I wanted Miele 20+ years ago, couldn't afford it, settled for Bosch. The Bosch then lasted over 15 years so got another Bosch which is still going strong. Still want the Miele but can't really explain it now when we've been well served by Bosch - pretty much the cheapest model as well with every day use. But this is washing machine only - washer dryers have always been notoriously temperamental as far as I know. I had a Zanussi one briefly back in starter home/shoe box days. It was useless. I think the long guarantee could be worth it on a washer/dryer.5

The longest guarantee we have found on a washer dryer unit was 5 years and that was the Samsung ones. I think we are leaning towards one of those to be honest purely for the longer warranty cover they provide.3

You're doing well with the debt repayments and chipping away at the overall total, it might seem slow going but you're heading in the right direction. I got my washing machine from AO and took out their extended warranty at £3.49 a month, I wasn't sure I'd done the right thing to begin with but I've had it repaired several times since I bought it so I think I've had my money's worth. I use it at least once a day so it gets some hammering. I'm not sure if they still do it but didn't John Lewis used to give you a free 5 years guarantee if you bought electricals from there?I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

I have decided today to start sorting out some refunds for holidays and travel arrangements that we had made for this year and early next year. It is surprising how much these little bits add up. So far I have requested refunds from:
- Burnham Deepdale Campsite = £175
- Eurotunnel = £225
- Le Boat = £1223
The refunded money will be put towards the work that we want to get done in the garden this winter. It might even be enough to cover the work2 -
Eurotunnel will offer you a voucher for the cost of your travel. I've had to cancel two trips this year and that's all I've got as I didn't get the refundable tickets. My travel insurance wouldn't cover it as I booked after lockdown was announced.

Hopefully your insurance will refund but if not as far as I can see they are extending beyond the original 12 months from time of booking which they usually do to 12 months from when you cancel. I've actually moved our last holiday to next month so hoping that when I cancel towards the end of next month (just before we're due to go) they will give me another 12 months. We would really like to get away at least some time next year! The UK in the motorhome is so expensive - we did a month this year and it cost us as much as a month in France does.

Brilliant news re figures and getting the refund back for a holiday you can’t take but getting the garden done that you will enjoy everyday seems like a win win to me.
2 year guarantee on electricals from JL... you know I can be trusted on that lol.
It appears you’re joining @Sun_Addict and I in Tier 3 on Friday... I’ll get in before someone else does, it’s 100 because BoJo heard I headed up your way today.3 -
Yes we were a bit surprised to hear the news that Bassetlaw was going under tier 3 as of tomorrow as well.
Oh well. Looks like November will be a cheap month!3 -
I have woken up fresh as a daisy this morning after the first night on the new mattress. It is so much more comfy than the old one was. Just got to take the old one to the tip on Saturday morning now. It is currently wrapped up in plastic and stuffed in my car, Looks like there is a dead body in there!
It will be a no spend day today.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was crumpets, the other half has taken his packed lunch to work, I will grab something from the fridge or freezer for my lunch, not sure what yet, and dinner tonight is pork chops, parsnip and potato mash and vegetables.
We have a load of game and alternative meats arriving this morning that we ordered at the weekend. Among it is some very nice bacon for Christmas day breakfast and some very nice streaky bacon and sausages for pigs in blankets to go on the Christmas dinner. We don't buy them all the time as they are expensive but we do like to splash out a little for Christmas
Today's jobs include:- working from home
- dusting the house
- wrapping Christmas presents as they arrive
- putting the meat delivery away in the relevant freezers
- walking the dog x 2
