@RelievedSheff iirc your OH is about the same age as me, early 40s so I'm going to assume his parents are getting on in years and they aren't going to be around forever mate, you get on and it's 300 miles each way in your own van. They perhaps have every intention to come and see you but some days can't face that trip - I know it's probably not fair on you two to always have to make the effort but if you're shattered, they will certainly be at that age driving that far.
  • Could your inlaws meet you midway way for a couple of days?  You could stay in the van and they could stay at a B & B or a hotel or self-catering whatever works best for them. You can then spend some of the time together and some of the time with OH.

We used to meet up with the ex's mother and partner like this, they would take their caravan and we would book something. We would meet up for drinks or a meal or at the caravan and play cards or a board game or visit somewhere together. It took the pressure off anyone hosting and feeling responsible and reduced the distances we all needed to travel.

It's a nice idea and one we will suggest but I doubt they will be up for it.

The weather is a bit wet and horrible out this morning. Not a no spends day today. We have been and picked up a few bits for the weekend this morning.

Breakfast and lunch and from stores today. Breakfast was toast and we have both taken our packed lunches to work. Dinner tonight is a KFC. The other half has an appointment tonight after work so he said he will pick one up on the way back home which suits me.

    Tonight's jobs are:
    • walking the dog
    • cleaning the van interior
We are still undecided what we are doing this weekend. Some friends are at a local campsite with their van and we would have liked to meet up with them but the site is fully booked. We keep looking for any cancellations on the website but no joy so far. If we can't get a cancellation I think we will probably stay at home this weekend.

Mr SA's mum used to mess us about at Christmas. Every year she used to go to her daughter's on Christmas Day and we invited her to ours Boxing Day. Every blooming year SIL used to ply her with alcohol so come Boxing Day she'd feel too rough to come to ours.

I wonder if the campsite will get a cancellation if the weather forecast isn't great, worth keep checking I suppose.

It will be another no spends day today. Number 7 for October. Hoping to get another one in for this month which will be a higher total than expected given the slow start to the month.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was crumpets, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is spicy goat burgers with cajun chips, beer battered onion rings and corn on the cob.

Will put a load of washing on tonight I think. The weather doesn't look like great drying weather tomorrow so I will get it hung in the spare bathroom and give it a head start.

Still no joy on getting a cancellation on the campsite so we are assuming we won't get a pitch now and are planning for a weekend at home. Starting tonight with a chilled out few beers on the sofa watching a film.

Looking forward to a lie in in the morning.

Just as we gear ourselves up for a weekend at home a cancellation pops up  :D

So it looks like we are out in the van tomorrow. Will have to give it a quick clean out in the morning. Didn't do it last night because we didn't think we were going out!

Nice to hear you have got the cancellation @RelievedSheff - is your van pretty much ready to go? I can't imagine it'd be fun packing and repacking constantly with how often you go away. Enjoy your relaxed Friday evening in, we are also going to watch a film tonight, no beers though as we're doing the fundraiser so it's sparkling tea. Need to head home from the office first ha.

The van is pretty much always ready to go. Just need to put clothes and food in it and top up the water.

We don't strip everything off it each time. That would be a nightmare 🤣🤣🤣

It's like having a second home sat on the drive.

Looking forward to catching up with our friends tomorrow. Not seen them since we sold the boat. They have self converted their own van so looking forward to seeing that. They have in the last few weeks sold their boat as well which we didn't see coming.
