Location of the phase 3 solar farm announced. 1.2km SW of Pyworthy in Devon.

Looked on Maps and can see lots of panels already in that area.

And just when we'd got over the news that the next project is solar we now get the shock that it's a solar water park. Bizarre!!!

It does though for me feel ever so slighlty experimental.  Have all the issues been thought out?  Could there be delays greater than what is happening at Kirk Hill?  I think I will buy in to this but may be not to the amount I previously had in mind.

Maybe read further than the headline 😛
    4.7kwp PV split equally N and S 20° 2016.
    Givenergy AIO (2024)
    Seat Mii electric (2021).  MG4 Trophy (2024).
    1.2kw Ripple Kirk Hill. 0.6kw Derril Water.Whitelaw Bay 0.2kw
Vaillant aroTHERM plus 5kW ASHP (2025)
    Gas supply capped (2025)

  • It doesn't look very encouraging down in the south west as far as grid connections go. Lots of upgrade works required and even a new 400KVa line being required. NG mention in their video new connections waiting until 2036.....

Lets hope Ripple have already gone through the application process and have some idea on genuine dates. Something too ask on the webinar today.

As I mentioned, there's already several fields of panels in the area and there's also a substation very close by, in fact could be right next to Ripple's panels.

Hopefully this means there shouldn't be any major problems.

Yes I saw but that doesn't mean anything. The substation is just the easy part of the connection. The issue is the back end infrastructure being able to cope with the additional power flowing and that's where all the grid upgrades are needed. I can't post links yet but if you check out the post from 70sbudgie on page 70 that has the links to the videos where NG explain it. Worth a watch.

There wasn't anymore than the headline when I wrote this. However now I've seen the offer document I'm less impressed. The returns are nothing like as good as for Kirk Hill even with them tweaking (increasing!) the expected wholesale price.  If these numbers are overly conservative than in reality this may be ok but a 16 yr payback period is not looking very appetising.  The only thing that will keep me in is the fact that it's support the RE infrastructure.
    Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.
    Install 2: Sept 19, 600W SSE

Is the longer payback period reflective of the fact it's a 40 year project, so you will be getting a post-payback revenue stream for 24 years, compared to a total 25 year lifespan of wind assets (not sure what the payback period is for previous wind projects)?

It may have already been covered or is in the FAQ but I cant find it.

What happens (if anything) if you buy more shares than your annual usage (or your annual usage drops significantly after you buy the shares) as there doesn't seem to be any check to see if the number you have entered it correct? It says you can buy up to 10% more but thats still 10% on top of a 'made up' number?

I’ll look forward to looking over the figures when my offer comes through. We’re now planning an ASHP installation though so it’s likely to be a smaller investment than originally planned.

I think I will give it a miss, when we original reserved we automatically assumed it would be a wind farm, I am 67 this year, by the time it comes on line I will be at least 68 ?.

£2000 investment to be 1950 kWh with a very low return, I would be better off adding some solar panel and exporting on Octopus Flux
    12 x 370 Watt J A panels Solis 3.6 invertor. Solax AC invertor and 5.8 triple battery
  • I am going to give it a miss also, and save my money for when/if i can purchase extra shares in the wind farm.
