Interesting because i've just spent £900 on light fittings and blinds to sell the place so it looked pretty.   Do you think I could take these with me or offer them for sale.  Hadn't really considered that before ?

    REALLY? What a thought!

Friends were buying a house that had been fitted with an ornate house sign, which showed the street name as well as the house number, and so would have been useless to the vendors in their new home.

Nonetheless, the vendor wanted a ridiculous sum for it 'because it was a specially commissioned work of art'.  My friends refused the offer, as it wasn't to their taste.  They moved in to find the vendor had indeed taken the sign with them - leaving 4 unsightly holes drilled in the brickwork at the front of the house.
I  ca sort of understand someone taking that as a keepsake but you think they would replace it with a standard sign, they only cost about £25!

When we moved into our current house the previous vendors left everything in the garage extension including a full rooftop extending ladder (hung outside), 1000's of screws, nails, woodworking tools (dozens), spare locks, garden tools etc - you name it and it was probably there, it was like a mini B&Q. After 20 years in this house I've probably put a dent into less than 10% of it. It was, however, a friend of my mums whose husband had died (he was an ex-Clerk of Works for a council) and she was downsizing to a small 2 bed bungalow.

When we moved recently we left an American fridge freezer for our buyers.  They did us a favour really because we were going temporarily into a rented place.  The vendor of our current house left us a broken lawnmower and a wonky whirlygig washing line.

Our vendor is downsizing so we occasionally get calls from the EA asking if we'd like them to leave bits of furniture, so far it's a wardrobe, washing machine, and bookcase. They've also included the carpets, blinds, and garden furniture - never asked for a penny for any of it though.
  • God, reading this makes me even more grateful for the seller I have. Not only is she super patient and really nice, but she’s also leaving me her 2-year-old American fridge freezer and double range oven, plus her garden swing cos she heard me say I liked it during the viewing.
