Evans Halshaw - Admin Fee
I went to view a car yesterday at a local Evans Halshaw
upon going over the details of a vehicle I was interested in, I was advised of a compulsory £99 admin fee
apparently everyone charges these !!!!! I can't find anything online about this, quite the opposite in fact
I did say I wasn't interested in any sort of warranty or extras, just a straight forward cash/part exchange deal.
is these legal ?
Thanks

The admin fees are legal.
I don't think it is correct to charge them.1 -

Well, I like that article linked by @oh_really as it says not including the admin fee in the 'ticket price' is illegal. I always like to learn something, especially when it is something good.1

How they want to break the price up is irrelevant. The only important figure is the bottom line of what you hand over.
And, no, not "everybody" is charging the £99 fee. Just the pile'em-high-flog'em-cheap merchants aiming at those who can't see past the headline.0 -
Just search this board for Halshaw ... this question comes up quite regularly.
They use it as a means to improve sales margin ... it is (or should be) there on the contract before you sign, but it's not there (usually) on the ticket price on the car. So if you don't agree with it you refuse to sign the contract until they remove it - they usually do.0 -
The admin fee is clear at places like that. You either go ahead or you don't. On a brandnew car it can be hiden but it does not matter as the on the road price you agreed with or without 12 months road tax the choice is yours.
motorpoint is another they never budge on a price accosung to a tv doc a while back and say they make their money from the admin side if i recall it correctly.
The thing is the admin fee is clearly stated so I do not see it as a problem.-1 -
You don't think its correct to charge them. They run a business and the buyer has the option to either go to one that clearly states it or another that includes it in their best on the road price. Priceless.Grumpy_chap said:The admin fees are legal.

Where is your evidence that "they usually remove it"??DoaM said:Just search this board for Halshaw ... this question comes up quite regularly.

The point is there is no reason(zero, nada, zilch) to charge this. There isnt 99 pounds stirling worth of admin to do on a car sale. Ever.4 -
Incredibel! I hope you are not being serious, really. The "zero" you refer to is 99 pounds. The dealer has every right to charge that and that is a fact. The buyer can go elsewhere and that too is as real as it gets. So what are you trying to say that you want the 99 pounds charged included in the OTR in a different way?? How do you knw the admin fee is not costing that you are just guessing again. Many dealers of used cars do that and if you no like e, go to another, simple as it can get.Scrapit said:
