  • Had a lovely birthday and now been paid so updated my savings pots.  Now looks like this...

    Teeth & Glasses £290
House Maintenance £1275...but not for long!!!
    Clothes £700
Long term, emergency & redundancy £8800
    Cat Health £350
    Car replacement £6230
Gap between intended retirement & state pension £12000
    Beauty £624
    Holiday £2885
    Entertaining £500

They all look really healthy, but have to be taken into context that I will probably be finished in this job in November next year.  So there will be a gap of 4 years 8 months when I will be on a much reduced income.
  • Unfortunately, on Friday, Storm Arwen decided to destroy my timber double gates.  To be fair, they were getting on in years and I had in mind to replace just before finishing in work next year.  The joiner who will do them for me and I know and trust has quoted me £750.  This will come out of house maintenance and the good thing is that he won't get round to doing them until early next year so there will be a bit more in the pot by then.

Your savings look good. I just have a christmas fund and everything else is in mortgage overpayment fund. Your system is better. The storm has been expensive. It is good that you can afford the repairs.

  • Keep saving and remember JSA can be claimed, it doesn't matter how much you have in the bank and while it's not a lot it will give you 6 months breather and the chance of assessing the work situation or exploring other benefit entitlement.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Sorry to hear about the storm damage. Is it not covered on insurance/ not worth claiming?

  • Finished work at lunchtime till the 4th and looking forward to the break. Christmas, overall has come out at what I budgeted. In truth, I don’t have a lot of people to buy for so in many ways, it’s easier. Only thing is I’d planned to go to boyfriend, take food and cook on Christmas Day, but he tested positive for Covid last night. So, it will be just me and the cat!!! I did shed a few tears when I was slinging the food in the freezer, but it can’t be helped. There will be hundreds if not thousands like me. The main thing is it’s just like a really bad cold so he is not suffering too much. I hope everyone on here has a lovely Christmas and let’s look forward to a better 2022.
  • Make the most of your break and clock up some rest.
If you both have z00m or something do video calls, it's better than the phone. Plan a Christmas in a few weeks when your BF is better, it will give you a positive focus for the new year.

  • Sorry to hear about your boyfriend MoneyWorry. Christmas is just a day and you can both celebrate once he is well again. Hope his symptoms are mild and he recovers quickly and you both have a wonderful celebration in the new year
