Day 25 -
Well, I had a reply from Wonga yesterday and.... they have rejected my claim.
A bit annoyed with their response as they said that they could see no evidence that I;
• continued to borrow over an extended period of time,
• took out a further loan immediately after repayment,
• borrowed high loan amounts when compared to your stated income.
Can't believe the first two points as I had 38 loans with them over a 3 year period. A couple of loans were paid off and then taken out again on the same day with others being taken out around 10 days later.
Was really hoping that they would have at least made an offer to me. Certainly wasn't expecting a full on rejection.
Have now submitted my claim to FOS and will join the queue. Hopefully they will find in my favour.
Suppose the only plus point is that Wonga only took just over 3 weeks to respond rather than the usual 8 weeks other people report.`
Now just waiting for Sunny's response (they still have over 4 weeks) but not too optimistic following Wonga's reply.0 -
Complaint still ongoing! It's been 12 months now. I spoke to the ombudsman last week to be told it still hasn't been assigned to an actual person....the adjudicator passed my case over to them in October last year! So, so frustrating!
Yeah I get the impression the FOS are just slow.
A week waiting here for the wretched first form to arrive.
This is what I worry about, is it worth it.
Just seems to me certain companies get their backside protected.0 -
Day 25 -

See #2619 if it's true. Even as a ex customer of good old Sunny's who recently had to read "..we sadly don't uphold your complaint"... It had to be the best line of the letter as the rest of it didn't provide answers over 7 weeks later when they are seen to say yet another thing on their own review page to the issues I'd tried to get addressed. A week later I'm back to being ignored when I just want my account closed down and not see their mailing list emails which can't just be unsubscribed from, if anything.
Don't give up hope. Irresponsible lending appears to be the only key word.
From the Ombudsman decisions page I don't really understand why Wonga had like 5 complaints when you compare to others. There's another lender what even is now closed down with just 2 pages whereas again some others are in excess of like 4.0 -
Hi there, love the help and advice on this sight! I've used it to start the refund request process with several payday loan companies and am starting to see some success!
Last week I had a response from the FOS and they have agreed that some of my loans with Wonga and Lending Stream shouldn't have been given to me. They have now issued their findings to both companies and the date they have to respond by is 8th June but apparently, if they haven't responded by then, it has to be escalated to the Ombudsman? Does anybody know if this is likely to happen? Or have an idea of timescale from
This point to receiving my refund?
Thank you!
Hi,
I have logged my complaint with FO after rejecting an offer.
How long did it take for you to get a decision from FO?
Thanks0 -
Not posted for a while on here but have been lurking in the background
Have had some success
Square today - wrote of entire loan, although i never complained to these and no idea why they did, honestly would avoid this company, have had so many problems with them, emails constantly ignored, wrong amounts debited from my account, honestly nightmare. They then randomly sent me a letter stating that they had wrote of my loan but would not tell me why , i have emailed asking for an explanation but nothing received back and the loan is apparently going to be removed from my credit file.
Lending Stream - Wrote of 2 x small loans of £87 and £73 and also reduced a £350 loan to £150, happy with this. I could have gone further with this however i am impatient and i thought i would just accept this.
Safety net credit - Had a small loan with these and at the time of taking it out i had a gambling addiction and depression i wrote to them stating they had seen my transactions and the fact the day after i was paid i had no money left and they should have seen this, they agreed and have offered to refund £111.62, again i could have taken this further but i had already paid this of so thought i would just accept
Wonga - Rejected my claim stating that my loan was older than 6 years, therefore didnt have a record of this, this is a lie, infact i have emails from a while back where a £400 loan went up to £1979 and at the time i was on about £1100 a month... So this one i am going to take further. The email i received was very standard and could tell they did not even look at it properly and they were quite rude.
Satsuma Loans - only complained to these a few days ago but will wait and see. They have since asked for evidence has to why i am making a complaint, which i have sent of all relevant info. Dont expect anything from these but who knows.
Paydayuk - I had a loan with these in 2010 and at the time i went to CCCS, i thought this was paid in full as not received any contact, telephone, email, letter nothing, i complained about irresponsible lending back in 2014 and they then tell me i had a balance of £250 which needed to be paid, long story but i kept emailing them offering to repay but emails were constantly ignored, i then said it should have been statue barred at this point however i would still pay as i did not want this hassle , again emails ignored, i then went to the ombudsman and they said there was nothing they could do, although they agree PAYDAYUK should have responded to me etc, anyway finally after 2 years i have managed to set a payment plan with these, slightly annoyed with this one as i have been trying to contact them and i was constantly ignored, they still never chased me for this, and they said it was my responsibility , which i do get, however if i did not know this stille existed why would i contact them and surely if someone hasnt paid they would contact me? Anyway done arguing with these so i am now on a repayment plan to pay it of..
One question i do have is with safety net credit, has anyone had a refund from these, if so how long did it take? Only asking because they seem to be dragging there heels when refunding it and telling me it could take up to 7 working days, and in the past from other companies it has been in my account the same day or a day or 2 after
Anyway good luck to everyone trying to reclaim
Finally feel that i can get some sort of life back and will never make this stupid mistake again0 -
I had a small loan from satsuma after I had entered a dmp. As it was only one loan I sent a complaint email and didn't expect them to respond, or agree. But I had a final response and a cheque in the post 2 weeks later.
I gave them a copy of my dmp summary and Experian report which seemed to be enough to conclude they shouldn't have leant it to me. It was fully paid back and this was a bonus, they didn't say anything about removing from credit file, but they have put that it is an official redress so fingers crossed.
Just waiting on a chq from LS now, can't believe it's only taken 9 months to get responses from 6 companies, all in my favour. Thanks for the support everyone!0 -
Hello,
Since university (8 years ago) I have used payday loans at first i did not fully understand how they worked being so young and once I realised how they work I was stuck in a downwards spiral, borrowing off a friend to ensure the debt was cleared.
After doing my readings on lots of articles and threads about claiming back money from payday loan companies I went through my bank statements and am shocked at a) the amounts and b) the frequency of borrowing.
Today I wrote to:
Payday Express - I didn't get a statement of all the loans that I took out but provided bank statements from 12/2010 to 05/2012 showing my payments to them. I thought I'd just get my complaint in as it doesn't look like it will respond anytime soon to a statement of account request!
QuickQuid - I'm a serial borrower from this company from 05/2011 onwards. Again I've provided bank statements showing my payments to the company.
Wonga - loans from 09/2012 to 11/2014. More payments showing the frequency of my borrowing.
I am fully expecting to be referring all three complaints to the Ombudsman! I do have a few questions:
1) does anybody have any success in claiming from companies for loans in 2016?
2) has anybody tried to make a claim for a loan from 118? I got a loan from 118. Due to a family emergency I contacted the company and explained I could not afford my payments so I am currently on a payment plan. The amount of interest I'm being charged is sickening.
I'm in a sticky situation with debts and trying to clear them all in the next 12 months so I can rebuild my credit and get my house!
Just thought I would ask people in regards to 118. I will update my complaints on here as and when x0 -

Sacha28 - to give you an idea - I first complained about Wonga in May last year, it was after ages assigned to an Ombudsman in December. I have been chasing them to. However, always been dealing via email, on Thursday I had a letter through the post. Ombudsman upheld my complaint, Wonga contacted me by email Friday for account details and wham ! Money in account today.
So, you shouldn't have to wait much longer as I think your timescales are on a par with mine :-)0 -
So 13 months and my journey is over ! I never thought I would see a penny of the money I lost in my constant cycle of borrowing. It was a pretty dark few years for me financially, I by some miracle managed to just keep my head above the water with borrowing from multiple lenders. That was all in 2010 and as I recovered financially, by 2014 I was back on track. I learnt a very valuable lesson in those 4 years and never wanted to return to those times. Never wanted to calculate what I threw away to these cowboys and just got on with life. Then I stumbled across this and the debt camel site. It's taken 13 months but I have percivered, today I had my final complaint settled and its full closure for me. I managed to claim back nearly all the monies spent, and with interest this I reckon puts me back to never taking any loans out at all.
Payday Express. £900
Payday UK. £3200. FOS
Txt Loans. £500
Quick Quid. £6000. FOS
Wonga. £9600. FOS Ombudsman review
MyJar. £550
So, I have £20k in the bank from all from refunds. A very different position from the one I was in a few years back. I cannot thank this site enough for all the help and support, if it wasn't for this I would have never even thought about challenging the pay day loans !
My advice - percivere, be patient, don't accept anything too much less than you believe you are owed (QQ offered me £500 then £2000 and the Ombudsman ordered them to pay £6000, I nearly accepted the £2k!)
Thank you Thank you Thank you all from the bottom of my heart !!0 -
That's some refund that !!
