Hi @MovingForwards not much to update here. Still pestering work. Got the chief nurse on the case now so hoping to get something from her tomorrow about my chances of getting back there or not.

I’m not going to be overpaying for the time being. I’m living on a shoestring in order to stretch xmas and also January’s mortgage payment and basic bills which I’ve got covered now thank goodness! So although I didn’t have a 3 month emergency fund saved up I’ll have officially survived 3 months of not working! If I get the opportunity to go back then I’ll continue to live as I am and put away at least £2500 savings.

I’m a bit reluctant to apply for other jobs until I’ve heard from the ‘others’ and once I have gotten through that I have another job very keen to employ me. i have no confidence at the minute for branching out to other roles but I do have a little action plan in my head if it is necessary.

I’ve been painting my doorstep today. We had a piece of wood there since doing the drive and it was £65+ for an original style step... anyway one of the neighbours seen our wood and they’d replaced their original one and still had it in their shed so we got it for free 😁 just need to do another coat tomorrow and maybe a 3rd in a few days. I probably shouldn’t have done it in this cold weather but I was bored! I might stretch to a £18 pot of paint to touch up the brickwork then the front will be nice and fresh for my xmas lights to go up!

Hope you’re all well. Take care x

Well today I picked up the red paint from b&q (which I thought was click and collect only turned out it’s like Aintree races in there at 10am) and had a little 2 hour sunny opportunity to get out and do my 2nd coat on the doorstep and touch up the red brick. I am absolutely buzzing with the results. The patio just needs a jet wash then it’s finally all come together! Here’s a little before and after! DP used to like that step but now he can see how ugly it truly was!
I applied for an agency job last night when I couldn’t sleep at about 1am (I tend to deal with a lot of life admin when I can’t sleep) and got a phonecall at9am saying thanks for the application they’ve requested references and will be in touch for interview this week so that’s promising!

No overpayments this month obviously but I’ve most of xmas sorted, December and January bills in the bank and not in my overdraft yet so all good x

  • Looks good!
Well done submitting the application, you can't hang on indefinitely for the other to resolve.
Keep reviewing your budget and avoid the O/D if you can 🤗

I’ve got an interview for the agency next Tuesday. It’s on Zoom which I HATE but it should be easy. I have done a year in a Nursing Home too as an RN so know what’s expected.

The chief nurse should be in touch tomorrow about my job but I don’t hold my breath. She really had to kick off for HR and the Nurse Bank to reply to her so there’s something fishy going on. Ideally I’d like to stay in my job on an ad-hoc basis and take the disability assessment job so I can work from home and head towards a less nursey career.

I have learnt through this that my interview and public speaking skills are quite poor so a New Years resolution will be to get some practice in more formal environments. I have lots of knowledge, skills and experience but am absolutely awful at communicating it!

I’m just watching Martin Lewis on the telly now and he’s telling us not to waste money on xmas. My 8 year old is telling me to cover my ears 😂

  • With your current job, their hands are tied and no amount of pushing will help. Will the chief provide you a reference for elsewhere?

Can you do a few practice interview zoom calls with friends. Also write a cheat sheet or have your CV in front of you. Tomorrow have a quick look online and pick up a few tips.
Most of all remember agencies are a lot different to direct employer interviews, they get to know the person to get the fit right, while checking the work history during the chat.

At the moment you're very jaded with your career, it's to be expected. That's why I suggested agency work somewhere else to keep your hand in, get your confidence back and potentially find a more rewarding role.
If you still feel the same in a year or two, after trying a few different places, then give serious consideration about a change of direction.

    Kids are so cheeky 😂

  • The Chief nurse is trying to establish what is actually happening as I've had nothing to say I’m suspended or subject to investigation or anything yet and it’s been 8 weeks. It’s just been radio silence. Plus the policy is that the chief nurse is the one who is supposed to authorise suspensions and she hasn’t as she knew nothing about me until I contacted her about 3 weeks ago.

I need to know my situation as that will impact my future job interviews / application as they do ask have you been suspended or fired from any previous positions.

You’re right I’m jaded with life at the minute! I had about 4 panic attacks yesterday and was sick as a dog with headaches in the evening. I am trying my best to plod along though and not just give up and walk away... it’s hard tbh. Xxx

  • Does that policy apply if you're bank rather than an employee?
From what you've said you're neither, just not being offered any shifts. Hopefully you will get an answer from the CN soon.
    - this is why applying to agencies would be a good start as they may be able to get a clear answer when applying for references.

I do appreciate how much this impacts your health. You're not the first person to say it, do try and hang on x

Thanks @Frith hopefully things will get better or when one door closes another one opens as they say!

Yes @MovingForwards I’m in limbo aren’t I, I don’t know if I’m suspended or just not being offered shifts. Nobody else seems to know either. I have got my original contract and it says the trust disciplinary procedure does apply to bank staff but I might not be being disciplined yet so it’s all a bit of guesswork on my part. They’ve said Monday I’ll know more now so we’ll see but I won’t hold my breath.

I’ve got the agency interview Tuesday anyway so fingers crossed I’ll be earning something soon and this MFW diary can get back to what it was supposed to be and not just me moaning about life! Xx
