I'd argue that if a car selling service has sat on it for 8 months, they aren't doing a good job. Have they been using it in the mean time and driving the value down?

If you want to sell the car, take it back from this 3rd party, and take it to your local Audi dealer to see what they'll give you for it. If it's actually worth £16k on a forecourt they should be offering you around £13-14k.  Or just sell it to webuyanycar.com who'll give you the low end of the auction value but you'll be rid of it with no hassle.

Probably a fiver knowing WBAC  :D
Well I've never been a fan of WBAC as I believe people can do better if they put the effort in  BUT according to some of the posters on here I've been proven wrong and could be writing them off prematurely as some seem to have done okay and got what they wanted price wise, worth a shot at the very least.

Since when does a seller pay for the buyers work to the car?!?
Since every time a buyer's said "I'll have it, but only if you do that work in the price."

    Look, it's very simple...

£16k advertised. But nobody wanted to pay £16k for it. That's why it sat there unsold for eight months.

You had a choice - cancel the deal for £795 (I presume that was in the commission sale terms you agreed to? Hardly unreasonable for eight months of storage and advertising), or allow them to continue trying to sell it for what they could.

Somebody finally offered £13,750, subject to work.
    £13,750 - £2,500 commission = £11,250
    £11,250 - £450 share of the bill for the work = £10,800

The other way of looking at it, of course, is that they're reducing their commission by the other half of the cambelt bill...

Might depend also on what the commissionable amount is - either before or after consideration of the cambelt work etc.  But being over optimistic on the price in the first place hasn't helped.  It doesn't look good if it has been stuck for sale in the same place for a long period of time, that's when you get people chipping away at the price.  Asking 16k when 15k was paid a few years ago is in the lap of the gods.
  • That's just what they put it up for.  I'm was hoping for 12-13k return.

Sounds like they have taken the urine out of you.  No way you can get it collected and you sell it yourself?  I would rather sell it for £10,000 quick and take a loss than let these people make even more money out of me.

RS4's always get strong money, unless they are high mileage, unserviced cars with issues.

Which would have required a £14.5-15.5k sale price.

Which didn't materialise in eight months.

I think you just need to be realistic with the price and their business model. Cars under 6 years old are bought, tidied up and go into their car supermarkets (because they want the car to be no more than 10 years old after the 4 year finance), cars over 6 years old go to auction. You're looking at bottom end of auction prices or trade in at best, the car's invariably in poorer condition than the owner thinks, and the quote is overly simplistic so often gives a false idea.

Their main seller is those that need to get rid of a car quickly or who don't want the hassle of a private sell, so are looking at the desperate and the price insensitive, thus they are always going to low ball. On the flip side, it's a really easy way to sell a car if you're not pushing for the best possible price.

Sounds like the company has oversold the value of the vehicle in an attempt to get as much commission as possible.

795 charge for no sale or 2400 quid for a sale? A sale that hasn't materialised in 8 months? Why on earth did you go any where near this firm? Ebay, auto trader or WBAC would have been tons cheaper, quicker and ultimately better. And you've had no use of the vehicle over this time? Couldn't make it up.
Would not touch with a bargepole.
