We've had ours too - I was surprised how efficient our lot were in getting them out to be honest!

We're in a similar position with our electricity use coming in under the amount we pay at the moment - and again, we've not increased our DD at the moment, but have credit building up ahead of winter. Like you, we're still stashing money aside "just in case" though - I think it will be needed in our case for sure.

With the announcement today that they expect the price cap to reach £2800 in October then we definitely need to be putting some money aside for the winter bills.

Our bills are lower than average so we won't take the full hit in the rise thankfully!

It was going to be a no spends day but the car has got us to work this morning but is now making noises under the bonnet which the other half thinks may well be terminal  :/

He is going to get the mechanics next door to where he works to have a listen this morning and let me know how we are getting home tonight. Trouble is we have both left our driving licences and credit cards at home so hiring a car isn't going to be quite so easy. The other half is going to see if their loan car is booked out or not.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are from stores. Breakfast was crumpets, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is fish cakes with chips and vegetables.

Tonight's jobs (when/if we get home) are:
    • load of washing
    • walking the dog
  • Oh no, that's all you need :(  I hope that it's not actually terminal and that a fix doesn't cost too much

We have a car to get home which is the good news. We can borrow one from the other half's work.

The mechanics are stripping ours down to find out the extent of the damage. It might not be as bad as we all first feared.

Best case scenario is that it just needs a new starter motor. Then there are varying degrees of expense from there involving the flywheel, clutch assembly and gearbox depending on what has damaged what and by how much.

We might find out later today the extent of the damage. If it just needs the starter motor then we may get it back tonight with a bit of luck.

Didn't get our car back today. They were supplied with the wrong part. They are fairly confident it is just the starter motor though which is good.

Shouldn't cost too much if that is the case.

That's good news.  At least you haven't got to find another car yet.
