It seems like TSB will be updating their debit card design soon.

Isn't that just for the Student account?

That particular image is for the student account. However, if you look at TSB's web site, you'll see that the student account presently has a similar design of debit card to their other current accounts. It's not a stretch to imagine that if one changes, they all will.

(This is disappointing. I like the current TSB design, but don't like the new one shown in the picure referenced above. Oh, well. It's not the end of the world. On the upside, it does look as though they're no longer going to be embossing the card number. I haven't had an impression taken from any of my cards for more years than I can remember, and have long thought that the embossing was obsolete. 30, maybe? I had an RBS account until two or three months ago. That was just about the only thing that I thought they actually got right.)

Ooooh great. This will look lovely next to my new monochromed first direct debit MasterCard card. What a time to be alive!
  • Looks like the student has nibbled on the edge of the card!

In my day, it was pencils 🤷‍♂️

This looks like the design we saw in the Current Account range refresh (i.e. massive worsening) presentation deck last year.

I guess the Mastercard switch is out in the long grass now.

Yes. Classic Plus account on borrowed time?

It's only a question of when, not if, TSB discontinue the Classic Plus account.  As WillPS mentions, TSB gave a presentation to their investors in November last year outlining their future strategy.  They explained they would be moving away from the Classic Plus as it only "meets a narrow set of customer needs".  In its place would be a free account which pays no interest; a monthly fee based account (they specified a £3 per month bolt-on) which "lets you withdraw cash abroad with no unexpected fees or charges"; and an enhanced monthly fee based account which lets you "choose the insurance bundle that's right for you".  They didn't say how much this would cost.
The PowerPoint showed a selection of new debit cards, in light-blue, dark-blue and pink, in the portrait style that notveryeducated includes a link to, above.

The new range was due to be launched in the first quarter of this year, but that plan was probably scuppered by Covid 19.
Any idea where you heard about this PowerPoint? Word of mouth I'm assuming?
