You've just said 'they will not shut down everyone's accounts', implying they will close 'someone's account'.

At the end of the day, regardless of T's and C's if a bank doesn't want you as a customer  then they will close the account.

You're really clutching at straws here while, at the same time, accusing other people of not knowing what they're talking about. Some of these people actually work in the banking sector and definitely do know what they're talking about.
There is no 'law'. You have quoted the somewhat vague T&C's from a banks website, but these are of no help to people who've actually had their personal accounts closed for putting business through them. In the case of the OP, the account probably wasn't closed for this reason, but I wouldn't like to try using my personal account for business and showing the bank the snippets you posted in my defence.
I know exactly what i am talking about through my experience and the fact that i work in the finance industry. That being said - let me be clear, banks can shut down an account without any reason whether you have a business or personal account. They may decide they dont want you one day and close your account so everything else is irrelevant.

Point i am making about the business and personal account is, its unlikely a bank will close your account down for a few business transactions. You have to be one of the very few who are unlucky or doing huge amount of business transactions with huge value and using the account for nothing but business. If anyone was doing that and using such volume they would have a proper business account. So they would have a personal account.

In a nutshell yes. They very few or unlucky ones that may be picked up on a algo somewhere. OR maybe they may get a warning or maybe they bank will just ignore it. Its all at the banks discretion. As for russian roulette - you are already playing that game with the banks. As @Robin9 has pointed out - banks can close anyones account at any time.

Well...in fifty years of dealing with banks, I've never had an account closed. Nor any member of my family, nor any friends/acquaintances I know of. So I guess I'll just have to take your word for it.

If I take any lesson for myself from this thread, it is that that I will continue to go by the T&Cs of an account rather than some dubious advice from a stranger on the Internet who claims they know better than bank employees, and who encourages people to effectively ignore the T&Cs.

Back to the OP's problem: given that your friend cannot get an account anywhere, I can only repeat what's been suggested several times already: she needs to get the facts from CIFAS before she can do anything else. In addition, she should also consider getting a SAR into National Hunter, as there might be further information there. Bombarding Barclays Execs with emails is just shooting in the dark at this stage. If they respond at all, I would not be surprised if it is with just a "sorry, we are unable to offer you an account any longer". They are totally within their rights to do so. The recording of any CIFAS marker might be a different matter - but she can only complain about that once she knows what's on CIFAS about her, and how it got there.

Colsten again with poor advice. It does seem you pop up on nearly all the threads give such bad advice.

As already stated the first thing to do is make a complaint to Barclays management team, including the executive team and CEO. This should be done ASAP whilst at the same time give a SAR to CIFAS. However, CIFAS is just confirmation of what we already know which is Barclays have put a fraud marker down. Whilst waiting for the SAR to come back, Barclays will hopefully resolve this complaint. As for national hunter???? Good God, national hunter is irrelevant to this situation so lets not waste the OP's time sending a SAR to national hunter. The Barclays executive team will not ignore the OP at all, they will respond and look into the complaint. It is all about how you write the e-mail, the wording and what you write.

Such bad bad advice from you.

Lets hope you will follow through this time and not cave in. I am really not that interesting so there is no need to take me off ignore

Seems a bit harsh to say it is a business. I imagine lots of people occasionally sell things without running a business. For example if I sell some DVDs on EBay does this mean I am running a business? What about if a mate asks me to be a first aider at party and bungs me £100 for it? Am I running a first aid business?
