Interesting email received -

====================

We are writing to inform you that TUI and NewDay will be ending their partnership, and the credit card program will no longer be offered from 14 September 2020. After this date you will not be able to use your TUI Credit Card, including to make purchases or withdraw cash.

We wanted to reassure you that you can continue to use your TUI Credit Card as usual until the closure date, which we hope will enable you to make plans for an alternative credit card, should you wish.

What does this mean for my account?
  • You can continue to use your card as usual until 14 September 2020.
  • Thereafter your account will be closed and the card will be blocked from further use, and you should continue make your monthly payments until the balance is paid in full.
  • This will not affect your credit rating as long as you continue to keep your account in good order.
  • Any refund rights you may have in respect of your purchases are unaffected.

What happens to my Rewards Points?
  • You will earn reward points on purchases until the 14 September
If you have 2500 or more Rewards Points, these will be redeemed as usual if you make an eligible TUI/First Choice purchase until 14 September; after this date you will not be able to redeem these points.
  • Remember, to keep your account in good order, it’s important to pay at least your contractual minimum payment on time each month and not to exceed your credit limit. If you have any questions with regards to your account, please see the FAQs below or call customer service.
We understand this news may be disappointing and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,
Francesca Rea
Director of Customer Service

Please cancel any recurring payments collected from your TUI Credit Card account for things such as insurance or subscriptions with the supplier and make alternative payment arrangements with them.

You will continue to earn Loyalty Points on your card until the product closure date of 14 September 2020. If you have 2500 or more Loyalty Points, these can be redeemed of any eligible TUI/First Choice purchase until the closure date; thereafter your points will no longer be able to be redeemed.

What happens if I need to return a purchase I made on my card?

Any purchases made on or before 14 September 2020 can be refunded on to your card in line with the normal returns policy.

Will I continue to receive a monthly statement?

Whilst you have an outstanding balance on your account, you will continue to receive statements and letters regarding the management of your account, until such time that the balance is paid in full.

I am registered to manage my account on the Online Account Manager. Will I still be able to do this?

  • Looks like I'll lose my points as I won't be booking anything before September 14th, why can't they just credit your account when they close, after all, you've earned it?
  • i have 7000 points and there is no way I will be using them this year. My only reason for having this card was for the travel points.

I have also received this notification and think it is a shame the credit card is closing.  We used to put most of our household bills and grocery shopping on the card and then increase points booking two TUI holidays a year.

I don't think the letter from NewDay is particularly clear, or their closure of the scheme generous.  I am sure many will have <2500 points on the account as the card closes on 14 September and it seems a little unfair that no payment made to customers.  A small gesture voucher from TUI for £15-£25 say would be nice.

    My letter states:
Will I still be eligible to earn and redeem Loyalty Points on my TUI Card?
"You will continue to earn Loyalty Points on your card until the product closure date of 14 September 2020. If you have 2500 or more Loyalty Points, these can be redeemed of [sic] any eligible TUI/First Choice purchase until the closure date; thereafter your points will no longer be able to be redeemed".

The scheme rewarded spend and points were doubled if you purchased TUI/First Choice holidays or on TUI inflight sales. There was never a discount off a TUI holiday that I knew of once the account was open, instead cashback was credited to your account when your balance reached 2500 points.  Their FAQ answer is therefore somewhat incorrect as there is no redemption on a TUI/First Choice purchase, rather that you need to hit 2500+ points by 14 September to gain the cash reward payment.

1 point gained for every £1 spend on TUI/First Choice products
1 point gained for every £2 spend elsewhere
    2500 points = £25 Cashback

@carolecaps - with 7000 points you should receive £50 cash back on your next billing statement then (hopefully) just another 50 points spend before closure date to get another £25 cashback.
  • I have over 9,000 tui points, but will lose them if I don't book something with Tui before 14th September! Been saving them for next year but looks like I'll lose them! To say I'm not happy is an understatement! I think my holiday bookings will now be taken elsewhere! Tui should be honouring our points, especially at a time like this! 🤬🤬

Part and parcel of taking a credit card whose rewards are tied to a brand/product/service rather than raw cashback.
  • I too have been saving my points putting all my household bills on the credit card and paying off at the end of the month.  Given that TUI have put their prices up a lot for next year looks like I will lose my points.  When you reach 2500 you can then claim the points through booking a holiday or flight you are not then rewarded with a cash reward off of the balance of your account.  You pay for the deposit or holiday in full and then whatever points you have then get deducted from your account.  Any points that people have earned when the account is to be closed in September should be able to be used for longer than the day mentioned - so going to lose out on £35 worth of points - wish I had used my other credit cards now - so much for 'loyalty'.

Is there really any need for your ridiculous posts when all they do is belittle or condescend people. You know something, you're no different to anyone else here. You aren't better than the next poster!

It's pretty clear and obvious that the poster referred to loyalty by using the card which offered free points that convert into vouchers.  Anyone with a half a brain can see that!

This affects me to. Both Newday and Tui are showing that they don't value their customers with this action and it won't be forgotten.

Exactly! I don't blame NewDay. It's clearly a TUI thing? They're the client so it's most probably their decision (or ND are annoyed that they've had to issue millions of refunds)!

Amazon card & Debenhams both reward me well so I'm not necessarily slating NewDay - I blame TUI.
