Forgot to add earlier that I have sent £25 to the Premium Bonds account.

Hopefully as of next month, when we have got this months van spends out of the way, we can add a bit more per month.

Would like to have added a bit more but we know that this month is going to be an expensive month with the van bills all coming at once.

If we have any surplus money towards the end of the month, which I don't think is likely, I might put a bit more in the account.
  • My dad has a fair amount of premium bonds and he gets winning streaks and then nothing for aaages. At least it's a safe gamble as his initial investment remains the same.
Good luck in getting some Ernie cheques!

I think we have a long way to go before we will win anything.

Just using it as a safe way to squirrel some money away in all honesty.

Find it too easy to transfer money from the saving account linked to our current account. So the theory is this money will be out of sight out of mind!

It was just a load of root veg, a couple of lamb neck pieces and some fresh mint and rosemary from the garden, some chilli flakes and some crushed garlic with some gravy granules left in the slow cooker all day.

    It was delicious.

It will be a no spends day today. Number 1 for April. I don't expect there will be so many this month. It looks set to be a very spendy month.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was toast, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is pizza and a few beers watching a couple of films.

I need to stick a load of washing on tonight. I forgot to put it in this morning before we left for work.

I tried last night to submit our meter readings but the website was down. Will keep trying today. We have pictures as proof of the readings anyway.

Decided it was time to start putting money into the savings account again as well as into the Premium Bonds.

We had some success last year with rounding the bank balance down whenever we logged on to the online banking and sticking the pennies or pounds into the savings account attached to the current account. So we have decided to start doing that again.

I have also added £50 in there this month but hope as of next month when we have the big spends out of the way to increase that. Still not sure of the amount I will aim to put away. We had initially intended to put the £250 a month away which is what the car was costing before it was paid off. But with the increasing cost of living I'm not so sure that will actually be possible just yet.

The savings won't be for anything in particular. We won't have separate pots. It will just be there if and when we need it.

We need to be more strict with the savings this time round though. We found it far too easy to dip into the account last time and it quickly frittered away when we bought the van.  :/

So savings account balances as of 01.04.22

    Savings Account £52
    Premium Bonds £50
