@RelievedSheff - it might be worth investigating an EU Pet Passport while you are in France as they last for 3 years rather than having to get the AHC every time you go abroad.  Also much cheaper in France than the UK - quel surprise!
  • Been following your thread for a while but not posted before (we are fellow MH’ers and have a dog)

I think you are going to France by tunnel, in which case your best bet for a AHC is Abbeywood vets in Folkestone. It may be too late for this year, depending on what tonight appt is for, but something to think about for future years.

I don’t know how much your local vet has quoted (ours were £300+ upwards) but Abbeywood charge £99 for first AHC and £69 for repeats. You may be lucky and have a reasonable local vet, they do exist but not many around!

Abbeywood are brilliant, they have set themselves up to provide AHCs for tunnel travellers. You send all info by email, including proof of rabies vacc, and preferred day of pick up - they check it, then send a payment link and confirm when AHC is done (usually a few days before you want to pick up). They are based about 10 mins drive from the tunnel, so easy to access.

We have used them last 2 years and it’s so easy and cheap.

I agree that if you are travelling in future, getting an EU passport would help. Most french vets won’t give them unless you have a French address, but some in Belgium and other countries nearby will. There is a website called Motorhome Fun (you may already know about it), with lots of posts on there, naming vets who will provide EU passports.

The vet we used for worming in France 2 weeks ago, actually suggested we get a passport in Switzerland (we were near border) but we are not too bothered given that our dog is 10.

In terms of worming, you may already have sorted a vet in France, but if not, an interactive map has been developed (accessible from CAMC website I think) with vet recommendations in different parts of France. Like AHCs, there is a variety of prices charged, but most French vets let you provide your own worming tablets (we always do).

    Thanks both.

Our local vet is charging a mid range price of £200. We are happy to use them this time but will certainly look at other alternatives for future trips.

We won't be heading to Europe every year so we will stick with the AHC route rather then getting him an EU pet passport.

Unfortunately he never got to use his UK pet passport due to a combination of Covid and moving house so that was an expensive waste of money!

Good to catch up with your diary. Looks like you had a great last few days of holiday and a nice surprise with the pay rise.

@enthusiasticsaver although a long way from home for you, Norfolk and Suffolk are lovely counties if you enjoy UK breaks.

We have nipped to the shop on the way to work to pick up the weekends beer. We have some friends staying with us this weekend so we have picked up more than usual, so a spendy start to the day.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are from stores. Breakfast was toast, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is spicy sausages with naga rice and vegetables.

    Tonight's jobs are:
    • walking the dog
    • cleaning the kitchen
    • cleaning the bathrooms
    • vacuuming the house
While it was dry last night we got the grass cut while we can. So we swapped gardening last night for cleaning the kitchen.

I'm at the hairdressers after work tonight so the other half has said that he will do the vacuuming and the bathrooms which suits me. I will do the kitchen after we have eaten dinner.

It's Friday at last. It has seemed like a very long week!!

Breakfast and lunch are from stores. Breakfast was porridge and we have both taken our packed lunches to work. We have some friends coming over to stay for the weekend, they will arrive at ours at about 7.30pm tonight so I'm going to order some pizzas in for dinner tonight.

No jobs to do tonight. We got everything done last night. Must walk the dog before our friends get here but that won't be a problem.

The fridge is well stocked to last the weekend out. We had hoped to be able to crack the BBQ out this weekend but the weather has other ideas unfortunately so we have opted for the back up plan for dinner tomorrow and I will stick a curry in the slow cooker.
