alt80 said:Possibly am getting a bit too angry about it tbf. Weather is perfect for a run out in the f-type today. I’m missing it badly tbh wish I’d kept it got rid of the BMW at the first opportunity instead though would have had the balloon to find for the f-type even sooner, wouldn’t have worked.
You threw all your future choices out the window when you got the current RR.

Yet on another thread Tesla's are being touted as a showy car.
Is the "I'm a car guy" much different to your wife being a "Balmain girl"? Either way it's all wants not needs. Making sensible decisions on your route out of debt is paving the way to a wealthier more sustainable you, where you can have your weekend car.
Remember the title of your thread, First Steps to Solvency - it's a journey to better things.
An observation, if you dismiss your wife's more sensible ideas but react to her unwise spending sprees, which is she more likely to do to gain your attention? Allowing your wife to contribute her ideas and wishes into major purchases and having them listened to and considered may well be the route to getting her on more on board with the finances overall.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

@ladyholly I’m not going to knock MX5s, they’re meant to drive really well. I like my sports cars so have some respect for them tbf.
@RelievedSheff I don’t know what a Range Rover has ever done to you lol but I’m a ‘genuine car person’ and I love my Range Rovers. Tbh don’t see why you think a gen car person wouldn’t have a RR in their fleet.I would like to have a second car I can drive too. Not sure what the problem is with that. I don’t like the idea of an electric car - I think it’s probably soulless. So yeah I’m resisting it personally.
@getmore4less lol very funny I’m not renting my car thanks I fully intend to pay for it in full.As for the Range true tbf it wasn’t properly thought through tbh would have waited a bit had I the hindsight.@annabanana82 don’t get with the Tesla’s I really have a particular hate for them ha.Iswyacf re wife at least I’ve earned what I buy but yeah it’s not really that much different. In a bad mood about it because the weather is perfect to get my f-type out tbh. Hopefully be a bit better tomorrow. Not gonna lie all logic out the window when what’s on my drive is on the table. Had a bit of a fall out with my wife over it. Getting to the point I’m thinking about telling her to forget it and keep the BMW but the whole point of this is to have a better future just hate my cars have to come into it. !!!!!! devastated I’m probably forgetting an AM and my mate is going to be picking one up in weeks. Can’t change feeling like !!!!!! about it tbh.0 -
You could have had an AM but chose the RR instead for reasons only known to you.
You have made those choices now you have to pay for them.0 -
Why is what you have on the drive so important to you? Do you really think anyone else cares? Something to explore with your counsellor perhaps.Surely having a car that is appropriate for the family is the most impotant thing. Like I said if your son wants to play with his mate and take his bike are you going to allow a muddy bike in your RR. You need a practical car as afamily man. When I got married we always had a sports car but as soon as my daughter was born it became impractical so we got a sensible family car. When she left home we went back to the sports car until we had dogs when we had to have a more sensible car again. Most people buy the car for the stage of their life they are at. You have the RR but is it the sensible car that you can load a muddy dog, bike or child into. Only you can decide but if it isnt the sensible family car that you can have a picnic in or the aforementioned muddy dog then a fun car is not really an option at this time. You have some thinking to do and decisions to make.

@RelievedSheff no I couldn’t have bought an AM at the time I bought the RR. I bought the RR to replace my RRS which was my main work/ family car. I suppose I could have used the BMW as my main work/ family car but it’s not 100% ideal and I couldn’t have made the deposit needed for an AM without loading more cards. Anyway I had the f-type which I didn’t think would be gone, it’s now gone the sun is coming out and the nights are lighter again. I appreciate you don’t get it but I enjoy getting out in my car and I’m quite bitter about the fact I’ve not got a sports/ GT car tbt especially when the weather has been nice and the season is just around the corner. I can’t really justify !!!!!! the BMW off and buying a used AM as much as I want to similar payments and an average £4k/a to maintain it (done my research and that seems about average) isn’t going to really help me right now. Is it really such a problem I like going for a drive and to the odd car event really? FML it’s you always saying need to live a little, strike a balance.
@ladyholly I enjoy driving nothing more to it really not sure why having an interest in something that’s not doing anyone (including myself) any harm = needing counselling for it. I don’t need my head looking at for liking cars. From what you’ve said your husband likes cars, told him to get therapy for that have you? FML am I not allowed to have any fun in my life anymore? Funny one minute you’re saying I need to live a little book a !!!!!! holiday or whatever. I’d rather never see the sea again if I had an AM instead. Not sure what it is with people on here - Nice car = !!!!!! mentalist but spend all the !!!!!! money you like on sitting on a beach or walking round some unfamiliar city, yeah that’s fine.
I have the best car (Bentayga aside) that money can buy for a family car. I don’t have bikes in my car or on one of those racks and wouldn’t in or on any car I own. Not happening. The dog does travel in my car, I’ve got a mat for him and if he goes in the car it is properly cleaned down the same day. As for picnics - it’s a FFRR so got the 2 piece tailgate, it’s !!!!!! picnic heaven.
Not sure what thinking/ decisions I need to make tbh.0 -
You need a proper family car.
The RR is not one if the wife has to clean it every time you go out as a family.
Edit
Your next choice determines how long before you get an AM
It's not looking good1 -
Feeling upset you can't have everything you want just now isn't unusual - but don't let that take over your life and don't make decisions with long term consequences on emotions and neglect to work through all the financial and practical consequences. Most people have to do or not do plenty of things they don't really want to (eg go to work!). Concentrate on reminding yourself of the good you do have.Have you driven any/many electric cars? If not, I suggest once things open up you take a couple for a test drive - may confirm you don't like them and give you a clearer idea exactly why and what you hope the next generations will have, may give you something slightly different to talk about. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I've had a long day so am going to be short.
Most of the time these days you sound really level headed but when you get on cars you sound like the world's oldest spoilt brat . A real 'car guy' would not mock everyone elses choices - thats what a car snob does.
That RR might be your ego in car form, but it was an expensive mistake if we're truthful and its going to take a lot of payback. It impacts your other choices for quite a while.
Its probably time to change the subject as well as this won't be doing you any good whatsoever

I meant counselling for continually worrying about what others think not for enjoying driving. At the end of the day you can do exactly what you want but will you also listen to what your wife wants.2
