Glad to hear you're ok @alt80 and have some nice plans in place with your family.
I used to have to walk along that canal path every day to get to work but now we've moved I only walk along there if I need to go to Sainsburys in my lunch break, although we are still more or less right next to it, just not on it. I used to love seeing the changes in seasons.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1 -
It's Canal and River Trust who are supposed to maintain it. They are equally good at taking your money and squandering it.alt80 said:My boy has always liked the water / coastal landscapes / boats, used to be obsessed with aquariums lol. Still likes them tbf. Just likes being outdoors I think, likes his sports too and still loves our garden. Trying to organise taking him to places this summerYou don’t surprise me re the canal here especially if it’s under the maintenance of NCC - they are !!!!!!, charge us a !!!!!! fortune in council tax though. Highest but one hike this year right in middle of cost of living crisis but still can't sort the roads out, potholes everywhere fml.1 -

It looks very pretty in Newark. Do they do a park and ride so you can get into town. On our travels we tend to use them to get into the towns - the best one so far was Winchester… we rocked up at 5 to 4 and it was free after 4…..we didn’t know this. So just hung around for 5 minutes and had a lovely couple of hours in town 👍January spends - £587.582

No park and ride unfortunately. It isn't really big enough to justify one!milann said:It looks very pretty in Newark. Do they do a park and ride so you can get into town. In other news. We noticed a fault on the enamel on the BBQ a couple of weeks ago. I took some pictures but have been forgetting to send them to the manufacturers. I finally got round to sending them this morning and within an hour had a response to say that a complete new hood has been dispatched from Ireland and is on its way too us.
Certainly can't fault the customer service from Sahara.1 -
We usually park in Aldi for a couple of hours and then move on to Waitrose for another couple of hours, that's usually long enough to look around.
Although the Tolney Lane car park ( opposite Waitrose ) isn't expensive.
The problem with Motorhomes or Caravans is they are not encouraged in Newark because of the problems they have with Travellers. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.2 -
We were lucky and got one of the free parking spaces on Great North Road near the roundabout on Sunday, no time limit on a Sunday either so we were not rushing around.Grumpelstiltskin said:We usually park in Aldi for a couple of hours and then move on to Waitrose for another couple of hours, that's usually long enough to look around.

Of course we fully understand why motorhomes are not so welcome in Newark, its just a shame that there is no distinction between tourists and the travelling community.
We certainly wouldn't feel happy leaving the van unattended in the Tolney Lane car park for any length of time.
It will probably just be a case of us not visiting with the van unfortunately.1 -
@Sun_Addict thank you. We are concentrating on spending summer with our boy before he’s back at school for another year time goes far too quickly. That’s a mission walking from Gedling to there everyday, fml you must be fit. Will be autumn soon, love the autumn colours obviously see all the trees losing their leaves where I live so idk maybe that’s where he gets the love of the outdoors from as he’s always loved the changing seasons too.
@RelievedSheff they are all on another !!!!!! planet mate, all take, no give. I haven’t got a !!!!!! clue how they spend it all.Ha I was going to say something a bit less PC than ‘travelling community’ but didn’t really think it needed saying. It’s a shame tbh re the van but 100% not worth the risk of leaving it there.2 -
Not a no spends day today. I had to nip to the shop this morning for some bread and dog treats. Nothing expensive though.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was toasted fruit loaf, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is slow cooked mint and chilli lamb shanks with root veg mash and greens.
Tonight's jobs are:- walking the dog
