For most people, particularly at the present time of higher interest rates, you are more likely to exceed the tax-free limit on your savings income than on your dividend income.  I think that having dividends would minimise the tax impact.
Well that's a decision for the government as they will have dictated the scheme rules.     However, whilst yes, more likely to exceed the tax free limit is true, currently you'll get something around 3% interest on savings.   A basic rate tax payer would therefore need around £30,000 savings at this rate to run out of tax-free savings income.  In addition it is important to note that the first slice of return each year (equivalent to 5% of the original investment) is not taxed but considered a return of the original investment.    According to Ripple's figures for Kirk Hill someone investing £1,695 should normally expect a turn of around £125 a year of which around £40 would be taxable. Hence a potential  tax bill of £16 to a basic rate payer who has run out of tax free allowance. I don't think these figures should create any concern for most.

The thing that puts me off Ripple is their desire to do everything unconventionally.  They could issue shares like a regular company and then you ought to be able to sell those shares if you wanted out.  They could issue dividends like a regular company and you could use those to help pay your electricity bill but you wouldn't be tied to one particular supplier.  I'm sure in both cases they have their reasons but I'm still put off.
This is one of the main attractions for me! I am not convinced the status quo is working, so I am interested in "industry disruptors". However, I do not have sufficient wealth to be careless, so I still approach my (limited) investments with a pretty conservative risk attitude.

I have invested in both the Kirk Hill co op and Ripple itself. I invested more in Kirk Hill as it feels more tangible to me and the returns are clearer. I also want to support Ripple to facilitate more generation co ops, but feel that it is a less tangible output, therefore moderated my investment accordingly.

I don't feel quite the same way about solar farms as I do wind farms, therefore will again moderate my investment in project 3 accordingly.

I got my offer of additional Kirk Hill shares today.  I was number 78 on the waiting list.  Has anyone else succeeded  in getting extra?

I got an email today to say I could get the extra I asked for from the waiting list.  The invoice has the reference 'waiting list 078' on it so I presume that's where is was on the list.

I didn't get any either. Apparently there are 1300 still on the wait list.

I thought I'd been quite quick to sign up to the wait list - obviously not quick enough!

And just when we'd got over the news that the next project is solar we now get the shock that it's a solar water park. Bizarre!!!

It does though for me feel ever so slighlty experimental.  Have all the issues been thought out?  Could there be delays greater than what is happening at Kirk Hill?  I think I will buy in to this but may be not to the amount I previously had in mind.
