So, I have £20k in the bank from all from refunds. A very different position from the one I was in a few years back. I cannot thank this site enough for all the help and support, if it wasn't for this I would have never even thought about challenging the pay day loans !

wow, that is brilliant outcome for you!! Well done!!

I am just starting the process of trying to get money back from Sunny and Wonga. Not quite due as much as you but i've calculated around £2.5k-£3k from each.

I was wondering, you mentioned Wonga had to go to the Ombudsman, did they completely reject your initial complaint or did they offer you a small amount?

Its just that I made my complaints 8th May, not heard back from Sunny yet (apart from acknowledging my complaint) but Wonga responded within 3 weeks rejecting my complaint.

Intrigued to know if the Ombudsman found in your favour if Wonga rejected it completely.

I Immediately reported them to ombudsman and have just sent of copies of my bank statements, credit report etc today so the ball is rolling with them.

Also, I see from the money you got back you had some smaller payouts from companies.
Were these companies where you only took 2 or 3 loans from them? Reason I ask is, I took out a 6 month installment loan with Lending stream and they then offered me another one after 3 months as I had made payments on time. I took this but then after 2 months entered a DMP. Haven't complained to them but wondered if it is worth it?
  • Know this thread is for Payday loans but has anyone had or heard of any success claiming against Credit Card companies who have actively informed you that you can increase your limit.

Or 118 loans who offered me a top up loan as I had made on time payments for 12 months?

My credit report must have been awful at these points!

Have now got myself on the straight and narrow with a DMP but am hoping any pay day loan refunds can go towards reducing the time it will take to get this paid off. And if I could include 118 and the credit cards then that would reduce it even more!!
  • How long did quick quid take from your sending your initial email
  • Hi....totally new to the thread and catching up with everything. Is there a template email/letter at all to send payday loan companies? I've had a few over the years, always paid back and on time but due to a cut in wage I was desperate (as we sometimes are in life, slowly but surely learning!). Currently saving for house deposit but know these payday loans are going to go against me. Making necessary steps to build up my credit score and I'm sitting on 'Good' for now.

Also, to the people who got refunds- a massive WELL DONE! Here's hoping that we can learn from our mistakes and start to make sensible steps with money.
  • I have had some positive news!

The adjudicator has upheld my complaint to Quickquid and recommended that they refund all interest and charges. I don't know if Quickquid will agree but as my repayment was more than half my salary and I had many consecutive loans I can't see an ombudsman disagreeing. The longer it takes the more the 8% interest will be.

The adjudicator also saw that I had another case in with 247moneybox so has agreed to take that on.

A different adjudicator didn’t uphold my complaint with H&T. They are my smallest so I am not as fussed but have asked for an ombudsman review.

My claim with Wonga is with the jurisdictions team.

Peachy and Mr Lender made me cash offers which I accepted as I needed money quickly (although I could probably have got more)

I am in no way in a good financial state now and am struggling with keeping on top of things, despite the fact I earn a good salary - due to past payday loan use but I feel like I have turned a corner. I will never ever take out a payday loan again. I won't be able to get credit for a few years so I will have to live within my means which will be a good lesson.

I am determined to be a homeowner one day
  • Hi everyone, what a wonderful thread. I must be up there with the worst offenders when it comes to payday loans. I do take some responsibility for the mess I got myself in, however there is no doubt these companies preyed upon the weak and knew exactly what they were doing.

Back in 2006 I was already in a world of pain debt wise, then 10 years of payday loan hell added to the misery.

I've just submitted complaints to 13 companies, and reading this thread gives me hope of a better future. I'm currently 2k away from being debt free, but it's been a long road. This thread is the light at the end of the tunnel for me. I may be waiting a long time to see this through but I'm in a semi comfortable position now financially, so I have time on my side.

I didn't request statements of account but instead went straight to the complaint letter template from the debt camel website. I honestly have no idea what sort of amounts I'm looking at so I may have jumped the gun there, but wonga for example I know I payed interest of £150-300 per month at least 10 months of the year for 8 years. QQ was as bad if not worse. I'll wait and see how they respond and then request statements. It's scary to think back at how bad it was.

I just hope this goes well for myself and for everyone else that has active complaints. So, so happy for everyone that has been successful. It feels like karma!!

I'll provide updates as I get them.

    Onwards and upwards everyone x

So I am in the process of contacting the payday lenders I remember having loans with, as I moved around banks can anyone tell me the best way to find out who I had all my loans with, which credit report will show this? Thanks
  • I submitted complaints to 8 companies and have so far had some differing responses.

Wonga - an offer of just under £3k (which I calculated at less than £2k so I have accepted this on Friday)
Lending Stream - they continue to send me the same response which doesn't actually respond to any of my queries. This will be passed to the ombudsman soon as they haven't had the full 8 weeks yet.
Mr Lender - I have an outstanding balance which they have reduced from over £400 to around £80 which I am happy with
247 - outstanding balance of £250 has been written off which I am happy with
Uncle Buck, PDUK, Sunny and Different Money have not yet responded.
  • Can I ask did you have to go back and forth with wonga? I have had a number of loans from them so I'm hopeful they agree that it was not affordable at any point to lend to me, also how long did you find they took to respond? Xx
