You're perfectly entitled to your opinion of course. I totally disagree; but that's the beauty of a democracy - we are entitled to our opinion. I never once said any of the above, you're maybe over-thinking your own decision. Fine by me but I'll keep accepting free money as long as it lasts - after all, in the old days the main banks more than had their fair share from me. Now it's my turn to get something back that I'm in a position to not need them. Lovelygsmh said:
I think that's the problem. Free money. I'd feel decidedly uncomfortable if I had no intention of using the account as my daily account. Arguing that the banks are immoral, that the T&Cs allow it, that you need the money, that NatWest/RBS is already owned by us, that I'm stupid for having a moral compass, that my moral compass is defective or that morality doesn't come into it just doesn't help.funkycredit said:
Indeed. It's a painless process and free £100 is still free money. 👏colsten said:I am amazed how little apparent interest there seems to be in this offer.

I think that's the crux of it. If I believe something is wrong, like the banks fleecing me of money years ago, I can't then do the same thing, albeit on a smaller scale. What is wrong is wrong, end of.funkycredit said:after all, in the old days the main banks more than had their fair share from me. Are you suggesting that anyone opening this account for the £100 is wrong to do this if they are not going to use the account?gsmh said:

I assume this is not the case, but then what is the purpose of your two posts here?

Different eras, clearly! I was brought up with the belief that it's a dog-eat-dog world so to look after number one first. Therefore, regardless of your beliefs, I'm happy talking free money from the same banks that I've helped to prop-up; as have millions of others.gsmh said:

Don't you think those with different opinions than yours should be allowed to contribute to a thread? Colsten expressed surprise that there was not more interest in the offer. I responded to that post suggesting a possible reason. Why would I need to justify my posts to you? I absolutely believe it is morally wrong to open the account, take the reward and not use it. I absolutely refute the dog-eat-dog paradigm. My point of view is as valid as yours and you have no right to question how I contribute to discussions here. This forum is not 'Free Money', it has a much wider remit.RG2015 said:Are you suggesting that anyone opening this account for the £100 is wrong to do this if they are not going to use the account?

I accept your opinion that you think that it is wrong.
I just wanted to clarify whether you believe that people who switch for the £100 and nothing else are wrong to do this.4 -
Hilarious as ever. 'What is the purpose of your two posts here?' made me see red, it was apparent to me my right to post was being questioned. I am rather defensive because my distaste of the pursuit of free money is always roundly attacked by the same few large-scale posters, as are any posts I make about ethical banking. I appear to be in a minority of one and I find that very worrying indeed.IanManc said:Stating on a thread, in terms, that you have a right to post your opinion but telling others they have "no right" to ask questions about them is simply silly.0 -
If you are worried that your repeated posts about the immoral behaviour (in your opinion) of other posters don’t get much positive response, perhaps there is a problem with your powers of persuasion. Keep trying.gsmh said:

What about your repeated posts about acquiring free money? Please explain how, on moral grounds, opening an account *just* to acquire the reward or bonus is the right thing to do. I will constantly challenge the accepted ethos of large-scale posters in this forum. Challenging an immoral (IMO) action is not quite the same as calling those who perpetrate it immoral.colsten said:If you are worried that your repeated posts about the immoral behaviour (in your opinion) of other posters don’t get much positive response, perhaps there is a problem with your powers of persuasion. I don’t feel obliged to explain anything, nor do you have the right to ask me to do so. If you don’t like what I post, you can just scroll past. Rest assured, though, that I and others, incl. MSE Towers, personal finance pages in newspapers and banks themselves, will keep publicising switch offers.gsmh said:
