All heading in the right direction now

@RelievedSheff Europe in the van sounds like a lot of fun - wonder if you enjoying the van more than the boat is due to it making more places more easily accessible? I can’t believe how much use your getting from it tbh I think it’s great value for you.Hope the salmon was nice?Interesting you’re effectively thinking about rolling into reducing mortgage term. I’m so !!!!!! anxious about the idea of owing nothing on cards or cars and having a load of spare money tbh my plan is to just keep what the payments total retained in my ltds - all goes towards more units. Think we’re similar - don’t want the extra money burning a hole in our pockets ha. Tbf I see the right place when I’ve got no payments going out on cards/ cars I will gladly double my res mortgage.1

The van is certainly taking us to a lot of different places then we could go with the boat. With the boat we were obviously limited to where the rivers went. With the van the possibilities are almost endless. So much so that we often struggle to decide where we fancy going for the weekend!alt80 said:@RelievedSheff Europe in the van sounds like a lot of fun - wonder if you enjoying the van more than the boat is due to it making more places more easily accessible? We are looking forward to being able to head across to Europe. It is one of the main reasons we bought the van. There are a lot of places for us to visit in the UK but driving onto the train at Folkestone opens up endless possibilities.
The salmon was spot on thanks. Presentation was a bit lacking. I hate working with pastry

We are keen to get the mortgage paid off as quickly as possible as that then frees up loads more money per month. Then we can both think about reducing our working hours as we just won't need the amount of money per month that we do now.1 -
It will be a no spends day today.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was a toasted bagel, the other half has taken his packed lunch to work, I am having soup and bread for my lunch and dinner tonight is wagyu saag masala with pilau rice, sweet potato and onion bhaji, vegetable samosa and garlic and coriander naan bread.
Today's jobs include:- working from home
- vacuuming the house
- dusting the house
- load of washing
- making the curry
- walking the dog x 2
In other news we got an email from work yesterday saying that we are all going to be going back into the office in the next few weeks and we would be contacted to discuss our return to work arrangements. Not an hour later my boss called. I told him we need as much notice as possible due to getting the dog back into going to work with the other half. So I'm sure we can string it out for a few weeks yet.1 -
We've been told we'll be given 4 weeks notice of returning to the office although the target date of getting us back in at least 1 day a week by the end of September has been extended. They want those who struggle to WFH for various reasons settled back in first. It's going to be weird going back to the office, I've got mixed feelings. I hope you can squeeze in a few more weeks from home anyway.
Good luck with the in laws this weekend, I'm sure a few beers will make it go a lot more smoothly 😁I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1 -

I love hearing about your trips in the van mate, it does sound amazing and adding Europe into the mix as you say gives endless possibilities there. Said it before and I’ll say it again you’ve got a !!!!!! amazing life.Made me smile re pastry we are no good at it either but so long as it tastes good that’s all that matters ha.Read your last comment and thought what the !!!!!! re not needing the money so will do less work but tbf if you can enjoy your life spending it doing what you and your OH want to do with it that’s living the dream mate. You don’t need to keep spare money locked in !!!!!! companies or double your mortgage because you’re !!!!!! terrified you’ll just wind up doing really stupid stuff if you keep the cash in your pocket rather than doing what you should be doing; I respect that 100%.
Hope the weekend with the in-laws goes ok.2 -
With interest rates historically low, you would be better off long term by increasing your pension contributions (& they would benefit from the tax relief too).0

It will be a low spend day today. We need to get some fruit and vegetables from the farm shop.
Breakfast and dinner will be from stores but we are meeting with the dogs brother this morning and getting a spot of lunch somewhere. Bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast and shepherd's pie and vegetables tonight for dinner.
In laws arrived just after 6pm. Our dog went straight into attack mode with their dog so we spent the evening keeping them apart. They both settled down in the end!
