First Steps to Solvency

We went to Corfu in October a few years ago and the weather was brilliant. We usually go to Lanzarote in October and it’s just like a summer holiday, hot and sunny. I’m not booking anything until it’s safe to do so though.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

I agree with others that seeing parents while possible is a great option, I understand times are still uncertain so be careful when booking but there is no reason to not look forward to a time post covid. I know there are still some doubts, that was going to be natural but it seems we are on the upward trajectory now and spring just round the corner
I think your son and parents would appreciate the time together too, life is way to short to live with regrets.

We had our honeymoon in Feb the weather was quite good though there was snow on distant mountains and I definately needed a coat. Yeahi know who gets married in Feb but there were good reasons for it. You do need to see your parents even if you leave it until October. The thing to remeber it isnt just what Boris is saying it is also whether Greece will allow people from the UK but while covid wont be gone I think things may well be a lot easier by then. If you dont want to book yet keep it on the back burner but I believe flights and holidays are booking up fast.

Being on the stuff has had you messed up for so long you don't know what you really want or even like.
It has been telling your head you can't go away for more than a week because that is what stuff like that does it likes to keep you close.
This is not just for you its for you kid and parents as well, could go out on a limb and have sis come too.
Weather is less important its not a beach holiday its a family one could even consider it is their turn to have you at Xmas/NY your place is all but shut then anyway and you have time off kid has 2 weeks off school(unless they do catch up schooling)
I would not be booking anything now but it should be in the plans and potential dates picked out for when it is clear it can happen

I think given you have had substance abuse problems in the past this has really messed up your head and now you are thinking clearly this will influence other things in your life like holidays, time off etc etc. Given you have not seen your parents for a long time and you could really do with a cheap holiday this year then Greece seems to be a great option. It will be good for you to be completely clean then and you can really enjoy a break even if just a week and have some quality family time. I would urge caution re seeing your druggie mate when things open up again as it seems like he is a really bad influence on you. You need to put yourself and your family first while you are still fighting the urges. He does not seem entirely sympathetic to your wish to keep clean so it is better to avoid him.
We have rearranged our cottage holiday from April to August and has cost us an arm and a leg though given that is the most expensive time and you may well find flights may be a bit pricey in the summer so maybe October would be better but perhaps wait and see how things progress over the next few months as more things open up. We are due to fly to Canada in September (rearranged from 2020) but not sure that will go ahead and won't pay the balance until June/July when we are more confident we can fly and not have to worry about quarantine and hopefully be vaccinated by then. Our June Centre Parcs holiday is still due to go ahead so looks like we will have a holiday a month from June to October which may be a bit much even for me given the Canada one is a month long if it goes ahead.
Hopefully you should be vaccinated by July as Bojo reckons all adults will be done by then. My normally fit and healthy 69 year old husband, an active, non smoking, allotment holding busy person is currently in ITU following a totally out of the blue cardiac arrest caused by previously unknown irregularities in his heartbeat. He literally died next to me, I kept chest compressions going with the help of the 999 responder. The ambulance people were terrific, here within 9 minutes, shocked him 4 times and kept him alive. He’s off the ventilator now, just a week later and thanks to the brilliant hospital staff he’s making progress. But life is on a knife edge. I’m so glad our daughter sees her dad regularly. Book that trip.Downshifted

Know where people are coming from re me not even knowing what I want or like. Spent best part of 2 decades wasting my free time on the chang, not even just nights out, lot of it sat at my comm office past 5 or so years. Not had an amazing few days since BoJos announcement knew he’d have to open the country at some point but things been ok past couple of weeks. Better than in a long long time tbt. Had the counselling today told them I’m def keeping with it but really concerned for the future. Even considered not having the jab just to ban myself from anywhere that wants a vaccine passport keep to the work and home life only, keep wearing the mask etc. but yeah know refusing a covid jab to keep me out of a pub or shop is stupid.
I fear the family life is going to kill my will to be successful in business some day but know the other way wasn’t helping either so catch 22 there.
So far as keeping away from destructive stuff goes, not touched the obvious or drink but the driving like a !!!!!! was back full force today first time for a while I’ve wanted to drive like that. People on here probably right about keep to the Range for the time being it’s a more relaxed drive and tbh I’m getting a bit too old for getting provoked into drag races with a kid in a hot hatch lol.
Wife bangs on about spending enough without people telling me to spend on here too (antithesis of the aim of money saving haha) yeah going to see my parents is budgeted for but tbh was hoping to avoid any time away and use the £3k in the budget for holidays/ family days out etc to make an overpayment on my cards at the end of the year. Gets me a bit closer and sticking with the saving money/ stop spending mindset too just because the money is there don’t need to spend it. Wish the wife would cut the budget too and make more overpayments to debt but 100% no chance of that she’ll probably spend every last penny of her allocated clothes/ present etc and son’s too. I don’t want to spend on BS anymore.
@downshifted I’m sorry to hear about your husband but glad he is recovering hopefully will be back home soon.

I think getting away on a holiday will be far better for you in the long run than throwing money at the credit cards.4
