    Hi lantanna,

Would you mind me asking what you asked for from Halifax? Was it all the monthly fees or overdraft charges etc. as well. I'm with Natwest and was thinking about contacting them about my account.

    Thanks.

Hi, no not at all. I completed a short form online and said that I had been given a packaged bank account costing £15 per month and that I didn't think that it was affordable for me. I said that I wasn't aware that a free account existed. Which was true at the time I was given the choice of two different fee paying ones.

They rang back a day later and asked me for more information, I said all of the types of account were not explained to me and I was only told about the fee ones and looking at the state of my bank account it would have been obvious that they weren't suitable for me.

When she rang me back this morning she just said it was clear from my accounts that I was not suitable for a fee account and there were notes on there when I had rang up to talk about my overdraft etc that I was struggling. I never mentioned the charges because the last time I spoke to them about it they said they only had to go back 6 months and refunded me them then. But she said they had added all the fees in too and the 8 %. So I am well happy.

Have a look on debt camel there is more information there about packaged bank accounts that will help you.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Email from Myjar, after offering me £128 they have now decided after me turning it down that they are having difficulty getting to the bottom of my complaint and have asked until the 30th of Sept to sort it out. Well at least they can communicate unlike some!!!
  • All,

I thought I would update you all too!

So Wonga originally, told me that they would take 8 weeks for my complaint and then they extended it for another three weeks.

Most people thought that it was a delaying tactic which I did too. The good news is that they came back to me yesterday and offered me £2296.11! I am super super happy about that and will use the money to pay for a ring for the soon to be mrs and pay off a credit card. I am happy with this amount since I paid off everything I owed them.

Thanks everyone, if I had never read this thread I wouldn’t be in this position now.

The reasons they had for upholding my complaint were.

Before approving a loan, we carry out a credit reference agency check. This information is available to us from CallCredit and Experian and can be accessed instantly by us when we receive a loan application. When you applied, we combined that data with the personal data you provided to us including salary, employment, marital status, dependents, home ownership status, motor owner status amongst other information, and we also considered your repayment history. All of this information was entered into our underwriting system so we could carry out an assessment of affordability. You achieved an acceptable underwriting score and the loans were approved on that basis.

In investigating this complaint, we have considered the question of affordability of the loans based on information available to us at the time of application, including:

    • frequency of borrowing;
    • personal circumstances;
    • amount initially borrowed and any additional borrowing against stated income; and
    • any other factors which indicated financial difficulties, such as arrears and repayment arrangements.

Having carefully reviewed all the records for the loans you took, while we have concluded your loans were affordable, we do not think that we should have continued to lend after the loan (xxxxx you took on xxxx. Although you managed to repay the loan in full, it had gone into arrears. We approved three more loans after that loan. You also managed to repay them in full, however, two of them also went into arrears. We feel we should have asked more questions regarding your financial position before further loans were agreed. We will, therefore, redress the three loans listed in the table below
  • Hi all,

New to this forum but just want to thank the original poster.

Little bit about my situation. I had 29 loans with wonga over a three year period. The last loan with them they actually wrote off themselves without me having to do anything (circa 2014). Since I paid off all my loans recently I decided to check back and see how many other loans were unaffordable.

I complained to Wonga who eventually accepted that 5 loans were unaffordable and offered me £1600. I rejected this offer and took it to the ombudsman and the adjudicator found that 24 loans were unaffordable and she passed this on to the ombudsman for final review and told me it would take around two weeks. It's been over two weeks so I emailed her yesterday and she emailed this back to me this morning:

    Thanks for your email below.

I appreciate it’s been two weeks but it appears that we’re currently reviewing our position on how we take into account loans that have been written off under a redress scheme. Your last loan was written off under the Financial Conduct Authority’s redress scheme, so we’re currently in discussions with them on this point. This is why it’s taking longer than usual for your case to be assigned to an ombudsman.

Unfortunately, we can’t say how long these discussions will take but we’re doing everything we can to move these types of cases forward. As soon as I’ve a further update, I’ll contact you and let you know.

Has anyone else had a similar message to this from the Ombudsman? And if so, does anyone know how long this should take?

I should be in line to get around £5/6k back and was happy to wait but now I think I've made the wrong choice not accepting the offer from Wonga :/

    Hi all.

I was on the Companies House website just now and thought out of interest I'd have a look at WDFC Ltd which is the company name for Wonga.

Turns out during 2015 they had the following number of employees including executive directors:

    Customer service - 47
    Technology - 57
    Administration - 9

    Total - 113

Doesn't seem many for a company that size and might suggest why they seem to want 14 weeks rather than 8 to deal with complaints!

    Hi bennzy.

My complaint is nearly at the 8 week mark with Wonga so I'm not sure of the circumstances regarding the Ombudsman but I also had a loan that was written off as part of the redress scheme.

I doubt you've done anything wrong by not accepting - £5k is a nice amount to wait a bit longer for!

    Hi all
Forgot to update- Payday Express has been upheld by the adjudicator- he ruled the last two loans were unaffordable as they had been rolled over so many times and he's ordered repayment of charges plus interest. He was very scathing towards them- I'm very surprised but pleased.
This was a difficult one for me as many of them date from around the time I was first unwell but the adjudicator was very nice and although the whole thing took some time to investigate it was worth it in the end :) just Money Shop left now, just awaiting that to be assigned to an adjudicator.

  • After having a long think, I decided to accept the offer from QQ - my adjudicator has stated that payment is usually made within 4 weeks.

I have already chased QQ for payment as I don't see why it should take them so long, If I applied for a loan, they pay within 15 minutes.

I was never expecting £912 from QQ in all honesty, my biggest complaint is against Wonga whom i borrowed 4 x the amount from, fimgers crossed my adjudicator can work her magic on this one too!

I'll let you guys know how long it takes QQ to pay out..............

QQ chased me for bank details, soon as I gave them the details they have ignored me again, they love playing games and being in control. All the evidence is being forwarded to the FOS and the FCA.
