not allowed to sell fresh yeast!

Hi there,
I went to Tesco's in Halifax today and they gave me a HUGE chunk of yeast again. They are clearly still giving it out here so unless they are phasing it out gradually across their stores its either a mistake by the member of staff who spoke to you or they are being annoyingly random about where they give it and where they don't. It might be worth asking again though as when I lived in Hull I used to get it regularly and I was then told they didn't give it away...it was just an error by the person who I asked that day. They still carried on giving it out.
HTH and good luck with it.

I shop at ASDA in Wakefield,West Yorkshire and they havent given it away for ages. I have asked a couple of times and both times I was told that they dont give yeast away :eek:0

I've just been given a huge block free from my local bakers.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0

why do they give it away free, why not sell it, fresh yeast is not something im familiar with at all, really confussed here0

Glad it does not seem to be a national thing. I think I'll write to HO see if they have an official stance.0 -
Went into 2 ASDA shops over the weekend to get some frsh yeast, was told in both of them that they couldn't give out yeast anymore....... the reason given was that there had been complaints that it wasn't package professinally and didn't contain a list of ingredients etc....
Anyone else come across this0 -
I managed to get some in Tesco on Saturday. First time I've ever asked and they were fine about it. They gave me enough for making 8 loaves of bread so i've no excuse now and have to make my first ever loaf of homemade bread.MS Stalwart. They're having a laugh, surely?
My local ASDA are fine about it.
I can't believe that somebody getting fresh yeast (and ours is wrapped in the same material they wrap the bread in AND sealed) can complain about either the packaging or the ingredients list...Item 1:- fresh yeastSomebody is pulling a "Jobsworth". Most likely their own H&S department.
Item 2:- there is no item 2
