    Congratulations 🎉
Stability and everything that goes with a permanent contract will make it so much easier for you.

The trades you know should know other trusted people. Never hand over all the cash, a bit of it is fine or order materials yourself. If you're totally stuck, it's worth posting in the DIY section, sometimes regulars do live nearby / same county and can recommend people.

Aww thankyou! Hopefully the job security will do me good! This is the final week of the tax year so I’m off as I’ve earnt my limit! 😊 got 2 shifts booked for next week but might up it to 3 for the extra bit of money.

It'll probably take a month or 2 for me to get on the permanent rota so upto now my shifts are booked until the end of April then when I’ve got my start date I’ll have to see what bank shifts I’ll be doing too. I am determined to keep the bank active for the weekly pay and also for the house stuff.

Luckily I asked for a 23 hour contract so the optional 3rd shift will take me upto the 34.5 basically full time pre breaks. I feel bad for the staff on full time contracts because they have a 4 shift week every 4 weeks supposedly but more often than not their weeks fall together so they’re doing 6 or 7 shifts in a row 🤯 x

Can you grab some more shifts for the extra money to keep you going until your first pay, that way if you don't feel like doing bank while doing your contract role, there's back up money.

The shifts expected, and being back to back, are horrendous, I do feel or those in medical practice.

I'm so pleased for you 🎉

Yeah I’ll be keeping up my at least one bank shift a week so the weekly pay will continue as normally. When I eventually get a monthly pay it’ll be like a nice bonus lol. The only thing I’m unsure of is how tax code works with bank and substantive roles. Last time I had a contract I didn’t do bank work.

I’ve rang a builder for a quote for my kitchen doors. Not sure between bifolds or sliding doors. I’m gonna see what sort of price they give me. They have good feedback on google and social media, they’re local and they have lots of pics of doing the same thing on similar houses to mine so at least when I get a quote I’ll have a ballpark figure to start from x

Use a salary calculator, search for two jobs salary calculator UK and fill it in. It will show you how much tax will come off your bank work as your substantive role will use all your personal tax allowance.

    Good luck with the quote.

Well just had my first quote for the bifolds doors £6000 🤦🏼‍♀️ You could have knocked me over with a feather 😂😂😂 I was mentally prepared for £4000 but not that much. I don’t think it’s worth spending that on this house. I might just keep it as it is and look at getting a better laid out kitchen.

im feeling quite deflated today. My nan doesn’t look well at all. I’ve called the Drs and they’re gonna call me at 4pm so I’ve gotta be there then. I think it’s a progression of dementia that hasn’t even been diagnosed yet but she has a skin cancer so I’m wondering if there’s anything else going on. I just feel really sad about it.

I am the grandaughter (1 of 11 grandchildren) then she has 5 kids. 4 of whom live within 5 minutes and there’s only me, my dad and my uncle that look after her. I feel like flipping on the rest of the selfish %#~~~###!!! They’ll be like pigs in !!!!!! if anything happens to her all circling for the cash. Grrrrr.

Sorry just needed a rant. Xxx

Shop around for a few more quotes or wait until things are more 'normal' then ask.

Sorry to hear about your nan, hopefully it's nothing a few tablets or medicine won't cure.

Vultures are like that unfortunately, you can't change them.

To be honest the quote was probably fair as it’s roughly £2k for the doors, £2k for the structural bits and £2k for the labour. I think I have big ideas that are not suited to the house or the area. I’d rather keep the layout as it is and get a nice new clean kitchen. After all I am a MFW for a reason! I don’t want to spend the next 10-20 years paying for stuff in the house. I just want it nice and livable.

yeah I’m hoping it’s another infection. I’m gonna pop down to her now for an hour x

  • Bi folds are gorgeous but so expensive, think its the structural aspe t that adds so much more. Is the space already there with a sliding door / opening doors? Or they need to knock part of the wall down? Its such a difficult toss up between cash outlay / looks nice / value to the house/ etc isnt it?!
