Pulling rank isn't good and only once have I said that to my OH, but it was to get a point across which would mess up a remortgage if we did what he tried to do. Aside from that it's always 'ours' and I always discuss changes to the interior / garden, ask for ideas and even ask him to pick things and order them.

It will get easier and when things have settled try and talk with him x

I had my a&e interview before. It lasted a while 7 minutes so I don’t know if that’s good or bad lol. I’ll hear tonight or tomorrow.

Just had to go and get a present for my best friends birthday and colour hairspray for the kids for mad hair day tomorrow. The school asked for donation of toiletries or cash for the food bank so I bought them a bottle of soap each. Not giving cash. So that was £25 I’d rather not have spent but can’t be a Scrooge lol.

Got my payslip for tomorrow. Think I’ll have £200 to put in the loft/house fund. Definitely not gonna overpay this week cus I wanna keep cash ready. He has agreed that the kitchen and bathroom are more urgent so I’m gonna look into getting them sorted first.

Oh that sounds tricky if he’s not really on board and you guys are arguing. Hope you get it all sorted.

It’s hard too if you the only breadwinner for a long time - I was a SAHM for 3.5y and I know that DH did feel a lot of pressure on him being the sole provider. Now your kids are getting older do you think your OH will be looking to rejoin the workforce?

Thanks @Bluegreen143 he was depressed for a long time so he looked after the kids when they were smaller and to be honest I wouldn’t be where I am career wise if he hadn’t helped with the kids. For the last 5 years he’s been doing handyman work and bits and bobs to keep himself in pocket money around me working but since covid everything has come to a stop so I can’t really blame him for that. And he is looking for proper work. It’s the not doing stuff in the house anymore that’s annoying me.

I’m going to start looking into trades people but I’m terrified of it all lol.

Hoped schools would have made it easier / cheaper for parents nowadays compared to when we were growing up.

Did you get chance to say anything more than hello at your interview? Fingers crossed, sometimes they're just a box ticking process, especially when you already work for them, or have done previously.

With trades all you can do is ask friends and family for recommendations and read as many reviews across various places.

Deffo it was never worth us both working with 3 kids as the childcare would have cost more than one wage but now they’re bigger I can go onto nights and him do days if he does manage to get a permanent job. It’s hard now though cus there are loads of people that have always worked who are looking for jobs so he’s got a slim chance having not worked for years.

My family are not well off at all so don’t really have tradespeople. Most of them are in council housing. I know a plumber and an electrician and dp knows a plasterer so that’s a start lol. My cousin paid £400 for a new front door when she bought her house last year, once she handed the money over she never seen them again so that’s what I’m most weary of.

No call off my interview. They did say they were interviewing until half 4 so it would likely be in the morning. I just answered 4 scenario based questions but that was it. No small talk as I’m no good at it lol. Xxx

  • Fingers crossed for you for the job!
So hard with OH not fully on board, hope he comes around. With trades people, I'd advise never to hand over cash or payment in advance (some might say its for materials etc but they should be able to get those themselves and charge you for them as part of the overall price). I've used Check a trade website and haven't had a bad experience yet, picked people with lots of good reviews etc. Also, don't just go for the cheapest quote....cheapest in short term doesn't mean good work or value long term!

I got my job offer ☺️ Just have to wait for HR to get in touch now. Hopefully they’re ok with it. They were half the problem in September but that should be resolved 🤞🏼

Check out my signature! I’m over £2000 saved! Buzzing! And my net worth gets less and less in the negative every week! It won’t last lol but it’s nice for now! X
