yet I never have.
If there's other things I want, I look it up and put it to one side. Do I need it, do I have something similar, how many hours do I have to work to pay for it. Eventually I tend to ignore it and move on to the next item, repeating the process. Sometimes I do buy it, but only after careful thought, then I off-load something in swap.
Stop looking for the unicorn and accept sometimes practical comes above style.
People who really matter don't care how much you earn, where you shop or live, they don't even care what you drive. Take off the mask, learn to be a bit more humble and a lot less flash, everything else will fall into place.

@getmore4less ha yes they do. Had fish and chips twice this month need to wind that in. We’ve got a very good chippy locally so it’s always tempting.
You and me both mate re trips away end of next week I’m taking the family to York for a couple of nights I’ll !!!!!! guarantee it’ll be awful weather. It’s the premium plus yeah. Well appointed car and it’s fast too tbf no soul though. Sure there won’t be anything wrong with it for the time I have it. Wife’s on I should use it for work got a point tbf just don’t like the thing lol.@MovingForwards sounds like you’ve done very well. I know I could clear my personal debts quicker than I plan to if I really needed/ wanted. Said before not like I never plan to use a credit card again just want to think it through a bit similar to what you’re saying really. Will be nice to not have the current lot that I’m still paying for move on iyswim.I’m not going to stop liking nice things or buying them I don’t think I’ll become someone who couldn’t care less tbh where I live/ what I drive is important to me and I do like to be well presented. Not to say I don’t get what you’re saying - put some more thought in before getting the wallet out ha.2 -
As you've said before @alt80 once you've cleared your debt you'll have plenty of money for most of the things you want. It's not about never having them, it's about whether they are affordable and right now they aren't. Stick with your repayments, you're making great progress and every payment is closer to debt free.Bottom line;
£49k paid off
Car HP paid off
Debt Free!
Saved Escape fund and moved out.
Current focus; saving Emergency fund3 -
I'm doing ok now, my books balance quite nicely each payday, I have some nice food treats each month, savings and pension are going up mortgage is going down. Every penny I earn is accounted for, I've plans for the future and goals to get to it. It's not an all or nothing life, each step is a success and achievement.
If you build up some savings, owing an equal amount isn't so scary. We all know you won't ever not have something on finance, it's just getting the right balance so you don't feel you're sinking.
It's also about valuing what you have, not getting that and chasing the next thing. Savouring the moment, not thinking about the next straight away.
You're definitely changing, but for the better. Keep listening and you will find a way to relate to them.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
@Kakiste yeah big one is getting my car paid for fml feels like a burden that thing does right now ha. Will be nice to just cross out the current personal debt tbh need to put the plans I've written down into action. Wife got £640 for a bag today. That's total sales in the last few days of £940 past few days. Should be coming off balances but this month just puts us where we would be be had she and I not spent money on more stupid stuff. Not even moaning about it just that realisation we both need to grow the !!!!!! up and move on ourselves.5

@MovingForwards sounds like you're in a good place.
I get where you're coming from re the personal savings thing but I do stick by keeping money in the ltds move it about, they keep working/ investing essentially and generate their own revenues only release what I need to me personally rest generates further growth/ income. What I'm saying is I don't need a load of personal savings that I've paid a fortune to get out of the company in the first place but I need to reassess my attitude to personal spending. Tbh I get to the point that I find I'm not fully using my income I'll pay myself less and keep the surplus in the ltds. So some things people say on here I only get from the angle of if I was working for a company on a PAYE basis iyswiacf.
Re valuing what I have - agreed there tbh would be a lot happier if not always looking for the next thing constantly as you say.2
